Following MDTech's tutorial here, I solved my issue. Here was my case: *Problem* : Powering computer leads to Automatic Recovery Mode. *Goal* : Boot normally *Cause of problem* : Improper power-offs, ~x3 *Cause of cause* : Lack of power to PC when keeping intensive applications open for long periods of time *Solution* : Access Boot Menu (F11) and change default hard drive order *Notes* : It seemed Windows changed my default boot hard drive after my PC cut off from power multiple times in a row. After extensive periods of usage in high-demanding applications, my PC kept cutting power. Eventually I was presented with a blue screen on startup. When I changed the hard drive order in Boot Menu, however, my PC returned to boot-up normally.

Once I opened up the command prompt option I entered the following command to get into Safe Mode: bcdedit /set {default} safeboot network Once in Safe Mode I was able to fix the problem.
Hello.... I tried all 3 methods and none of them worked for me. I was hoping the last method using the Command prompt would have worked. At the very end of your instructions, I never got the Overwrite prompt to appear. Also.... on your example, below the line that said: Directory of C:Windows\System\config\RegBack, yours showed two lines that said , and then you had 5 File lines below those. However, for me, what appeared was only two line that said , and nothing appeared below them. So, when I did your instructions about typing the "copy *.* .." the message that came up on my pc said: The system cannot find the file specified. 0 file(s) copied. just ended up putting a Windows 10 installation on a usb drive and wiping my harddrive then reinstalling windows through the USB drive, lost all my files, but was the only way to fix my computer.
If this helps anybody out there I noticed a pattern with this error. I've reinstalled Windows multiple times and kept running into the same error.I came to the realization that installing the free version of Avast started causing the Preparing Automatic Repair loop. Looked it up on Google and yup! I caught an error in the bottom right task bar while installing Avast and just thought it was a fluke. Rebooted and then stuck. Reinstalled Windows again, installed Avast and noticed the error in the taskbar again. Rebooted, automatic repair popped up again. It is really odd since I have Avast installed on all my computers.
Basically what's happened is the last two Fall Creator's Updates have made Windows 10 outrageously glitchy and completely unusable. Windows came out with Windows 10 thinking it would fix the problems they created with Windows 8, and ended up continuing the Microsoft tradition of making every OS since XP even more glitchy, unstable and aggravating than the last. It should only be awhile until they come out with Windows 12 which will promise to be the worst operating system ever. They say Windows 12 will be so bad people will regret it even more than when they gave up XP for Vista.
The last one ALMOST worked. It said "system couldn't find the file specified." I did it correctly tho 😭 Edit: I did this and then pressed I think the "shutdown" button, or something equivalent, and it ended up booting fine

Try turning off your laptop (long press the power button), and as soon as it goes off, inmediatly press the power button again (turn it on). Turn it off as soon as it starts once again, and Repeat this process twice. This is what worked for me, hopefully it will work for someone else

Preparing automatic repair, blue screen, your computer ran into a problem and we will restart it for you. NTFS.sys failed. This will loop until the cows come home. There's no other options other than press and hold power to shut down, there's no known way to boot into safe mode. Infinite loop or long press power off are the only options available... Any ideas?
@@MDTechVideos basically it never gets beyond automatic repair preparations, just blue screens then reboots into oblivion. Many people seem to have the identical problem. I think the only way to resolve, is to put the HDD into an external caddy and attempt repairs. I'm simply stuck in a loop without any options. Fortunately I have an SSD with Windows installed in the same system and only need to disconnect the other HDD in order to boot.

What failed Ntfs.sys" This message is dsplayed for a a few seconds then the system will reboot, then after the usual startup routine showing BIOS logo etc, you get the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen and then the blue-screen and repeat.

I just installed Windows on a flashdrive from my friends of and unplugged the wires from my hard drive and went into bios and change the start up device to the flashdrive and started up the PC with the flash to download windows. Then when it was done installing I didn't do the "getting account ready" stuff and I turned the PC off and plugged the wires back into the hard drive and it gave me the option to delete everything and I did and I installed Windows onto the now fresh hard drive and it's fixed for me now
@@jomcueto980 sadly yes but I didn't do it the normal way. I installed Windows on a 16gb flashdrive and I plugged it in and went to bios. I unplugged the hard drive from the PC and I started the PC up on the flashdrive and once it started installing Windows I turned the PC off and plugged the hard drive back in and changed the startup device to the flash drive (usb) and I gave me a choice to install Windows and then gave me a choice to delete everything on the hard drive. So yes you will have to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows.

@@mohitkadian365 Whenever your screen got stuck at 'Preparing Automatic Repair', then shutdown your PC by using power button and restart it. Before the boot screen shows, shutdown it again then restart it. The problem will be resolved and you will see blue screen.

I see that this has worked with a lot of you guys, but not for me. It says here that I need to sign in as administrator to continue, but there aren't administrator accounts in this PC
So I was facing the same problem, I installed an old HDD into the new computer, I formatted the drive containing windows files of that HDD and then came a BIOS update. So, when the PC restarted, it was booting from the HDD with no Windows, then in the boot menu (the reparing loop was going on), I changed the order, put the SSD first which contained Windows installation... So, that can solve the issue if you did the same stuff as I.
At first for me it didn't even asked those options they are showing. Just loading only, they after 3 hrs it finally asked those options and i think i clicked turn off your pc but it didn't work. Again the loading came..but thank god it asked the options again so i am finally able to get it back. Hope the problem will be solved for you soon.

Great video!. I found system restore solved it. But I wasn't getting access to the automatic repair feature until I removed an external Seagate 4TB USB 3.0 HDD. So if you're having issues remove all external HDD first.
System restore isn't working for me as apparently i have no restore points at all, and whenever I try to make one it says it's only available in online operating system
I have an external hard drive and only had to desconnect it and it started correctly. I think that, as I desconnected it yesterday to play some music in my living room, when I connected the external drive again it lost configuration somehow. But thank you for the video! nothing worked. I went to system restore. There wasn't even a next option. I went to startup repair. It diagnosed my PC and said it couldn't repair my PC. I went to command prompt and none of my files showed up.

The command prompt won’t work past me putting in D: ??? All the files come up in the directory. But when I put in the cd \windows\system32\config it says my system can’t find the path specified. What else can I do?? What could I type?? :/

Same here I have both hp and lenovo and it hates windows 10 and driver updates
So I was facing the same problem, I installed an old HDD into the new computer, I formatted the drive containing windows files of that HDD and then came a BIOS update. So, when the PC restarted, it was booting from the HDD with no Windows, then in the boot menu (the reparing loop was going on), I changed the order, put the SSD first which contained Windows installation... So, that can solve the issue if you did the same stuff as I.

At first for me it didn't even asked those options they are showing. Just loading only, they after 3 hrs it finally asked those options and i think i clicked turn off your pc but it didn't work. Again the loading came..but thank god it asked the options again so i am finally able to get it back. Hope the problem will be solved for you soon.

Great video!. I found system restore solved it. But I wasn't getting access to the automatic repair feature until I removed an external Seagate 4TB USB 3.0 HDD. So if you're having issues remove all external HDD first.

I have an external hard drive and only had to desconnect it and it started correctly. I think that, as I desconnected it yesterday to play some music in my living room, when I connected the external drive again it lost configuration somehow. But thank you for the video! It made me think of what the problem could be! 🎀

nothing worked. I went to system restore. There wasn't even a next option. I went to startup repair. It diagnosed my PC and said it couldn't repair my PC. I went to command prompt and none of my files showed up.
