I’m from TX and I’m Mexican/American. Losing Selena was literally devastating. She was the first super star I ever saw who looked like me on tv. It was inspirational. A true legend.
I think she would have been in Michael Jackson’s and Whitney’s league if not more

That's how I got introduced to her music. It was so deserving of the Grammy.
Golden Hour became my comfort album. I basically listen to it everyday for a year now. I don't know what kind of magic Kacey put in that songs, but is doing a lot of good for me. I get calm immediately with her voice. She is helping a lot right now.
Being Mexican, I grew up my entire life with Selena and her music. She really brought Our music, sounds, and culture to the Mainstream American/English market. Her music genres include Cumbia and techno-cumbia, some Mariachi, ballads. A true versatile queen!

Kacey is so unique. She's never been afraid of talking/singing about real things in society. Her music and voice are so amazing. Also she has definitely that aestheric of classic/modern that she mentioned and that's great. I love you Kacey ❤️
I rarely comment but Lovers Rock is THAT album. For me, it is the crowning achievement in Sade’s career and will never be replicated. It’s so wonderful to hear Kacey call it out specifically. I never get tired of listening to it, truly a magical album. I definitely see how it has influenced Kacey.
I mean I normally can’t stand country music but I absolutely love Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour is one of my top favorite albums of all time

I love the influences she has. Although Selena's music was influenced by Cumbia music which is also the name of the dance style she performed. Mariachi musicians don't typically play cumbia music.

I love how Kacey mixes genres and pushes the boundaries. Her down-to-earth personality and avid support of the LGBT+ community make me love her music even so much more 🌈 The ‘Oh What a World’ tour was my last concert before the pandemic, and I wouldn’t have it any other way 🦋
I know Kacey speaks in glowing terms about these four great women, but i hope one day Kacey comes to know that she is the greatest of them all, great as they are. they are not Kacey. Kacey is the greatest of all time.

Also give a listen to Canadian singer Larry Evoy "Here I Go Again" (from 1977) (former lead singer of Edward Bear "You, Me & Mexico" from 1970 also "Last Song" & "Close Your Eyes" from 1973) which almost reminds me of Parton's "Here You Come Again"!!

Selena is the Queen of Tejano, yes, but she was also an accomplished mariachi vocalist and absolutely did incorporate mariachi instrumentation and arrangements to tejano music. Kacey is 100% correct there. I think _No me queda más_ is the most obvious and literal example of Selena infusing tejano with ranchera (mariachi).
