    It took several months of PT before I would even consider walking without my cane. It seemed to take much longer after the first amputation than if did for the second one. Learning to trust that you can balance and hold your weight on your prosthetic takes practice and time. One thing I did was walk up and down my hallway without my cane to help me improve my gait and confidence while being close to a wall just in case I needed to steady myself. I would count the number of steps I could take without my cane to help me know if I was improving. Setting small goals and achieving them is a real boost to staying positive.     Lost my right leg early this year and is very hard to stay positive sometimes . How long was therapy before you felt confident enough to walk out in the world with out the cane
