    Good to get that clarified. If you get a chance might be of interest to people to see one of the hardware store versions so people can make their own minds up if they are tempted to go that way?
    My take, if lamina had stock I'd go that way, they are not sufficiently cheaper to justify drop in quality. Last time I looked at Lamina site they said not shipping to your country 👎

If/when it arrives I might do a vid to show how it looks and perhaps a before/after giving it a fettle. Don't expect Owens production values though lol this vid I thought looked incredible. He's got an eye for this stuff. I ordered on the 17th and it's still showing 'being prepared' so I'm not confident a hardware store is going to go through the hassle of collecting UK vat etc. Too much hassle for a 45e axe. And if lamina feel the same it may be time to tap up our Spanish friends...

  • @yonmusak

    Hi Owen, thanks for the video. What coppice cycle are you aiming for with this area? Are you going to get coppice under standards going, or is this 100% cleared? I have overgrown hornbeam and hazel coppice under oak standards and I'm trying to make a plan to bring it under some semblance of control.

    • @elemental4rce
      @elemental4rce  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! So in this particular area of the wood there is tons of birch, we are leaving any nice hornbeam, oak, chest and ash standards (very few of them to choose from) we are also leaving a few small hazel stools and hawthorn for the birds.
      Some of the areas we have done in previous years are looking great already. Usually find in the first year or two the bramble takes over but as the trees grow the bramble dies off. Makes for a good variety of habitat. Were getting lots of woodcock come into the coppice areas to nest.

    • @yonmusak
      @yonmusak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elemental4rce Thanks mate, super interesting. I spent the winter layering some enormous overgrown hazel coppice (40 years plus) to expand the plantation. I need to drop about 30% of the standards so that I stand a chance of getting the lower story going again. Like you, I have Ash, Oak and hornbeam, albeit well established. Good luck with the project - subscribed!

    • @paulhomsy2751
      @paulhomsy2751 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's all in the title and the description on top. 1.75 kg felling axe. in pounds it's precisely 3.87 lbs. (multiplying kgs by 2.21, you can round it to 3.85 lbs)

    That looks a really nice, smaller axe. How do you rate it?

  • @larrydarrell826
    @larrydarrell826 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Picking a basque axe is being spoiled for choice, you aren't going to go wrong. However, if you want to nitpick I prefer the 1.5kg over the 1.75kg. They both have the exact same head size and edge length. The extra 9 oz of the 1.75 comes from the maker leaving more metal around the walls of the eye and in the cheeks. It makes the 1.75 feel sluggish/awkward compared to the 1.5 and you have no advantage in edge length.

    • @awyrcoch
      @awyrcoch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      interesting, I guess you know that for a fact. I can't decide between the 1.5 and 1.75 to me it would be an axe to work a lot with, not a one-off camping tool I was leaning more towards the 1.75 but i might have to reconsider then

    • @elemental4rce
      @elemental4rce  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bushcraft spain buys the hardware store line from another company (not directly from hachas jauregi) and then they grind and finish them for resale at a premium price.
      Personally would advise you buying from a company that sells the hardware line and then grind it yourself or wait until lamnia has them back in stock for the full experience.

    • @williefick
      @williefick 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
