They are definitely worth the gander. I keep a repository of these films for my Home Schooled Children. I often watch them for the shear enjoyment. They also benefit me by affording me better insight into the Greatest Generation that I grew up with in my neighborhood. As the only child left in that old post-War Boomer neighborhood, they were all my best friends. I always found the stories of their Lives extremely riveting. My Dad and Uncle Served in WWII. My Step-Mom was a Rosie Riveter and my Aunt was a USO volunteer.

If I remember correctly and not cheating with Google, the "Black Power" some people thought this film would be about started as a slogan in the mid-1960s for black political candidates, and it was named after a book. It was then wildly adopted by the Black Panthers, which I think also started in the mid 1960s.

The censoring elite Democrat factfarters at TH-cam-Google have ruled as “disinformation” and “hate” the false idea that this presentation is about the African American protest movement.

Yep, 1951 - when coal was still king. An acre of coal, 5 feet thick. $30,000. A huge amount of money in the early 50s.

In case anyone else is curious, that's 20,473,200 pounds or 9,306 tons so $3.22 a ton. That's based on solid anthracite coal weighing 94.02 lbs per cu ft and 43,560 square feet per acre times 5 feet deep.

I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to take a pause for a moment and give thanks for the many great contributions of the Black community and their culture to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature makes them ideal neighbours, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture.Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real Estate values are fueled by the influx of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nurturing of these communities, an example of all they have achieved by their enthusiasm for self-improvement through hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.

Living in southern West Virginia in the 80's, many of the miners lived like it was the 1950's. I notice that this film from the 1950's the families are living like it was the 1930's. Not too much progressive living out of all of this Black Power.

WV doesn't need progressive living, but the progressive living needed WVs coal. Now the so called progressives are leaving the miners with their asses hanging in the wind. Economic warfare against energy producing localities is what this is.

I'm disappointed with the mine owners and the state and federal government for not doing anything to help the miners now that coals demand will drop significantly with better and more ecological sound means of generating power and other industries the miners are being left out of a job with little prospects for help whole communities are being affected!
There should be some type of reeducation system and I think that the location of most mines would be ideal for Eco tourism and jobs and business opportunities for the people displaced by the closing of the mines!

Will it fall? The Poles suffer from a lack of coal before the onset of winter. After all, they refused coal from the Donbass. It's time to cash in on the Poles by selling them exorbitantly expensive coal (if the bad Poles don't want to buy cheap coal from the Donbass)
