Here's the problem, because Simms isn't necessarily wrong here--if anything, he didn't go far enough in discussing Belichick and the NFL. The question about hiring him is this--are you getting the coach who dominated the NFL for 20 years with Brady...or are you getting the coach who, in the ten years without Brady (The Cleveland Years; 2000; 2020-2023) is 23 games under .500??!? I'm one of these people who honestly believe that the arc of Belichick's coaching career really changed because the Jets' Mo Lewis ruptured Drew Bledsoe's spleen in 2001, and made him play Brady. This has, and may always be, the biggest hole in Belichick's legacy--was it HIM, or was it BRADY??!? Again, ten years without one certain player is not a small sample size. When one takes the whole of Belichick's time in New England into account--Spygate, Deflategate, the stories about how he would openly diminish both Kraft and Brady...Simms has legitimate points if one takes into account the full history.

I think Belichick will flame out quicker than Saban did in the NFL. College is not the NFL and vice versa. He does not have the personality or coaching style to run a successful college football program. Winning at the college level is about more than just Xs and Os. He will have to deal with boosters, portal threats, NIL, agents, immature high school kids and their helicopter parents, and etc. Don't know why he made this jump when even guys like Saban and Urban didn't want to deal with what college football is becoming. I could be wrong, but this seems like a disaster in the making. Very few coaches have success at both levels. Doesnt mean they're bad coaches, but some coaches are just better at coaching in college i.e. Saban, others like Belichick in the NFL, and a very small minority at both levels i.e. Pete Carroll.

It's actually above .500 when he is the GM of his teams, whether in Cleveland when he picked Testaverde, etc. That's the key. When he molds the QB he chooses, he's above .500. When someone else is doing the choosing (Kosar, Covid with Newton, Mac Jones, etc,), it doesn't go as well. It's why BB wanted full power when he came to NE. He saw how meddling owners spit out good coaches. Brady, Cassel and JimmyG were the only QBs he worked daily with. That is a FACT. Cassel was in season, which was one of the more brilliant coaching jobs in the last 25 years. Cassel hadn't played a game since high school in 1999. He BUILT Tom Brady. Built him. The flabby 6th rder no one wanted, was his creation. You were in diapers when BB promoted Brady, protected him and drafted 6 other Hall of Famers around Brady.

When you look at the franchises in the NFL and who the owners are, up to 75% of those franchises absolutely blow. It makes me laugh they think Raheem Morris and Dan Quinn, etc, are somehow better stewards of a franchise. That's literally why those kinds of franchises have more or less sucked for decades. They're a joke. The NFL has owners who have never worked a day in their life. They're an NFL version of Spaulding Smails walking around as know it alls because they were born into money. BB hates people like that. BB just got himself fired to get away from Kraft, an owner who tried to control the end of Brady's time in NE, stepping all over BB's plans to transition away from the Brady Era. Most NFL owners behave that way. Kraft never did until 2019 when he blocked the trading of Brady for a bevy of picks that would have provided a rebuild and transition. That Jerry Jones style of ownership is not what BB would want. The Giants would likely be the lone NFL team he would consider at this point. It was essentially his dream job, but even still, it was reported he wanted a lower profile NFL job because he obviously can't stand the media trying to make it about themselves as opposed to covering the sport for thre fans. He already put up with that in Boston for 20 years. Simms and the supposed litany of NFL coaches who reek of jealousy of BB, is a very long list of people who are jealous. Not a good look. Ugly trait.

Noone likes Belichick. Saban either. (They are close friends by the way). Funny how both their careers started to tank around the same time. We could argue what success is but note the quality of assistant coaches and the quality of play from New England and Alabama. It all starts with the head coach and ends there. Could you have a beer with Bill? I've seen Jimmy Johnson invite him on his boat and talk ball but Belichick brought his girl with him. Why? So he can have an excuse to leave? He isn't good with people--good at winning yes but that's really all. Chris is right. Noone wanted to work with him and it showed on the field. Life is short man.

Or, insert another horrendously managed franchise name here: Hilarious, albeit VERY creepy logic. Keep it up. Being clueless is a good look for you. Serious CTE vibes. You need to think outside the box or at least think. Ever consider that UNC wanted the low buy out in case things went sideways fast in a high risk, high reward sitch? There is a HUGE anti-football contingent amongst UNC faculty and admin; you do not know that because you are a babbling podcaster who gets all his info second and third hand. Second, BB could've wanted the low buyout number to remove any excuses from NFL franchises for continuing to ignore him. Think of it as a big eff you to the league, ie, I'm here, I'm working, I'm cheap -- and still you have no interest. That's on them.

I agree the low buy-out is not so that he will leave...

Well it's Belicheat so firing him on a "for cause" pretext and not paying him the buyout shouldn't be hard. Especially given the byzantine NCAA rules that can trip up even truly honest and well intentioned coaches.

What Coach wants to deal with NFL Politics undermining them. Bill will have 100% control at UNC. As a coach should.
