    Two year old video but just watched it and there is something very satisfying and calming about watching the harvester cut those straight lines in the field..

      Tom Pemberton Farm Life have a couple questions. If I understand right, this wasn't your crop your purchased it from someone else? Was the chopper yours or highered? Do you feed anything like what we call silage which is chopped corn plants or sourgan which is a relative to corn we call it cane? What do you usually feed? Also do you mainly feed balled crops? I have notice in Europe you guys make bales and then wrap them is this basically wet hay, and other crops? Sorry for all the questions.

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll try answer them the best i can :)
      1- No we bought it off the field from a neighbouring farm
      2- We got contractors in to chop it, so it was theirs
      3- We feed a crop called maize, Which is corn and the hole plant. Its then goes in a silo pit like Grass
      4- We feed Grass, straw, meal (which is a blend of proteins and fats), potatoes, foda beat (when avaiable) and a feed called selco plus
      5- dont no what balled crops are sorry :/
      6- yeah wet hay but not to wet it becomes mush. We will be making them soon if the wether comes good
      I hope this helps Kory :)

    very good feed wholecrop our cattle love it but it is aparanly better browner don't ask me why but they say it is ( for fattening cattle anyway could be different for dairy )

    • @georgewalker2497
      @georgewalker2497 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom Pemberton Farm Life yeah don't blame you really cos we missed the window on 42 acres of whole crop so decided on crimping but the weather pulled us up on that so it ended up being combined but it was full of grass witch wasn't ideal

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    What was the reason for getting the whole crop? Did it have black grass in it?

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert Higgins we have lost 30acres this year to someone wanting it back in hand so needed more feed. Not to much really, maybe bits in one area 😀

    • @willfillms
      @willfillms 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Robert Higgins the science behind whole crop silage is that whole crop is a alkaline and grass/maize silage is an acid so if you mix the two together it balances out the acidic affect on the cows so therefore they don't get Rumen Acidosis, one way you know if your cows have Rumen Acidosis is that their breathe smells like Pear Drops

    • @lukeconway3454
      @lukeconway3454 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brendan Mccourt That would have been perfect if we had the space to put it on top. Didn't have the room unfortunately

    • @brendanmccourt382
      @brendanmccourt382 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A cousin of mine does that 2 cuts of silage 90acres each and 65 acres of wholecrop it's up some height cows go mad for it mixed with some other feed

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that would be the perfect way of doing it but we have to use all the whole crop before we can get some of the young stock in. They normally live where the whole crop is during winter. Its never easy
