Here is a t better plot for a Star wars "Christmas" Special The Imperials have gotten intel about a possible location for a Rebel base. Imperial Spies arrive at the Rebel base in order to figure out the Rebels Plans and confirm that they are there. However they arrive during a Holiday Celebration the Empire Banned years Ago. They get caught up with the Festivities and get to know the Rebels. They share stories, you find out more about how the Empire effects the galaxy, maybe even have a few of the segments such as the Cantina scene. The Imperial Spies are contacted for their report afterwards. Instead of turning in the Rebels the Imperial Spies Lie and say the Base was empty with no signs of Life.
raptorhunter104 Why didn't we get that Star Wars Holiday Special again? Oh wait someone (who was probably fired the day after the special aired) thought hey variety shows are popular let's make Star Wars a variety show fill it with guest stars
I have a giant book called "The Star Wars Vault" which goes takes you through the making of all 6 movies. To my surprise, there was a whole page on the Holiday Special!
Reasons Holiday Special was actually good: 1. Great new characters with dope names: Lumpy and Itchy 2. Great cooking show 3. Only Star Wars show with porn 4. Jefferson Starship rocked out 5. The Transmitter guide video was hilarious 6. Carrie Fisher singing!! 7. Actually had a heartfelt ending 8. No Jar Jar
I got one this past Holiday season for my Star Wars rpg. Mine was blue. Go to his site and you can buy his shirts from there. He has some great ones. Thanks Greedo!
It is very surprising that Lucas didn't assign someone from Lucasfilm to oversee the holiday special. It was, after all, the only live action follow-up to the first film and 'Empire' was on the horizon. It could have damaged the build-up to that film.
Bea Arthur's scene was the best part of the special. You really feel sad for her and the bar patrons having to close down and leave. It had some EMOTION to it.
I was 11 years old when the Star Wars Holiday Special was on TV, and for those who weren't alive, or old enough to remember this on TV should remember that in 1978, only a few rich people had $1200 VCRs in their homes, and Star Wars wasn't available on VHS until the early 1980s. Anything on TV that was Star Wars and had original cast members in it was eagerly anticipated and avidly watched . . . Even if it looked like George Lucas meets The Carol Burnett Show meets Sid and Marty Kroft. Also this special is still fun to watch thanks to Rifftrax.
Iam Cleaver True that. However, I think the bad ending of ROTS gave a really huge emotional impact and did a good job setting up the events of A New Hope
Oh and here we go again. I love this time of year knowing I will get to watch this hilarious video once more. This one is a classic Greedo, you should make a new video for this particular Star Wars disaster. Its side-splitting
Oh yeah, another year and another enjoyable viewing of this hilarious video. This becomes a yearly tradition for me along with the Holiday Special. You have to watch the one on TH-cam that includes all the commercials from 1977, it is a serious blast from the past. Thank you Greedo for this video! Happy Life Day to you and to one and all!
Thanks again for this video Hello Greedo! Every year around the holidays I pull this up and get all nostalgic for the Holiday Special. I remember it coming out and the long wait for it only to be disappointed and wondering WTF! Your sequencing of the entire special is just enough for me to actually say I kinda like the special, but no, not really. Your commentary has me in stitches every holiday season, so thanks for that.
As a child of the 80's-- and a HUGE Star Wars fan-- I don't know how I missed this special. After this clip, not to mention everything else I've read on the subject, all I can say is: "THANK THE MAKER!" What a fucking train wreck!! XD
+Pikachugotgame I must have confused it with that other god-awful train wreck... you know, the one with the Ewoks and that Drew Barrymore lookalike! I looked up the date, just to confirm what HelloGreedo said. I was four when this... er... "Special" aired.
I never laughed so hard in my life, my sides still hurt. Great review Greedo. Thanks for bringing back some of my childhood memories. I feel a Life Day celebration coming up in my near future with friends and family.
Hey Greedo, this video has now become part of my holiday play list. You know, I watch Rudolph and then this, Frosiy and then this, you get the idea. It still cracks me the hell up and it works really well with my Star Wars rpg group
I adore this special in a "so bad it's good" way. And did find a few genuinely cute moments. On a side note, my grandma went to high school with Diahann Carrol. What would Grandma say if she could see Diahann now...
+Sith Gardevoir It looked like the original, minus the nacelles. Edit: It looks like the refit version, just after the self destruct's gone off in The Search for Spock. So it's full of Klingons wondering what that countdown was about, why the pinko humans like their ships hot as an oven, and what that bang wa
+Cybermat47 Also spotted: The Planet Express ship, maybe the previous version that got ditched on the Bee Planet, and a saucer from Independance DAy? Or from The Thing?
I was 5 at the time and this was such a big deal and we were so excited to watch. To actually see Star Wars on TV seemed unbelievable. I remember being angry with all of the singing and no Star Wars characters. Amazing just how terrible this was.
I watched this when it aired in 1978. The only parts of this video that rang a bell were the wookies wookies wookies and Carrie Fisher singing a song. If this aired in November, that was probably all I remembered about by December.
HelloGreedo you never disappoint! This is one of your best. So glad I found your channel and check it regularly. As a Star Wars fan, I can truly appreciate your insight and comedic approach to reviews. Hilarious! Looking forward to getting your take on the approaching films. Keep up the good work and Happy Life Day!
I saw this on TV when I was maybe 5 years old, but possibly 4. This is Australia around 1980-81. Thing is, no one ever spoke of it, even though every kid I grew up with was a fanatic. I started to think I must have dreamt it. Then when I was about 13 I met one other kid that had seen it. As a result of that shared horrendous experience, we are still friends to this day, 30 years later
Another year, and another Life Day means another viewing of Greedos video. Thanks again Greedo. I show the Holiday Special to my 8th grade class every year and they stop whatever they are doing and watch, captivated by what I do not know. They cannot be sure what is happening on the screen but it holds their attention for the entire class. They just stare transfixed. Weird but hilarious. Once more a Happy Life day to you and the family Greedo. Thank you for such a memorable video for such a memorably bad but transfixing Holiday Special.
Did anyone noticed the heavy damadged TMP era ship in the background at min 1.10 ? Looks like one of the old Connies but could just be a random cruiser.
Lucas did contribute a few things. Mostly the basic premise of wookies having a holiday called Life Day and living on Kashyk. But then the variety tv show team took that and totally ran with it in another direction.
I know I saw the special when I was a child but I remember very little. Mostly Chewie's family and that's about it. I'm actually afraid to rewatch it. This video was hilarious though. LOL
Citizen Kane does not have a Christmas Special. The Godfather does not have a Christmas Special. Only the greatest movie ever made, or that ever will be made, has a Christmas Special. Happy Life Day, and may the Force be with you, always.
An interesting anecdote that I have yet to hear anyone remark on is the animation style/character design in the animation portion of the Christmas special is pretty much identical to the 'Droids' cartoon series which came out a few years later in the early 80s. Furthermore, that Clone Wars CGI series is inspired greatly by that same animation style/character designing. I guess someone at Lucasfilm thought it was 'stylistically extreme' but they could 'diminish the effects' of it! I was never really inspired by it though.
Ah Yes, another set of holidays, and another watching of the Holiday Special. There is nothing like it, nothing like Bantha Surprise and Anus Soup. Thanks for this video Greedo, it has become a favorite November holiday friend. along with the Holiday Special.
I watched 1/5 of the holiday special and I was thinking, “OH MY GOD PLEASE GO TO THE NEXT SCENE! I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO WATCH THIS BECAUSE I’M A STAR WARS FAN! I JUST WANT IT TO BE OVER!!!!!”
Okay, I seriously don't think this had more heart than the prequels. Yes the prequels were shit but George never intended for them to be shit. When he made Episodes 1-3, he actually thought they were gonna be well loved films and and he tried to make them great. He TRIED. None of that is present in this special. The stories you suggested were no where near the producers minds when they made this travesty. I don't like the prequels as much as you do, Mr.Greedo, but saying THIS is better than the prequels is crossing the line even though this is sort of your guilty pleasure which I can understand. After all, Revenge of the Sith is my guilty pleasure and is apparently to a lot of people as well.
Well Hello Greedo has a recurring joke of making fun of the prequels. He might just be making another joke to make fun of the prequels more than his actual opinion.
The prequels are well loved films. I love the prequels and nearly everyone I know loves the prequels. Lucas made the movies for himself, not the fans of the Ot. Me and others love how different the prequels are than the originals. That's why they're awesome.
"Hamill has said that the whole reason for the wampa scene in the Empire Strikes Back was to explain some facial scarring that occurred during the accident." Hamill said that? Is there a recording of it? I read somewhere that Lucas has denied that (and one piece of evidence against it being the fact that we can see his face prior to the wampa attack). Also, is that the best they could do for the other wookies? The ewoks were more convincing than that.
Oh yes, another year and another viewing of this incredibly hilarious video! I am watching on the exact anniversary of the holiday special too. It came out on Nov 17th, 1977, and I remember being 12 years old in my X-Wing pajamas waiting patiently. What did we get? Robbed, that's what. However, 43 years later it makes for some great comedy. I highly recommend this video and the Star Wars Holiday Special, if only to see Bea Arthur sing "Just One More Round". Disney+ is releasing a Lego Star Wars Holiday Special today, check it out!
+gencreeper Honestly I would rather have Binks than the horrific murderous looking (wookie?) family and bizarre creepy dirty old man wookie with his random space porn helmet in fact I think I would rather watch a whole spin off film about the life of Jar Jar than this lol
Having seen the "holiday special" on TV those many years ago, I would not say it was "the worst" thing they have ever done. It was a TV special made for children not for adults.
You just talked me out of (saved me from) watching the holiday special- your videos are hilarious, please keep trashing the prequels, I know some people complain about it but the truth is the truth :)
It's sad because as kid I watched this when it aired. And I hate to admit I loved it. I was 6. Fast forward a few years when it was released on a compilation DVD that something to do with R2 I watched it again. I wanted to poke my eyes out. What was I thinking?!?!?
It's so perfect that a show like this was produced--this was so 70s. It's like someone said, "How can we exploit the highest grossing film to date? Let's make a holiday special/variety show." If you could equate the worst polyester suit to a show, this would be it.
I saw this show when it aired, and remember picking apart the goofy parts. BUT, you have to remember this in the context of the time after Ep IV hit the theatres. There was no such thing as marketing merchandise for movies on the level it is today. George Lucas wouldn't hardly give us a damn thing unless Hasbro or Matel had something to do with it, and there was no watching Ep IV over and over again until the 80's on VHS or when it would return to the theatres every couple of years. We had a few figures of the main characters, and only a couple of ships for a long time. The Boba Fett could only be had after you saved the Matel stamps from other stuff you bought, and then mailed it in. So, when this Holiday Special came out it was like gettign a wider glimpse into the Star Wars universe, and you knew you better be sitting in front of the TV when the street lights came on, because there wouldn't be an re-runs. Thanks for posting this. It's the first time since I've seen any of it, since that night it aired on TV. It also reminded me of being pissed that Han didn't shoot that Stormtrooper with his blaster instead of doing the juke fall to death move. I wanted to see some burnt armor and laser beams!!
Even watching this review to the end is hard.. Let alone the entire movie. I tried to finish it but never succeeded. Respect if you were able to sit through the entire horror.
Carrie fisher has a copy of the Holiday Special that she plays at the end of parties, when she wants EVERYONE to leave.
I feel like I would do something like that
I would stay.
Ben Thomas 😖 Rest In Peace Carrie Fisher. She's a legend in my book.
RIP Carrie.
[LEXiFY] So was her mom.
I think Harrison Ford summed it up best when asked if he had seen the Holiday Special."NO, no. I was there man I didn't have to see it."
STIR WHIP STIR WHIP WHIP WHIP STIR
I can never watch Carol Burnett again

raptorhunter104 Somebody write a script for this! Now!
raptorhunter104 This should be made!
raptorhunter104 That kind of reminds me of the story of the Christmas truce from World War I. I would like to see that.
Spar10Leonidas As would I.

Why didn't we get that Star Wars Holiday Special again? Oh wait someone (who was probably fired the day after the special aired) thought hey variety shows are popular let's make Star Wars a variety show fill it with guest stars
1:09 Obvious Angry Video Game Nerd reference is obvious
that is the absolute first thing that came to mind. I can't remember what Episode exactly it was from, but yeah.
+Arthur McDowell The Superman (Not 64) episode! ^^
+Navlock aaaahahaha, yes yes yes. Thank you, very much. :)
KoffieWolf No, it's a quote from Angry Video Game Nerd.
Thought the same thing!
I have a giant book called "The Star Wars Vault" which goes takes you through the making of all 6 movies. To my surprise, there was a whole page on the Holiday Special!

All I care about is where to get that shirt you're wearing
+Ayden King I've wanted one of these for so long. Even though it's past the holidays I'm still getting it for next year lol
I got one this past Holiday season for my Star Wars rpg. Mine was blue. Go to his site and you can buy his shirts from there. He has some great ones. Thanks Greedo!
I want that sweater
There you go: www.redbubble.com/people/hellogreedo/works/11092921-happy-life-day-star-wars-holiday-special-christmas-sweater-design

Interesting info huge sid and marty krofft fan and a huge star wars fan too💛
blown up enterprise at 1:07 I'm still giggling!!!!
This special is worse than Attack of the Clones (and that says something), but I lol'd at the cooking show part for some reason :P
Attack of the clones is the best of the prequels.
+Iam Cleaver
IMO Revenge of the Sith was the best of all 3, AOTC was the worst IMO, but it had some redeeming factors.
N05L31 Revenge of the sith had a bad end. TOo dark for my taste. Clones had a sweet love story, however poorly handled.
Iam Cleaver True that. However, I think the bad ending of ROTS gave a really huge emotional impact and did a good job setting up the events of A New Hope
N05L31 I don't think so. If Anakin didn't choke Padme, I would be alright with the movie, but that moment killed it for me.
"You don't want warm piss! You want STAR WARS!"
Episode VII Tagline material right there.
***** What if I want both?
RomrotMechanikos meh, whatever floats your boat :D just keep your bedroom preferences in the bedroom, thank you :P
Xander Whovian well is it any worse than the people that want to fuck Chewie?
once again, whatever floats thier boat :D besides, who wouldn't? he's so cuddly and furry, and an absolute beast in bed :P
***** That's the funniest thing iv'e seen all week. Thank you.
my favourite line in the whole thing is 'Raaaaaaaaaarggghhhh!' , gets me everytime
NO WAY IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND IS THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL BETTER THAN ANY MOVIE OF THE PREQUELS!!
Oh and here we go again. I love this time of year knowing I will get to watch this hilarious video once more. This one is a classic Greedo, you should make a new video for this particular Star Wars disaster. Its side-splitting
Life Day is the Christmas of Star Wars, i loved it in SWG, was my favorite celebration during nge, was very very fun, enjoyed it every year
Oh yeah, another year and another enjoyable viewing of this hilarious video. This becomes a yearly tradition for me along with the Holiday Special. You have to watch the one on TH-cam that includes all the commercials from 1977, it is a serious blast from the past. Thank you Greedo for this video! Happy Life Day to you and to one and all!
I never thought I'd hear mention of it again...
MArk Hamil could have made a great young (live action) Joker.. think about it.. Like a dark ahead of it's time batman movie in the late 70's
he was a live action joker
+The Fake Chris Jericho Um...no..?
Hotdogninja shit I got confused I thought he was the 1966 joker
***** I know I got confused for a sec
Think he plays a animated joker today
XD
it was in the 70's
+Pikachugotgame I must have confused it with that other god-awful train wreck... you know, the one with the Ewoks and that Drew Barrymore lookalike! I looked up the date, just to confirm what HelloGreedo said. I was four when this... er... "Special" aired.
Carrie Fisher should have a pretty good voice...her mother is Debbie Reynolds and her dad was Joey Fisher.
1:20 Im watching this video in Superman Pajamas XD
+TheBlackSmithGamer I hope you are over 40.
I never laughed so hard in my life, my sides still hurt. Great review Greedo. Thanks for bringing back some of my childhood memories. I feel a Life Day celebration coming up in my near future with friends and family.
8:07 Greedo:"This is fucking insane, why am I still reviewing this piece of shit,is anyone still watching!!" This is my first time hearing this O_O
Hey Greedo, this video has now become part of my holiday play list. You know, I watch Rudolph and then this, Frosiy and then this, you get the idea. It still cracks me the hell up and it works really well with my Star Wars rpg group
Lol...Life Day is the biggest complaint???
I adore this special in a "so bad it's good" way. And did find a few genuinely cute moments.
On a side note, my grandma went to high school with Diahann Carrol. What would Grandma say if she could see Diahann now...
7:00 what the hell were they thinking!
+TheRubberStudiosASMR theres this marvelous thing called Acid...im sure a lot was done before the script was written
They admitted to wanting it to be like softcore porn that got passed the censor
You sound like AVGN at 3:44
Tucker Ainsworth For a brief moment... he transformed into the AVGN
+HaloSpartanSpaceMarine. 1:08 is a direct reference to the AVGN
Why was the USS Enterprise burning in HelloGreedo's background? O_o
Lol I saw that too.
+Cybermat47 i just wonder what team is in there... the classic? the new generation?
+Sith Gardevoir It looked like the original, minus the nacelles.

Keep up the good work and Happy Life Day!
You forgot to mention Harvey Korman 9:36 . Great comedic actor from blazing saddles and high anxiety.
Doug Unfunny He also never mentioned Art Carney.
Maybe he's not familiar with either of them.
I saw this on TV when I was maybe 5 years old, but possibly 4. This is Australia around 1980-81. Thing is, no one ever spoke of it, even though every kid I grew up with was a fanatic. DUDE your window....that is some damn nice chroma key
Lol the officer is searching the wookies room and the Stormtrooper is just throwing stuff around.
Ive only heard of the cartoon that introduced boba fett
Another year, and another Life Day means another viewing of Greedos video. Thanks again Greedo. love the sweater! Happy Life Day everyone!
Oh dear lord what did they do to star wars!.
Did anyone noticed the heavy damadged TMP era ship in the background at min 1.10 ?
Looks like one of the old Connies but could just be a random cruiser.
Please do a short review of the Ewok movies
One of the few bootlegs that exists of this was recorded right in Dayton, my hometown.
Wait there are bootlegs of this?
@@rebornotherlan yes, people made off-air recordings of this shitshow. Otherwise, it would be lost.
Lucas did contribute a few things. Mostly the basic premise of wookies having a holiday called Life Day and living on Kashyk. But then the variety tv show team took that and totally ran with it in another direction.
Looks like a parody.
i laughed so hard when the wookie was staring at the hologram board!!
I love how it's called life day but that doesn't stop Han from throwing a stormtrooper off a balcony most likely killing him in front of Chewie's son.
is it canon?xD
Fischbuden-Fritz LP bits and pieces are cannon, and by bits and pieces I mean just life day.
mobbles1 luckily
***** WHAT?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! damn you official cannon!
Fischbuden-Fritz LP Some of it is, some of it isn't.
I think this movie is the reason why Disney made the EU non-canon
This is by far your funniest video ever
One good thing I can try to say about this special is that the wookie customes look kinda nice.
I'd rather watch 2 hours of Wookies w/ no translation than The Phantom Menace
I know I saw the special when I was a child but I remember very little. Mostly Chewie's family and that's about it. I'm actually afraid to rewatch it. This video was hilarious though. LOL
Citizen Kane does not have a Christmas Special. The Godfather does not have a Christmas Special. Only the greatest movie ever made, or that ever will be made, has a Christmas Special. Happy Life Day, and may the Force be with you, always.
Nice background cabin there.
Nice Planet Express Ship in the background!

Ah Yes, another set of holidays, and another watching of the Holiday Special. There is nothing like it, nothing like Bantha Surprise and Anus Soup. Thanks for this video Greedo, it has become a favorite November holiday friend. along with the Holiday Special.
I wish this video was longer, it was so good
I watched 1/5 of the holiday special and I was thinking, “OH MY GOD PLEASE GO TO THE NEXT SCENE! I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO WATCH THIS BECAUSE I’M A STAR WARS FAN! I JUST WANT IT TO BE OVER!!!!!”
I have enjoyed the one good thing to come out of this special, the Life day event every winter in the mmo swtor.
My first christmas themed youtube video for this christmas.
Okay, I seriously don't think this had more heart than the prequels. Yes the prequels were shit but George never intended for them to be shit. Well Hello Greedo has a recurring joke of making fun of the prequels. He might just be making another joke to make fun of the prequels more than his actual opinion.
DancingValkyrie He took back what he said, claiming the Prequels were better than the Holiday Special.
why did you comment on a comment from 3 years ago? I don't do that except for now but this does not count.
The prequels are well loved films. I love the prequels and nearly everyone I know loves the prequels.
Lucas made the movies for himself, not the fans of the Ot. Me and others love how different the prequels are than the originals. That's why they're awesome.
"We're never going to beat Titanic" - Actual quote from George, during the filming of Episode 1, or 2 i forget
"Hamill has said that the whole reason for the wampa scene in the Empire Strikes Back was to explain some facial scarring that occurred during the accident."

Oh yes, another year and another viewing of this incredibly hilarious video! I am watching on the exact anniversary of the holiday special too. Correction Joe, it came out on Nov 17th, 1978.
Happy Life Day to everyone!!!
I watched best of rifftrax video for this with my dad. I have never seen him laugh so hard.
Anyone else saw the Enterprise burning outside the window?
THIS IS FUCKING HILARIOUS hahaha OMG I'm crying with laughter hahaha the wookie's son bit
at least binks isnt in the holiday special amiright? lol
+gencreeper Honestly I would rather have Binks than the horrific murderous looking (wookie?) family and bizarre creepy dirty old man wookie with his random space porn helmet in fact I think I would rather watch a whole spin off film about the life of Jar Jar than this lol
At least Jar Jar speaks English (... or Basic). 80% of the holiday special is Wookie roars.
The Nostalgia critic's version of it did.
I would rather have one annoying character that you can understand than a whole bunch of annoying characters that need subtitles.
Hahaha prequel bad. Now laugh
I had no idea this even existed. Thank you HelloGreedo.
Having seen the "holiday special" on TV those many years ago, I would not say it was "the worst" thing they have ever done. It was a TV special made for children not for adults.
+Efrain Rios _And_ it was the 70s... ;-)
+Efrain Rios A fair point. But if my kids came home with a movie that contained that Grandpa scene, i'd throw that disk into the Sarlacc pit.
+Frankenstein077 I am a child from the 1970's :-P
Efrain Rios So am I ;-)
I don't see how children could enjoy this
I found it oddly entertaining. I know it's terrible, but it's kinda so bad it's good
Oh god, u think!
HAHAHAHAHA!!! ...no. it's a boring waste of time. Sorry.
I love the "stir, whip, stir, whip, whip, whip, stir" scene.
7:42 So that's why Lemmy always has his mike pointed down.
9:49 Cheers set in the Mos Eisley Cantina?
This makes the Sequel Trilogy look like The Dark Knight Trilogy
The funny thing though is that this is basically an early Empire Strikes Back, Because it's running time is longer than most star wars movies
You just talked me out of (saved me from) watching the holiday special- your videos are hilarious, please keep trashing the prequels, I know some people complain about it but the truth is the truth :)
My head-canon: An officer once gave a mini fish tank to Moff Tarkin as a gift and he still doesn't know what to do with it.
It's sad because as kid I watched this when it aired. And I hate to admit I loved it. I was 6. Fast forward a few years when it was released on a compilation DVD that something to do with R2 I watched it again. I wanted to poke my eyes out. What was I thinking?!?!?
the precuels ARE better tan this!!!!!!
1:06 TAKE THAT STAR TREK!
AWESOME SHOW thank you
Did you just reference AVGN?
Happy Life Day HelloGreedo.
When this first aired it made Battlestar Galactica even more popular.
is that a "At Home with Owen" album cover I see on the wall?
0:45 that should be the quote on the blue ray release of this masterpiece
The horror, the horror. I could only watch in one minute intervals
I watch this video review every year around Christmas because it's funny. :3
It's so perfect that a show like this was produced--this was so 70s. It's like someone said, "How can we exploit the highest grossing film to date? Let's make a holiday special/variety show." If you could equate the worst polyester suit to a show, this would be it.
Rifftrax joke
Michael J. Nelson: "He's using Zack Morris' cell phone!😄
You should make a super-cut of the warm piss where you show the GOOD bits.
