Another way is to set your camera manually first then put your flash in TTL. I usually use TTL with -1 exposure. This makes it more fluid than always sitting there messing around manual flash modes which in most situations is not possible.
Yes but if you are taking various photos and various people come in on different shots with different attire, it can change the output power. TTL is like auto white balance. Usually will be decently consistent, but does have small variations. After doing it manually for a while, you'll be able to get it figured out in 3 or 4 test photos. But it all depends on how much time you have. If you don't have any time and you're in a rush, auto ISO and TTL will get the job done and you'll have to make some minor adjustments in post.
