Rye Overseed to Back Yard Golf again this winter.

- This has become my go-to for winter. A Tee box, fairway and green overseeded with rye. This has been fun for me because it gives me some mowing to do in the winter but also functions as a little spot where its fun to golf. Barenbrug sent me RPR perennial ryegrass for the project this year and I wish I could have used the RPR for all 20lbs per 1,000 sq ft, but time constraints made me pick up whatever I could find near me to do the second 10lbs per 1,000 sq ft.

So satisfying to watch cutting the tee box/fairway/green!
It is looking nice man cant wait for another video
ReelBobShady doesn’t know what he’s talking about! Good stuff man. Glad it all worked out this year.
First Aussie 😁. Mate, you got this. Don’t doubt yourself. 😎👍👍
Results at the end are fantastic! Good choice with 20lbs/1,000!
Can’t argue with those results. More is always better!!
You will have to keep us posted. Good choice on putting more seed down !!!!
That was freaking sweet!! Great video and the rye results were so beautiful! Good work, buddy!
Agreed.....why in the world would you ?!?!?
Thank you. I needed that. Can’t wait to see the actual golf play.
barenbrug hitting the tubes lately!
Never enough seed down on the turn Jordan! Loved seeing the Little Tools chasing you in the Jeep - lol.
Just freaking amazing! You do great work as always. Just straight up fire!
That was fantastic!! The new toro looks right at home too!
Damn that looks good. Miss the good ole days when my daughter would be out there with her power wheels. Cheers brother

Excellent work, looks awesome. Looking forward to the Tool’s Winter Golf tourney.
Going to be fun!
First year doing a rye grass overseed at 7.2lbs/1000, and I cut it last week at 1.25”. Cold front came through, and I had brown spots everywhere. Luckily it was the Bermuda going dormant, but my rye isn’t thick enough to hide it with that low of a cut. Back to 2” with the rotary, and noted for next year... thanks for the great video/info!
Yea I’m tempted to keep mine tall next year
I have been working on diging up the 6” around my place sifting out grapefruit rocks out of dead clay. Areator wouldn’t do shit but get wrecked. Finally coming in. People think im nuts. But 30 tons of compost later and months of digging and putting back fine grading. My dirt looks like nascar asphalt before i seed. Finally gonna dominate the whole street.
Another outstanding video! I put down Barenbrug RPR this fall up here in Wisconsin and it turned out great 👍
Awesome! Yes it is good stuff for sure!
*Wow emoji* times 1,000!
Looks fantastic.
Boom went the Rye-no-Mite !!!
Nice! Good job showing the progression. I'm going to need you to have Toro send me a GM too....lolol.
I would think for all the plugging you have done over the last 2 years Lesco would sponsor you ??? Let's Go, Let's Go, Letttt'sss Goooo. Hmm lol :)
Striperman, Good Friday afternoon to you , 32 - 36 Degrees Celsius for the next week , no rain but 500 to 800Kim’s down the coast they can get up to 600 mm of rain in the next 3 days . I think I’m living under a dome . 😳
That's is some serious heat on your Saturday morning 🥵
But you didn't mention my rye project with the other guys. Oh wait... Looks good man. Nice timeline through the whole process.
Beautiful spot and great tutorial also
Thanks! 🥰
Dang that looks really good!
Looking amazing!
That was a great video! Thank you!!
Beautiful piece of machinery!
Woah you got a brand new greensmaster wow
I wish I could live down south so I could play with the lawn like this.
I always sees with a drop speaker. They’re much more precise and get all of the seed where you want it. I always put down ‘‘twas as much as you’re supposed to just before the first snowfall.
I feel like right tool was not helping again
😂🤟🏼
Great video I always double the rate plus always aerator my 6 acres for we have no irrigation.
Last year I overseeded with 5 lbs per 1000. This year 10. Next year I am thinking 25 lbs per 1000
Booya!
@@TheLawnTools i have noticed a big decrease in bermuda recovery in the spring when I overseed with PRG. Do you spray the rye to kill it out to allow the bermuda to grow back in the spring?
@@willpotter8118
I sprayed it to kill it last year but a lot of it survived and just died when it got hot. I didn’t notice any problems but I have heard other people talk about it too
I did 20lbs per 1000 in Nashville, tn…. Sprayed it out didn’t all come out still dealing with a couple hear and there but didnt green up near as soon as everyone else’s…. Looked great all winter but don’t think I’ll ever do it again.
Dang! Looks great! I should have gone much heavier with my PRG on my putting green. Next year!
Looks great!
Thanks!
🔥🔥🔥
Great video
Thanks!
Nice work
How many days did you wait to reel mow your lawn?
Could you explain the transition (ie timing and heights)
Love your videos man. Any reason why annual rye wouldn't be a better option for a temporary lawn like this?
I think the opinion in the past had been that annual rye didn’t look as good as perennial but more recently I’m hearing that some annual varieties have caught up. I actually did kbg overseed this year.
That is so awesome you get to experience two different types of grass every year. Very unique. So how do you get rid of it with out hurting your bermuda?
I live in southern California. Rye will not tolerate the high heat temps of the summer and will die during summer months on its own. Where as bermuda will thrive during that time. You do not need to kill it off.. At least that is what happens here at home.
That’s why it’s called sissy grass 😂
@@lawn2learn lol
I've been using 25 lbs/1000 for the last three years in my lawn and I probably have about 100 people stop every year and ask me about it.
Booya
Wowser
What time of year did you throw this down? This is from a month or two ago right??
Don't you need to scarify to create the groves for seed soil contact, followed by thin top dress?
Looks like he scalped, scarified and threw down the seed at 20lbs per 1000 sq ft.
My take away was there is no need to rake it in or too dress since at that high of rate it should germinate by sheer numbers. Unless you see it not making good contact.
I didn't see a follow up on the monaco , do you recommend it over arden 15
I’ve never seen Arden 15 in person so, hard to say. I did do a follow up video on the monoco. But I haven’t reel mowed it yet
Just discovered your channel. Love the way that rye came out! Was that Tifway you you scalped?
😁👍🏼. Yes that’s Tifway
Whats your HOC on the rye?
I just love that new mower!!! It looks so compact from the side..
On another note, do you have some sort of relationship with that dallisgrass grass next to the T box? 😁
Nice work! Since you went perennial and heavy do you plan on killing it off next summer so it doesn’t compete with the bermuda or are you just gonna let it go dormant and wait for the bermuda to take over?
I will spray it to kill it in the spring. I’m tempted to experiment and not spray the tee box to see what happens though.
That’s a good idea. Both of your cultivars are from the same manufacturer so I’m curious to see how they would coexist and/or alternate relative to seasonal transitions. I say go for it
@@mociog
Well the Bermuda that I have in this area is Tifway 419. The Monaco is in a different section but that would be interesting to see as well!
@@TheLawnTools Oh ok. Well you’re keeping it all looking good man. I’ll definitely stay posted!
Got to see if you can get Pete Deny down to see you
What spreader settings did you use?
I never know. I just set it on something and go a bunch of directions until it’s empty
what month was this? November?
what is that mower used in the last scene
Toro Greensmaster 1026
Don’t freak out but I’m pretty sure your being followed by a black keep. Lol thanks for the vid man
Scalp, scarify, seed, top dress
No top dress from what I saw
Borderline show off 😋. Problems of rich people.. just kidding.. good work and inspiring. May be one day I get to own a lawn like this…
Why don't you put in some underground 4 inch pipe to drain water away from the house without washing over the lawn?
25 lbs per 1000 is crazy expensive but i bet it look nice
I'm trying to figure out the 20 lbs per thousand. It will choke itself out!
Maybe not! I just realized how short you were cutting
I'm also curious... who watches a video like this and then downclicks it?!
Can I play through?
Snow is upon many regions, to the dismay of those who care for lawns as you do. How about a persistent webcam of your lawn? That way people can see and recall good feelings arising from their own lawn. Like the fireplace channels on youtube. #lawncam #snowbegone
50lb bag went super fast i got another 2 50lb bag
Not first

Yes
