I remember once my class in 6th grade won a fundraiser for a pizza party. We sold over $4-6k worth of product (I dont remember the name or exact amount but its in the thousands) and we sold the most out of any other class. That pizza party? Two large pizza boxes to feed 26 students. Everyone got half a slice of pizza hut cheese pizza and a dixie cup of Hawaiian punch. We were also only given half the class to eat and finish said pizza. I've hated fundraisers since that day.

Glad you noticed right away. I knew when I saw how crazy it was to get anything from sales that I wasn't gonna do this. I was also very shy so no way I'd sell anything. Also thought i would never be a salesman because i wouldn't commit. I felt like I played myself but the school played the students.

From Montreal, we had this with overpriced, although tasty, chocolate bars, both in primary and secondary school. There was a legal loophole where a parent had to sign a "contract" of sorts. I had a friend who got two boxes and ended up eating all the chocolate himself instead of selling them. In the end the school got his mother to pay for it. There was another case where a poor kid forged his parents signature and kept them for himself, his parents refused to pay since they were against it, he got suspended.

One year when they were hosting it (this was back around 2009 so they were touting about being able to play the Xbox 360!!!111 wOaH!!!!), a kid in the 4th grade decided to bring in his or his dads copy of GTA IV and played it in the back of the limo (yes it was also a Hummer limo) for about a half hour before they drove back to the school. The principal only picked the top 3 people who sold the most to go and the other two were in grade 2 and grade 5 (i think??) but anyways, the 2nd grader ran out crying and told on the 4th grader kid and the 5th(?) grader kid because he thought it was cool and they took turns playing and it became a bit of a scandal for the school for about a month or so after the incident because GTA IV was ripe for attention about violent video games at the time from dumb parents and media people alike. I never did the fundraiser, but I thought that was awesome at the time (I was in Grade 6) and from what I heard, the 4th grader was going to get a suspension, but his parents got angry with the principal/vice principal and they dropped it down to after school detentions for a week, but it’s still a pretty harsh punishment for a literal game IMO… and I bet the 2nd grader was more pissed about how he never got to play anything than being exposed to GTA lmao

So when the time comes, go to the room and find the one thing you ordered and grab a few other boxes around it. You never know what youll get but its better than the cheap ass prizes they give out. I remember during my time in 6th through 8th grade, we used to sell cookie dough but since me and my mom were poor I never really did it, the prizes all were kinda lame, and all you got was an hour in a gametruck, now when I was in 3rd grade I thought it was cool but I always associated it
with kids who have extra money to throw around so they can just waste time, though those kids were probs doing better grade wise then me ahaha.
but we also had these book fairs which me and our 8th grade english class actually would go down to the library and work with the kindergarteners and that was fun.
Thank god we never really had that in high school, though what we did have is sex in the bathrooms, vaping, fights, drama, and pokemon battles at lunch ( That last one was all me) and drinking ranch soda ( which someone came in, but i got 25 dollars so fuck yeah) all in all, this video actually reminded me of the cookie dough stuff and also the yo-yo thing which I remember my mom buying me one and then me losing it at the end of the day ahahah.

I think the difference with Jump Rope for Heart is that kids aren’t selling anything, but fundraising for the American Heart Association to fight heart disease. It still had those prize goals that were basically plastic scams to encourage the kids to raise money, but because it’s backed by a notable nonprofit that actually funds medical research, it’s more of a good cause. It’s kind of comparable to what I remember mini-thon was in high school-a school-backed event that involves exercise and fundraising to raise money for research of childhood cancer. The difference between those child labor fundraising scams that idubbz is talking about and Jump rope for heart is that you actually know where the money is going to at the end of the day.

Ha! Did you know in most states there's a "Youth weekend(s)" for deer/big game hunting seasons? Where kids under the age of 16 kill and gut animals? Adults are actually not allowed to hunt during this weekend(s) without a child present. I remember distant uncles and cousins asking me if I'd go with them so they could get another chance to bag an extra whitetail under my name. Most parents usually have their kids' kills processed by a professional, but many teach the kid to process their first kill themselves. It's still a really big tradition, one I intend to introduce my children to as soon as they're ready.
