Do not pay for an out of state school or private school unless you have a full scholarship. You do not need a college degree to act, and the last thing you need is 50 G in debt as a young actor. Read books on acting, Stanislavski etc. Don't go to college unless you have a very specific job in mind and there is a direct path to that job.

what if you don’t have a specific job in mind but want to go to a community college? it’s good for exploring i guess right because i’m so damn tired of these 9-5 jobs 🥲

@@Greeneyes831 I would definitely go to community College instead of a big college. It's so much cheaper and close to home and saved us so much money. You can take your prerequisites and have plenty of time to decide on something 😊

@@Greeneyes831 community college is great. There are tons of jobs you can do with two year degree or less that pay more than jobs that require a four year or master's degree. Everyone I know that went to community college has a house now, because they aren't tied down with student loans. Millennials were flat out lied too about college.

im 30 and im only now "following my dream" to pursue a career in entertainment! what I might suggest for you is to find local opportunities for acting(if any), such as background acting and student films and any local productions. theater too! You could even remotely audition for small roles and then temporarily move for them just to have an experience! You will need to build up an acting resume anyhow to prove your skill. Also, to continue taking acting classes from different teachers, as everyone's methodology and styles are different. immerse yourself in every way, network, and try all the different acting facets and opportunities that come your way! and then once you've exhausted your options, you may feel more ready to move farther from your family too. edit-also take different skill building classes! dancing, martial arts, gun handling, etc. are some big ones. it all counts! diversify your skills so you can land more niche roles ! hope some of that helps!

The best advice I have as someone who was 17 and went through the exact same thing feeling the immense pressure of “I need to know what I’m doing with the rest of my life at 17/18” is that you don’t. The best thing I ever did was took a year off for me and traveled and worked right after high school to get experience. You do not need to rush into anything. You do not need to go to college straight after high school just because that’s what everyone else is doing. The biggest mistake you make at that age is thinking you don’t have time and you have to have it all figured out. Your life is just beginning and you have more than enough time to experience new things that will help guide you to whatever you end up becoming in life. Most adults still have no idea what they are doing with their lives nobody has it figured out. Life is truly a journey and there is no one right way. You just have to do what feels right for you.
I believe the best thing for kids graduating is to take 6months to a 1 year off if you’re unsure about what to do. Experience life, go travel, try some new things, move away from your home town, get some work experience, focus on yourself and who you want to become. Don’t go straight into debt if there are other options. College is always going to be there don’t feel like you have to rush into it. There is a lot of options if you want to become an actor. I would talk to actors in the business now and get some advice on the path they took. Best of luck!

Girl. I’m gonna tell you right now that 3 Years ago I was in the EXACT same situation (same major and everything.) I rushed to go to a musical theatre college in NYC and tried to avoid the feeling that I wasn’t ready and those emotions caught up to me not long after i moved to the city. I ended up withdrawing within 3 months. Here i am 3 years later, and I’m finally going back to school this upcoming fall. You are young! don’t rush anything- everything falls into place and go when you’re ready!

Trust me when I say go to the California school if you get in. This year I moved far away from home to go to school and it was the best choice in my life. Yes moving is scary and you will miss people but the experience you get from moving will be life changing. Going to a school out of state will give you more opportunities than you think because you aren't stuck with the same people who you have lived with your whole life and especially for you since you want to go to acting school, California will give you way more opportunities than ever and help you grow and learn in ways you would never have thought. When I say go out of state for college I mean it.

I honestly don't think you need to go to college for acting unless you just want to go for the extra connections and networking. You are ahead of most aspiring actors because you have a large TH-cam following that will only get bigger as you travel document your acting journey.

I’m nearly 28 now, and girl let me just say, take your time if you need it. I grew up in a tiny town in the backend of nowhere and rushed off to go to uni in a different country, but I took a year to work it all from when I graduated secondary school (high school). University was honestly t he best years of my life in terms of trying new things, meeting new people, and gaining experience in the film industry. Uni is not a necessity to work in film, but it helps re contacts (but these can be gained elsewhere through classes or just through networking) It’s up to you which path to go down, and honestly you can make it work either way: that’s the key, I think. If you’re committed and passionate about it, you’ll find a way to make it work. Be gentle with yourself, trust your gut and your feelings. Good luck with your journey! ❤

The good thing about college is that it allows you to experiment. You can find that what you thought you wanted wasn't it and change course. Other than that you've got it sorted: Capitalise on your talents and don't stress out or you might just miss what your mission is.

If you go to a college outside of State make sure you get a full scholarship or at least partial it will help with finances, yes it will be hard to be away from friends family and the boyfriend but in the long run it'll be worth it, but also keep in mind that you need a backup plan just in case acting doesn't blow off like you wanted to not saying you won't get something just saying that it's hard it's a hard industry to get into, write down a pro and con list if you have to on every one of the schools you apply to.. but if you do get into the school in California then you shouldn't hesitate and go for it but find out what your fall plan would be if you couldn't do it for whatever reasons.. just be proud of yourself that you're making these steps..

I used to be like that a lot as well like: "Oh man, I wish I could skip 5 or 10 years and do this or that and be more grown up and closer towards my "goal"..." And that's good, it shows ambition but remember to keep enjoying life as it is in the present moment. I'm 27 years old now and sometimes I kinda miss the school time! With growing up comes more responsibility and sometimes more worries and life throwing its lessons in your face. However, life is a journey! But you'll always decide what direction your boat is going!

moving away from friends and family is so hard, but its a huge growth experience. You learn to really stand on your own 2 feet, and you get to meet a whole new side of yourself. My family lives in Dubai, but I moved back to Canada for university. It was so scary at first, but after a while once you meet new people, you realize it's actually quite fun. Plus, in your case, California to Idaho though it is considered far in the US, it's not impossible in the grand scheme of things. No huge time difference to deal with, and the flights are short, and if you had to you could drive. But, go with your gut, I know it sounds crazy, but over thinking can sometimes lead you to come up with worries that might not actually be that big. Good luck, u got this

One of the best things I ever did for myself and my growth, was move away from my friends and family, it's sad and rough but I genuinely think it's something most people should do if they have the chance, it opens up a whole new side of you to meet and grow with. You can always visit an you can always move back, but I'd urge you to definitely not let friends/family keep you from your dreams, they'll always be there, the same opportunities might not be. Just something I've learned, and am genuinely grateful for, literally was the best decision I ever made was to move away from all I knew while I was still young, I grew so much, and I'm getting ready to set forth on a whole new adventure that I think will bring the same sort of experience. We never stop growing but embracing it while your young really helps set a habit to embrace it

Avia watching you grow up while I was also growing up, I looked up to you since you were 4 years old even though I am 10 years older than you, you know why? Because you were always SO brave, climbing up, jumping and just doing everything. I know what you are going through, I felt the same, the future is scary and uncertain but I have come to learn that whatever you do with love and passion always ends well, maybe not exactly how you expected but doing what you feel is best will take you where you need to be. So keep being the brave little girl and just go for what you think deep inside its right. Love from 6.000 miles away.

Yes, growth is really important and no matter what you choose to do, you will grow from that experience. Don't try to rush the future because honestly it will go by super fast. I'm finishing up my second year of college and I"m still unsure about the major I've chosen and my goals in life.I do recommend that you choose the college in state first and then transfer to the school in Cali if you still want to go there later on. Out of state tuition just isn't worth it unless your scholarships cover the whole thing. You should save money on your gen classes. It's something I wish I did, don't get tricked into paying a high tuition for regular classes that is offered at any college.

If you can go in-state initially to get lower tuition and knock out the "general education classes" you need before you get to the classes that go toward your major, I'd suggest that. College is really fun but nowadays it's really expensive so you want to make sure you're getting the best value. I'd also suggest you visit all the schools you applied to before making the final decision. You want to be comfortable and see college as a second "home" so you're not loving your classes but hating everything else and being miserable because you're not comfortable living there.

Everybody will tell you different outcomes, and what could or couldn't happen. It's a very uncomfy time in life when you're about to graduate high school. Personally, I went to college for a year and dropped out for three. It was what was best for me at that moment, but I also am so glad I experienced college that year. I am currently about to graduate with my associate's, and going on to university for my teaching degree at 24. My point is, life is crazy when it's your turn to make your own decisions and it's normal. It's normal to be questioning things, doubting things, having anxiety, etc. What I will say, though, is only you know what you need and at the end of the day this is your path. The answers will come to you as you need them, and sometimes those won't be easy answers. It's all about the process and enjoying what you can during it. I'm wishing you the best of luck in all your adventures! You can do it!!!

Go to college... Have an acting major... Work at the college radiostation. Do a show on the radio. Do stand up comedy while in school... When you graduate you will be surprised how good you work with the public and the camera. Then take acting lessons and work at a movie studio doing anything. Then try out for everything... If you really want it you can do it... Remember you are the key to your own success and there will be hundreds of bad days getting to your goal.

Another cautionary note....if you are going to live in NYC or LA, your living situation will likely be less than ideal. Prepare to pay 1200-2000 a month to live somewhere with mold and a major roach problem. 😔 Sorry to be so gloomy, I just don't want you to be shocked. I think you have the right idea going somewhere close to home with a scholarship. Student loan payments often leave you with nothing leftover for travel or fun. You could always go to LA sporadically to audition for things, live in an air bnb . If you want a big adventure, consider London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Copenhagen. Going to school in Europe is often less expensive as or just as expensive as going to an in-state school in America. Rent is still expensive is those cities but less expensive than New York, LA.

Avia as your internet big sister I just want to give you some encouragement/advice that I have learned and has helped me kind of breathe and just keep moving forward in life.
    1. It doesn’t have to be forever. I used to think I needed to find the end all be all resolution for life. 1 major at 1 college that lead to (or just skip that and go straight into) 1 career that I stayed in until I died. But that’s not really how our world works anymore. That was pretty typical for the generations before us but now a days it is totally normal to try things and if they stick great and if they don’t, move on. I had so many friends go into college immediately after high school and waste so much money because they had it in their head theyd be doing one thing their whole life and at the end of the day just hated it and dropped out. None of them turned into a bum and live on the streets. They’re all thriving. Just not in ways they ever expected.
    2. It’s okay to wait and pray about big decisions. I took 4 years of working and helping my family with life before I went to college. And when I did I picked 1 major, stuck with it, and graduated in 4 years. Apparently that’s actually kind of rare. Maybe waiting helps. Haha. BUT with that said, technically my job isn’t even in my major. I just have a degree which helps me get a bigger paycheck 🤷🏻‍♀️.
    3. Just do something. Don’t feel like your decision has to define your whole life. It doesn’t. Just try what you’re interested in and pursue that. And if you decide you don’t love it at any point, it’s totally okay to choose a new path. That’s life. Just look at your dad. Skier, Counter top business, Radio DJ, TH-camr, VERY SUCCESSFUL TH-camr. Haha. Sure maybe there’s elements of his life he was struggling in and wouldn’t want that for you but the struggles built character and got him where he is today.
    4. This one is my favorite, it’s from Ecclesiastes. Everything is Hevel. At the end of the day, in light of eternity, nothing on this world is forever. None of it matters after you die. All that matters all that makes life worth living is loving the Lord, serving Him, and finding things that you enjoy as you continue learning and growing in who He created you to be.
You are already a much more successful business woman than even some adults your parents age. Don’t sell yourself short because you’re scared. Fear is not something to shy away from. Push into it and don’t let it hold you back.
We’re all cheering for you. You are smart, driven, and talented. You’ve got this girl. Just take life one day at a time and trust in the Lord.
    ♥️

This hits home. 25 year old here.
I have a master's degree in business and am pursuing a J.D. You should slow your roll. Go to community college. Take electives. See what you like and don't like. I loved music, and still do, but I figured out pretty early on that it wasn't the career path for me. There's not much to fall back on. I probably would've ended up teaching., which just isn't my thing There's not much out there besides that.
If you can't see yourself as doing the fallback option as a career, then do not do it. I also recommend going to a college that has accreditation. Prestiage and connections are a different story, but generally speaking, your education will be the same wherever you go as long as the college has that specific accreditation. Also, for-profit schools are generally not a good investment.
But as I said, take some classes at your local Pocatello community college. You'll have some general eds and some electives. You can play around with your classes and see what you like and what you don't like.

If you want to pursue acting, your best bet is going to LA or New York unfortunately. If you want to stay around home to get normal schooling, then go for it but let me tell you one thing, the years go by FAST. Faster and faster as you age. I regret not fully jumping in to things when I was younger. Please don’t stay around an area just to be near family and your boyfriend. As in love as you think you are, there is such a big life out there. If you and Ian are meant to be, your relationship will work out through the distance.

You remind me so much of myself especially when I was in high school💗 my dream is to be an actor too! I’m 22 and live in a dead end town in Illinois. I’m terrified because I want to move to la but I have no acting experience and I’m scared to fail.

I’m in my 3rd year of college. It’s completely okay to be stressed about your future. It’s a lot! I changed my major 3 times before I realized my passion. And it took me until this year to realize that I want to teach English. My future is still rocky and uncertain as I work towards graduating with my bachelors and moving into grad school for my masters. Everything will fall into place. There’s so much experiencing that happens and you’ll learn a lot as you grow older. It’ll be okay though 🤍

Personally, I’d go to the school closer to home-especially since it also has an acting program. California is so beautiful tho lol so it is still a hard choice. 😅
