      @Off Grid Athlete you need more then 1 jaboticaba they do not self pollinate a group of atleast 2-3 is recommended also @13:17 when you hit the sides of the wall of the hole you made so the water can channel and hold water is bad idea as it can be susceptible to root rot that way just some advice they love water but dnt drown it

    I love your videos. I'm from Paraguay. I grew up eating loquats, dates, and jabuticabas on the tree. I used to climb on the trees, sitting down on the branches. Hi there! Although jaboticaba needs a drained soil, it also likes water, so don't forget to put water to her frequently. Talking about that names like "sabará" etc, in fact those are kinds of jaboticabas, some are bigger, some are smaller, some are very sweety, some are more acid.
    You can make jams, drinks, juices, liquors, pies and other kinds of food with it.
    In Brazil, we don't eat too much of its skin of seeds, because can cause some bellyache hahahah. Regards.

    Also can grow a bael tree (aegle marmelos) Its from North India and can grow in semi desert area. Its a very powerful fruit to make juice that tastes amazing, And its magic too because it helps one stop sweating (it cools the boday) and it ripens during late Spring/beginning of monsoon. The fruit has a shell like coconut and it stores for months (or even up to a year in a root cellar). It has plenty medicinal uses too. It is also the holiest plant for Shaiva Hindus.

    A few extra tips: jabuticaba tree is pratically a fish, loves water. I got one in a vase and after a few days of rain, the fruits got as big as marbles and so juicy and sweet. It's good to prune the tree, cutting off the branches that grow to the middle of the tree (leaving just the ones that grow to the outside), so that the middle of the tree gets plenny of sun light. I'm not really good explaining it, so, my suggestion is to look for youtube videos about "poda da jabuticabeira" (podar = to prune). The other names mentioned at the video I believe are types of jabuticaba. (Sabará is a type of jabuticaba). Last tip: she (here, "tree" is árvore, a feminine word, so we call trees "she") likes humidity around it's crown (?), otherwise the tips of the leaves will get dry and brown

      Great tips! I planted my first Jaboticaba 6 years ago, only a little fruit a couple of times. One day in dry tropical Australian 'winter' so 26-28°C averages, i forgot to turn my sprinkler system off and it got really soaked. 2 days later the tree burst into flower and is now loaded with fruit.

    Nicely done! However, current research says that you should backfill the tree with native soil, not enriched soils. Adding nutrient rich soils right around the newly planted tree discourages it from growing new roots because it does not need to if all its nutrients are right there. This can lead to problems in a few years when the tree has a much denser canopy, yet the root system hasn't expanded. As hard as it is to bring yourself to it, it is best to stress your tree out when you plant it so it can develop a strong root system.

    • @jrpapi5
      @jrpapi5 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dave Anderson agreed

    • @PickledPoacher
      @PickledPoacher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Water stress can be used to reinstate root development. The nutrient requirement of the plant will be preferable to a high or a low organic matter soil. Which is it? Does it like low nutrient soil or not? What is the primer? What is the native biome of biology that grows in symbiosis with the tree in its native locations? Getting the soil to more closely resemble the soils where it naturally grows will provide the best opportunity. Different organic inputs and or minerals fundamentally alter the ratios of biology. Some microbes like horse manure, some like compost, some like lignin or carbohydrate. Depending on what you add you will end up with xyz microbes..plants have evolved to life with specific biological partners. We can encourage these by knowing what inputs attract which microbes.
      On water use perhaps look not only at Mycorrhizas but also Humic Acid which is able to attract water and roll it up preventing it's loss
      Lots of research online to support this too.

    If you live in the desert wouldn't you want soil that holds moisture rather than well draining soil? Especially if you really want to minimize the amount you have to water. I live in Dallas and it currently hasn't rained in a month and that's nothing. We can go several months with no rain but we can also have rain off and on for a month but i have clay and loam soil and i never have to water unless it's a dry spell like right now.

    • @ashleysanchez1163
      @ashleysanchez1163 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WesleyAPEX It has rained within the past month. I'm in the DFW area and we've gotten rain a couple of times. Not big storms but some rain. Soil that holds moisture can sometimes lead to rot. It's better to water a plant when it dries out than water something once and it gets waterlogged.

    Certify from planting seeds of the "hybrid" jabuticabeira and the "sabará" variety. The hybrid Jabuticabeira germinated from the seed will take up to 4 years to bear fruit for the first time, however, the "jabuticabeira sabará" will take up to 15 years to bear fruit for the first time. Another difference is that the Jabuticabeira hybrid, in addition to precocious will have fruits throughout the year, the jabuticabeira will know, although having a sweet taste, will only fruit once during the year. The hybrid variety has larger leaves, the variety sabará will have smaller ornamental leaves.

      If you plant a hybrid "jabuticabeira" variety it will have fruit for a maximum of 4 years and will produce the entire year.

      How long does it take for them to begin to bear fruit? A few years? A decade? I live in the us and I want to try to grow one in a pot inside and as it begins to get bigger I want to plant it in my backyard.

      Wow! Good for you Pascoal! Growing up we have 3 of them, already planted and grown to full size, as we moved in the house. Very sweet! Heard they also have whitish ones (on the outside!), but never saw. Used to love it, but today - being away from it for over 30 years, I think it looks a bit gross, all sticking to the trunk! Haha. Still love the fruit and the way to which they grow! Amazing nature :)

      @@amal9001 I found seedlings online here, ordered them from Lazada, but they arrived dead... sad, still my plan, but budget is tight. Just had level 4 Typhoon Odette destroy our area, so gardening isn't on my list of jobs right now.
