I admit there's some nostalgia because this was one of the earliest NES games I played, but I recently bought a copy of this and I still like playing it. Not for long sessions of course, but for a few minutes at a time it's a lot of fun. The gameplay is unique, and I enjoy the relative simplicity and the atmosphere of these early NES titles that were just starting to experiment with free roaming adventure. I like the music too. Unfortunately the reviewer didn't seem to understand the jumping mechanics, and that's really core to the gameplay. Learning to control your jumps in this game is as important as learning to use the arm in Bionic Commando. If you understand the controls then it's easier to deftly avoid monsters even when they home in on you. It almost plays like a shooter in slow motion sometimes, minus your ability to shoot back. This game is still scoring oriented, it's definitely a transitional game from the era of scoring to adventure. As some people mentioned you're supposed to collect the bombs in a certain order to score more points. The strange thing I've noticed is that during the scrolling stages, there is still a difference in the sound effect when collecting bombs that implies there's a certain order in those areas as well, but in those areas the next bomb doesn't have an animated fuse. You'd only learn the order by listening to the sound and memorizing. I don't know if that's intended or it's a bug, and I haven't noticed if it actually affects scoring in those areas.
Same, I'm so tired of everyone thinking Tecmo Bowl was their only game. Like, they made Mighty Bomb Jack and Ninja Gaiden and a Bunch of other stuff and whenever I bring up retro games to someone the first thing the other person brings up is either Dig Dug or Tecmo Bowl.
This game rules. It's what makes me glad to have been a teenager back in the 8-bit days.
I love the fact there are 4 Different endings.
TH-cam in the good ol days!!
I loved this game as a kid!
The hardest NES game i've ever played

The first video game I have ever played. It has killer OST and hard as fuck. So good.
there should be a way to scroll down the page without touching my laptop, im getting really pissed of with it....
I had this game around 15 years ago and only until now I figured out the cartdrige was broken, enemies couldn't kill you and it bored me to hell.
@LupusRexRgis You should get them to stop, that will hurt your eardrums after a while.
If you don't know it now is.
Tecmo screams Ninja Gaiden to me.
