No other FM sounds this lush! It almost sounds analog. The effects can be a bit muddy and cheesy if overdone, but are definitely usable in moderation.
The Opsix, as much as I love it, feels and sounds like a dehydrated toy in comparison. Don’t get me wrong, with programming and processing the Opsix sounds great too, it just doesn’t sound as organic as the SY77. I’ll always have both in my studio!
Great demo of a classic synth! One of the last great synths of the 80s!

I have the TG77 rack and an Opsix + two Volca FM.... i love all of them 🙂

To my ears, this is the true digital counterpart of the Matrix 12...
DX-1 and 5 bend their knees in front of the 77...
Always tempted to get the TG...
    Nice demo as always...!

Last TG77 I saw was like £1k. Because of that, I started looking into the SY99. It's better AND cheaper. Sure it's way bigger, but like... I need a good controller anyway

@@autumnbrushtail SY99 was for Enigma fans... lol
Have you heard the factory demo songs...?
Too big form factor for what it offers (beyond the 77)... sample loading was a huge improvement those days, but for giggin' nowadays, any MODX is better...
If you prefer keyboards, go for the 77...

    • @autumnbrushtail
      @autumnbrushtail 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@kaiwetronic I'm not gigging any time soon. Also I think the additional sampled waveforms and effects are just enough for me to consider it over the 77 personally. I've looked into both and while the 77 is still a fantastic synth, I think the 99 suits my wants just a bit more. =w=

      @@autumnbrushtail Ok, mate...
I hope you enjoy the 99... that's the main thing...
We're only in it for fun...!
      Cheers...!

@@autumnbrushtail For whatever it's worth, if you get a Sector101 Datablade it allows you to load custom samples(or your own) in to an SY77/TG77, as well as make the process easier. I can't recall but that's nearly everything different between the 77s and SY99 other than some aspect I can't recall, maybe carrier signal modulation? I'm always on the lookout for any of these 3 I can have join with my SY22.

Loved it.. had to sell it many years ago due to moving to another country. It was my favourite synth by far.

Still have it, marvelous machine! So many versatile possibilities, after all these years even today competitive in music production and sound creation.

a lovely demo of a classic - in terms of video and music! I had the budget version, the SY22, and was very happy with it in these times!

Thank you for this very nice demo. I got me a SY77 myself today(!), and am very much enjoying it. I hope it will make friends with a Novation SL I just bought. I am hereby a subscriber and will check out the rest of your videos, your homepage and your music. Now I've heard this demo twice in a row :) Cheers!

Such huge subtractive sounds that threaten to break your tweeters coming from a DIGITAL SYNTHESIZER! That’s without the vector control of the 22 & 35 or the TG modules. And, here I am in Dec. 2022 only chasing that waveform-based electric grand piano simulation which briefly succeeded the different Rhodes tones from the 80s.

Soundcloud with the SY77 in action playing JMJ covers : Equinoxe 7, Calypso, Equinoxe 4 and 2 ....the SY77 really does sound like a very good analogue synthesizer ( John Ford, I multitracked these pieces from the original scores into Cubase around 2004, well worth a listen to hear the SY77 on full song, very powerful synthesizer

I now own the OpSix as well as SY77 and even just a pure sine wave on the SY77 sounds worlds better. Wish Yamaha would have included octave transpose buttons and an arpeggiator, but it's such a great synth. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you. How do you like your Op6?

    • @huntergalloway3944
      @huntergalloway3944 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@MIDERA A lack of transpose buttons is the only thing keeping this from being my master board. I’ve actually been using my Opsix despite its crummy keybed simply because it’s so fast with deep sound design. I’m not primarily a keyboard player and mostly rely on sound design, so it’s helpful to have my main sound design engine always under my fingertips.
Still though, the second I find a better solution I’ll probably end up chopping the keyboard off of the Opsix and turning it into a DIY module to save space.

Such a wonderful video with a great sounds! So cool demo performances you played here! Some of them reminds me the great Tangerine Dream of 80-90s.
Thank you for sharing us these programs!
Can't wait for the weekend to try them on my SY77.
P.S. Your synth looks almost like my one - I installed the floppy emulator too and still didn't changed the original display to the new one.

I don't comment much on YT videos, but this is fantastic! Very well done. This synth has great depth I never knew... Perhaps consider sampling your patches for those who don't have a SY77 and want to purchase them to put into their sampler.

Beautiful ❤. Some sounds reminds me of Tangerine Dream albums from end of 80s, begining of 90s. Like albums: Lily on the beach, Rockoon., etc..

I have the SY77 with all the original cards. But i need to replace the floppy with the emulator and fix 1 key that stopped returning.
This video reminded me that i need to do those things very fast! XD

Some of the demo pieces remind me of Tangerine Dream in the Eighties. They sound really analogish, which may also be a result of the effects device. Some saws sound analog, which may be possible, if one uses the sound engine in an additive way, like we do for organ tones? My K5000S is good at creating basic analog waveforms from partials and slowly changing frequency space envelops.

Incredible demo! These patches don't sound near as good "naked" - your FX treatment takes them to a whole other level. I only wish you had listed the specific patches you used at each point! Excellent work 😁👊🏻
