First of all he worked out for 45 minutes, 4 days per week which comes out to a total of 180 minutes/3 hours per week.
He did do 1-2 warmup sets before most exercises, of course. He didn't just jump straight in, but when he did the working set it was all out, no bullshit, give it all you've got!
And yes it most certainly does work. In fact, I personally didn't really start growing until I started doing his Blood and Guts workout almost exactly to the T. If I do just one more working set, my performance on the whole workout suffers. I get that people are different, with different muscle fibers etc. But to me, this man cracked the code. I believe that this is the way to train.

Dorian’s transformation in less than a year inspired everyone I worked out with in my senior year of high school…totally unbelievable how quickly he got to championship level, then I read a muscle and fitness article on his high intensity 30 minute training sessions…I adopted shorter sessions immediately , and being a guy who never took pancakes 😉…stopping from over training took me to a level I never would have achieved. Ronnie is a legend with genetics found once in generations…Both are legends, both took the sport by storm and transformed the sport. What an amazing time for bodybuilding!!

The reason these two are the most dominant ever is even when they were off, they were still better than everyone else. Dorian’s posing and density mixed with his graininess are second to none. Ronnie with the great separation and sheer mass just catapulted him to first every year. Mind you, neither deserved EVERY Mr Olympia they won, but they were still the cream of the crop.
