  • Great Artists are not born. They are created by using their pencil as a tool. Here are 5 different pencil techniques that will create dimension on your page. With these 5 pencil techniques you will be able to create texture on hair, textiles, stones, and just about anything you want to render. In this video I will be demonstrating using prismacolor pencils, but you may use any pencils with these techniques.

    UPDATE! BIG BREAK THROUGH! Several hours after watching this found me coloring -- what else, right? -- and getting frustrated because yet again my picture on the page was so one dimensional! I colored one picture, then another. Both throw aways. Literally! Then it was like in the quiet of the early morning hours I heard your voice telling me to start using the five different pencil techniques you covered in this tutorial. "OK, that's strange," I thought, but I'll try it. And boy! I colored my very first 3D rose and it was like you could smell it! Well needless to say I didn't go to sleep and the morning found me so excited that I woke up my wife and she just couldn't believe it the completed picture! She told me that maybe I listened to my Angel! Thanks again for all you do! I'll never forget this experience!

As a 41 year old mom growing up and going to school I've only owned two sets of 12 piece pencils my whole 12 years of school I decided this is my turn and I wanted to do this for myself my hubby helped me do research on different colouring pencils the pros and cons of the difference between them and bought myself a student artist set of Lyra Graduate pensils cant wait to start colouring tomorrow

I think this is my first time I have viewed such a detailed video so patiently demonstrated by an artistic colorist. .It is so appreciated to hear how long it takes to get the proper visual effect and where it is most suitable ... eg which stroke is best for the clouds and which stroke is suitable for illustrating fabric texture on clothing.. . You are a true "Mensch ".and a lovely artistic colorist besides having so many other creative talents ....Keep happy, healthy and have good fortune for yourself and all your loved ones. This is the first of your videos to enter my world. Not only are you inspiring and uplifting, your voice is charming and makes me long for the east coast! Edited to add: This isn't any of my business, but have you ever been evaluated for hypermobility? I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which is a connective tissue disorder characterized by hypermobile joints among other things. Your hands are a lot like mine. I'd like to recommend compression gloves! Your hands will hurt and swell less, and feel more stable. If you ask your primary provider to evaluate you for hypermobility, and refer you to an occupational therapist, you can be evaluated and fitted for ring splints, which will be a world of difference in your hands and arms. Especially when you color!
    I'd be glad to talk with you more about this if you're interested! Hypermobile Spectrum Disorders are underdiagnosed and often written off as arthritis when actually untreated connective tissue disorders can lead to osteoarthritis as a consequence of the disorder, and can be reduced by proper treatment and preventative care. They're not curable, but compression and joint bracing can be life-changing if this is something you have.
    Thank you again for this skill tutorial! You've really enhanced my coloring skills and I appreciate it!

      Use a very soft pencil for the circular stroke. You will not get scratches and will colour more area quicker. Don't press hard either. Light strokes. Prismacolor or Derwent Coloursoft are best for backgrounds and large areas.

  • @alicia7240
    @alicia7240 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really like this video and have watched it several times now. I'm confused, though, because of so many other youtube videos suggesting to always have a sharp point on your pencil. Particularly, while using circular motions, to have a sharp tip. Do you know if this is just a preference of the artist? Also, I see a lot of tutorial videos showing linear strokes going back and forth, rather than straight, individual lines. Are linear strokes and hatching two different things? Maybe I should practice instead of asking so many questions, lol.

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Artist preference. I find if you have too sharp a tip while doing circles too much pigment is deposited into the layer. A slightly duller pencil will give you a lighter layer and it's easier to blend it out.

    Ok morning humor.. don't spew your coffee.. I'd seen this before but was lured by the title . yes! I need techniques. So I turned it on, and it was already a few minutes in.. the part where you were doing the jacket.. still sleepy my brain kicked in just as I saw in big letters across my screen :
    HAt CHING and thought .. oh OK, she's punctuating this segment like the sound of a cash register completing the transaction...
    CHU- CHING! OR HA CHING "How cute", I mused.
    Close enough.. long pause.. then
    it sunk in.. oh yeah. Hatching..
    Was i surprised..no.not really. I'm old and quickly losing gray matter. Nothing I do surprises me any more.
    I decided to have more coffee.
