    Another brilliant video with analysis. As a novice, I am now completely hooked. Ten minutes of chess drama really spices up my day. To be one move away from check-mate and then to LOSE! OMG, I would be having nightmares about that for the rest of my live. Thank you Antonio!

      You have a morally correct view, but a practically and functionally useless one. We all would prefer a world in which all that never happened, but we're in the wrong multiverse right now, so the best you can do is just to go with the flow. Nothing can change what had happened in the past; let's use the past, instead of refusing it, to form a better future

    @7:36 to continue the attack for white, instead of the lengthy variation, how about: After rook to H6, and king to G5, white plays queen to E7. After king captures rook, queen to F6. This is check mate? surely im missing something?

    4:00 the pawn dissapears... i‘ve noticed this glich a couple of times. Can someone explain?

  • @tuoljg
    @tuoljg 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    why is h5 weird it obviously has to idea to stop g4 from white, which white probably would play automatically next move if given the chance

    • @BloodPuls3
      @BloodPuls3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It seems anti-positional however, it creates weakness while black King is also uncastled and with the pawns already pushed on A and B file. Although it has the purpose of preventing H4 I instinctively saw it as a blunder of sorts, and as evidenced by the ending sequence Carlsen was able to utilise the weakness of the H-file. This is all from my own understanding however, I'm not sure how an engine would evaluate the move.

    • @TheChessViking
      @TheChessViking 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ...h5 is standard in the Najdorf against English Attack type setups (Be3/Qd2/f3) but here perhaps it was premature. If black plays just ...Be7 white can't play g4 as I pointed out in my video analysis of this game.

  • @samagrabarnwal

    Ph5 simply prevents g4. Granted it weakens g5 but it's small price to pay for the comfort of not getting pawnstormed on the king's side. The idea is seen in the h3-Najdorf as well.

    Why not capture the bishop immediately? Why push the pawn? It seems like capturing the bishop immediately does guard against checkmate...

      after looking at it a second time, either way is fine. Pushing pawn is just more precise.

      Andrew Liesemer again why though, it's winning both ways but why give up a pawn? It just doesn't seem like a useful move.

      +Salim Habash OK I have checked the variations on stockfish and the computers likes both moves but prefers g5 first. The thing is when you don't push the pawn you allow the exchange of rooks, you have to calculate for potentials perpetuals and overall the black queen will be really active, the black king is not too bad and you still have to deal with a kingside pon majority with "only" a bishop. It is winning but difficult. In the other variations however you keep the rooks so the pawns are not that threatening immediately and your king is safe forever on the back rank since the rook will make a good job of protecting it. Besides, that extra pawn will still be difficult to protect in the first version so not that much of an advantage.

    #questions for Magnus, do you think that becoming a world champion is something that can only be done by someone who has a natural gift, or could anyone who has the passion do it?

    Wow you scored a point for spelling Wojtaszek correctly. Most comentators spells it "Wojstasek" and its annoy me a bit

    Black was probably frightened by the threat of g4-g5 so played h5 to prevent this. g4 is double edge though and I don't think black should fear it.

    I'm sure Wojtaszek just thought Carlsen would capture the bishop and being a piece down Wojtaszek would have lost. He probably didn't calculate all of that.
