7:34 I would assert that Christian historiography was always rooted on Faith & Reason. The first verse of St. John's Gospel originally written in Greek asserts that "In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God". The term Logos in Greek is a rich word with incredible philosophical depth and meaning - 'reason', 'word', 'order' are some of the meanings, this statement was so profound that it brought together Greek Philosophy which had little to no understanding of history and Hebrew History which had limited philosophical depth and produced a synthesis called Christianity. This was the guiding light for figures from Augustine to Aquinas who synthesised Faith & Reason and upto the modern times when John Paul II wrote his encyclical Fides et Ratio. Faith & Reason goes hand-in-hand, never opposed, Faith is in service of Divine Intellect or Logos personified in the Trinity as Christ, therefore reason can never be in opposition to Faith. The Nominalists broke apart the Scholastic synthesis of Faith & Reason which lead to Fideism on the on hand best exemplified by Protestantism and Rationalism on the other, best represented by the Enlightenment.

11:54 Descartes is only able to appeal to a natural law because his Christian patrimony emphasised morality which means practical reason or practical logos which all men share, as all men were created by the Divine Logos. Catholicism has always opposed Voluntarism such as that of Islam or any other fideistic thought system which emphasised an arbitrary Divine Will.

12:35 Newton's work represented a truncation of logos in the sense that real progress was made in the realm of mathematical modelling in understanding 'universal laws' which is his way of saying logos of a cosmic sense but ultimately his philosophical world view turned out to be mechanistic i.e. without telos or purpose therefore the truncation and lead to a Deistic understanding of God
