  • Discover the secret attics in this Renaissance chateau, which for hundreds of years was lived in by French counts and marquis!
I'm delighted to welcome you into my home, and to take you on a personal tour. There's so much to see that I've had to split the tour into several parts. This week I'll show you the hidden attics, which aren't usually seen. Discover the old servants rooms that haven't been touched in over a hundred years, see the dust-covered antique furniture left by previous generations, and travel back in time as we step into the chateau's original defensive ring, and see the openings from which boiling oil could have been poured onto attackers. Follow me to the attics!!!
It's the moment we've all been waiting for - a full tour of the Chateau de Lalande! I'm sorry that it's taken me so long to do this, but I never felt that the chateau was fully ready! But I've realised that I'll always feel that way, and part of the beauty of a historic home like this is that it's always a work in progress. Restoring Lalande is the creative passion of my life ❤️🏰❤️
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
This weekly vlog follows the adventures of chatelaine Stephanie in her French 16th century home, the Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. As you can imagine, your help means more to me now than ever. Because of you, I'll be able to keep living at Lalande and making videos even though our chambres d'hotes income has been decimated by the coronavirus. I’ve been overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity, On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

The chapel tile you mention at 13:12 that's blocking a hole in the attic; I suspect that to be the altar stone for the chapel altar? It would have slotted into the middle-front of the altar as a separate piece, that would have been consecrated by the bishop at the time. The 5 crosses on the stone resemble the 5 wounds of Christ, they usually have a relic inside of them but not always. They are made with marble so it maybe quite a weight! Absolutely love your videos, I aspire to own a chateau like yours one day! :) This is my favourite video so far!

I have a bit of concern about the beautiful 19th century green wallpaper, since arsenic was widely used to produce green color in wallpaper, during that period. You probably know more than I do about this, with your extensive and ever growing body of knowledge about history, but I thought I’d mention it, just in case.
What a wonderful idea of Michaels, to reproduce the missing portions of the wallpaper! The room will be stunning!
How hauntingly beautiful the attics are, Stephanie! I look forward to seeing how these rooms will look, once you have worked your magic on them! 💕
The bed in the green attic room is so very beautiful!
I loooove the attic bath room! And the Rapunzel in the tower moment! How adorable!
Yes, more tours, please! That will be such fun!

I'm watching this in 2023 January. So interesting to see how much progress Stephanie and the LaLanders have made restoring the Chateau. Stephanie's bed crown with canopy was all hung. Her room is a beautiful shade of rosy pink with gold trim. Her bedding is that gorgeous pink toille. And the creche of the Nativity is not only been restored but has grown into the most gorgeous nativity scene with pieces acquired and added from Italy and Germany. I'm new to the channel. Only discovering it December of 2022 during their daily advent series. So it's fun to go back in time and watch the beginnings of the LaLand internet adventure.

These servants rooms are possibly my favourite rooms at the chateau. I hope that when you do restore them that you decide to keep them as close to the original as you can - maybe these could be the true museum parts of the chateau!

Stephanie, your documentaries about your castle La Lande are - in my opinion- simply the best of your vlogs.
They are informative and show your knowledge of history of art, your affection and respect for the European culture, which for us Europeans is the most relevant one, logically
I admire your stamina, because it is really a big project to renovate a castle.
Everyone who is sighing under the burden of a renovation in his/her house should watch your reports and feel relieved at the comparably ridiculous size of their own house and therefore just small amount of work...
I hope you are proceeding well in the course of time and do not lose your good humour and strength.
Looking forward to many episodes to come.. :--)) and... Thank you.

Hundreds of tiny details...that is what is so satisfying about your vlogs Stephanie. I'm loving these virtual tours and all the stories you havd about the history of your Chateau. All the past occupiers are nodding in agreement as they know how much you cherish Lalande. 👻👻👻👻

Hello Stephanie! I have been watching every single vlog of yours on my days off work. You are a source of absolute positive energy in these difficult times. I have been travelling around Europe (at least before the lockdown) and have fallen in love with France. Seeing your beautiful home has further got me captivated. I love castles and chateaus ans I am so glad to find somebody who shares the same love for fairytale-in-reality 😁

Hello Stephanie here I am once again. I’ve been enjoying all your vlogs. I’m watching a rerun of your past videos and also your mixed videos. Reminds me of the good old times just a year ago. Can you imagine when you were in Venice you were talking about the plagues my goodness a year later can’t imagine. You certainly do you live life to the fullest that’s wonderful! You have so much to be thankful four, your wonderful friends and family and all your volunteers from all over the world. they are so great. These volunteers really put their heart and soul in everything they do at the chateaux. It is wonderful to watch them. They have truly added to your chateaux. I can tell by watching how much you appreciate them and really love them and they feel this they feel part of your family so great. Thank you for encouraging Michael to do a blog I’m enjoying them so much. Can you mention on your vlog how to access patrons page,, a link where it can be easily accessible when one decides to be a patron.By the way your bedroom that fuchsia pink ribbon does not go there every time I see it I say oh my. It looks like you got rid of it what would you like to see there and how many meters do you need ? I know you would like something to match your panelling and that goes with your gray walls. Such a joy to watch you and Michael interacting on his blog I love it! He is so talented so are you.I really like the comments regarding your tour of the attic regarding the wallpaper and the stone marble from the chapel in your attic that’s very interesting have you looked into that? It shows how much you love that châteaux. Maybe in a previous life you where the owner of that chateaux . You do resemble her That’s the first thing I thought when I saw that cushion arrive in that big box of all the cushions last year. By the way what is Marie doing. Where is she living? I gather she’s living in England? I really enjoyed watching Michael’s apartment and your moms apartment they are beautifully done what a nice space . You live a magical life whether you know it or not. Do you know it. Much love from Vancouver British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦the weather is beautiful here too just like France. I have the same plant you have the Camelia the same colour they’re so beautiful. Have a blessed, wonderful, and joyful week! looking forward to your next blog on Tuesday. Much love🥰🌈

Ah, yes! Touching old stone walls and knowing that some hand has carved those blocs, and that you are one in a line of many, many hands that have touched them during the centuries! I am an archaeologist and I've allways loved the thrill and the humbling and moving feeling of directly touching history on excavations and when handling artefacts. It is to me the most direct contact that I can make with people and times long gone! Love these looks into the untouched and more 'utilitarian' spaces of the chateau, thank you for the tour again!!

What an amazing contribution to the château would be if Amoury were to source the wood from Lalande’s own forests and hand craft some wooden shelving and create a Library for Lalande!!
Imagine a woodworking workshop for a couple volunteers interested in wood and the need for storage of Stephanie’s ever growing library and book collections
Also some bespoke display cabinets for all of the treasures from Cadeaux!!😊❤️

Its incredible how the rooms just go on and on. think you have a great eye for décor. So much warmth.Have been wanting to make a toile de jouy skirt for so long. This is a bit of inspiration. Like the pattern mixing, which is what I had in mind. Thanks again.
