The Maprang (Marian Plum) | Bouea Macrophylla | HD Video

  • Visit my website at www.junglejoel.com - bouea macrophylla is commonly known in English as the marian plum, egg plum, or plum mango. Here in Thailand, it is referred to as the "maprang." It has a plum-like texture but is actually more closely related to the mango.
According to Wikipedia, the maprang seed is edible as well, but the seed I tried was quite bitter. The young leaves are also edible and used in salads. Even though it's not a plum, it's easy to think of it as a "tropical plum."
    Please rate and comment, thanks!

It's my one complaint when eating one of these. They seem to be all skin-and-seed - not much else. Thanks for watching!

LOVE them, they are only available in April and May ( I too live in Thailand) I bought a kilo yesterday at our local market. You can peel the skin off very thin like the Thai do and then they are even better imo :)

Have you tried boiling the seeds? That might make it more palatable. The same can be done to seeds of jack fruit and Durian.

+Marcus Tham I'm not sure about the health claims for this fruit. One thing to be aware of if you want to import it is that is has a pretty short season.

Yes, this fruits in Vietnam is nothing alike mango or whatver. I don't know why western think it taste similar to mango or mangosteen??Crazy strange!!!
This fruits, in Vietnam in the past when I was kid. They make like...jam with honey or sugar, salt (depend on personality taste or menthol) it help throat hurt itchy.
Btw, only eat this fruits when it ripe, when it not ripe enough still young it taste sour & less auroma smell. But when it ripe, it turn out amazing!!!

pleasedo NOT share your taste level by NOT recomending a particular fruit or taste according to you...the seed of the marian fruit has one of the most concentrated liver cleasing elements available, you can blend it, dry it,make tea along with the leaf and srems, etc...so please educate your self first before NOT recomending something...and keep the good work :)
