This man is by far the best Phantom I've ever heard and seen. Superb voice and amazing acting... In the "All I ask of you" reprise, one moment you really feel pitty for him at his sorrow, and the next you are terrified to death by his anger.
It’s a shame Colm never returned to the role after his run in Toronto. He should’ve done the role again, heck he still can at 74. He still has the voice
This is the incredible Lisa Vroman as Christine and I think she's incredible. Her voice is the perfect blend of musical theater style with classical technique. She makes it seem effortless!!!
A concert in aid of the Royal National Institute For The Blind and the Combined Theatrical Charities in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen of the United Kingdom and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Performed: Sunday 7 June and Monday 8 June 1998 at the Lyceum Theatre, London Phantom:Colm Wilkinson Christine:Lisa Vroman
+Ashley N I am with you all the way on that one. Did you know Lisa has her own solo album of classic musical covers? If you were not aware. I can not recommend it enough. Her voice truly dazzles! :)
@L1C1T1: He was still doing "Les Mis" on stage when he did this. This was a special performance, as he retired as the Phantom years ago. He wasn't going to shave his beard for a day and have 25 minutes to grow a full on for the "Les Mis" performance later in this production.
you are correct about colm being the phantom in the workshops, but michael crawford is the original phantom because he performed the part in the first professional production. hope that helps.
I Like Colm in this - his voice is in that uncomfortable place between seductive and frightening..exactly as the phantom should be - an edge of danger about him..and lots of vulnerability ( a strength that you feel can collapse into insanity). I love the rooftop scene..there we really get a glimpse of the 'damaged' side of the phantom.
I did not know that Lisa was the Christine for the entirety of the nearly 5 year SF run in the 90s. Surprised anyone's played that particular role for that long
well those of you who have seen the current phantom, ramin karimloo, would agree that he is just BRILLIANT. he brings his own fresh spin to the character as well
To the person below who wrote that Colm was the original Phantom, that is actually incorrect. Michael Crawford was the original Phantom along with Sarah Brightman as Christine. Andrew Lloyd Webber cast Michael after hearing him sing at the same voice teacher as Sarah who was Andrews wife at the time. Colm is wonderful though.
jeeeee... if it really is an E6, it's almost out of the human voice space! I think that the hihgest note I could ever belt was a G5. I need more practice! Btw... this Raul is Michael Ball?
Colman wilkinson's beard gets me EVERY TIME. I'm just like is he serious. You've got the mask on. You've got the cape. She's in a CORSET. Shave your freaken beard!!! Lisa vroman kicked ass on broadway, and she rocks here too.
@MsXxxKittiexxx he is suppose to look a lot older than christine however colm was playing valjean in canada and also later in the show so he needed the beard so with out the beard it wouldnt look so odd
It would have been a bit hard for him to shave it off considering he was also playing Jean Valjean on the same night. I think he makes a better Jean Valjean than a Phantom. The acting is fantastic but his singing is a bit too rocky for the part. I wish they got Michael Crawford in...
I remember feeling like the Phantom on several occasions- I can relate to his sadness and pain... I have felt like him many times! When the Phantom yells the word 'GO!' He's like: 'This should teach Raoul to give back Christine to me, I'll try to kill him by crashing the chandelier'! (chandelier falls) Phantom: Damn, time for plan B!
@MyArtIsLoved731 well I am sorry, but singing a song in a concert is very different to performing in a show, because in one you sing as yourself - as Colm did in concert, and in the other you perform as a charcater as Michael did in the show. ergo Colm may have sung the songs first, but Michael was the original Phantom because he was the first to perform the character. People need to differentiate between concerts and shows. Big difference.
Wow, if the Christine is Rebecca Caine, and Phantom is Colm, and Raoul is Michael....AH! Originals of Les Miserables!! And it's weird because Colm played Rebecca's father and now her lover? Whew, kinda creepy, oh well. Good job!
Isn't Colm something like how Sean Connery would sound if he could sing? But I think he pulls of the Phantom quite well, like he would of course, being the awesome singer that he is. It's his interpretations that I sometimes find questionable or at least to me doubtful.
That's going by the movie, which, considered by most Phans, is far from canon. I wouldn't trust the train wreck of a film made by Joel Schumacher to determine how old the Phantom should be. Colm Wilkinson did this role very well, though.
Well, to be fair, the orchestra *should* follow the performer's lead but in this case he just sang so quickly... You can hear them trying to catch up. XDDDD
Michael was the Original Phantom - only an idiot would deny that. and depending how you look at it - Anthony Warlow was the first one to sing Dr Jekyll - he created it on the concept album that said I have absolutely no problem with Colm - just people making ludicrous false statements.....
@audiesgirl the director is shumocker(sp) known for his kinky tastes to get in the way of the source material. I'm sure they also changed Erik to a hunk for marketability, but most likely shumocker likes men and makes his movies to reflect said like...examples batman and robin's infamous batnipple scenes, Erik's not no distorted face...etc and no, Im not trying to bag on gays....there was just no way for me to write that 2+2=4
Here here! Colm is an okay Valjean but he should not touch Phantom with a ten foot pole. Warlow owns this role. No one comes remotely close to the passion, the pure emotion he injects into it. Too bad there aren't any video clips of him as Phantom around otherwise more people would understand how unbelievably good he is.
is sorry that's so not true Colm Wilkinson IS the Phantom he just suits the role so much and Micheal Crawford is great But Colm Wilkinson is just the better. And Crawford is better as Barnum Than J.Dale
This man is by far the best Phantom I've ever heard and seen. Superb voice and amazing acting... In the "All I ask of you" reprise, one moment you really feel pitty for him at his sorrow, and the next you are terrified to death by his anger.

💀💀
He had to play Valjean later in that concert, so it would either be a beardless Valjean or a bearded phantom.
This is the incredible Lisa Vroman as Christine and I think she's incredible. Her voice is the perfect blend of musical theater style with classical technique. She makes it seem effortless!!!
Colm is awesome!
Chills, chills...... chills. Through the whole thing.
I personally wish they had Michael Crawford do the role here. Then again, Colm performed as the masked man in that very theater for many theaters
Yeah yeah this is great too thanks but IF ONLY we could watch original Sarah Brightman version from the real show…..
Colm Wilkinson= what a legend
Crawford is amazing in the role and I'm sorry I never got to see him perform on stage. Would like to have seen EFX too.
This is Colm Wilkinson.
Ugh Lisa Vroman is amazing :'D
+Ashley N I am with you all the way on that one.
Did you know Lisa has her own solo album of classic musical covers?
If you were not aware. I can not recommend it enough.
Her voice truly dazzles! :)
Colm Wilkinson is the Original Phantom, Jean Valjean and Dr.Jekyll in Jekyll & Hyde the Gothic Musical and just brillient in all three roles
Great performances.
I wish I could watch it once again! So amazing!!!
Colm can sure belt out that G#!
Has Michael Ball ever played Raoul before? I just realised how good a Raoul he would make; he has the perfect voice for it.
jc19940 He was back in the day.
Loved this
Colm was actually the oiginal phantom because he did the worshop at sydmington! I personally think he kicks Michael Crawfords butt!!!!
MC is the best, i love GB too! This girls amazing!
obviously, panu q magiging close kung d p kami nagkikita... idol q c Michael Crawford that's why he'll always be Phantom for me...

The Phantom in 9 minutes! Just saw it in Louisville and was wondering what that high note Christine sang. Played it on the piano and it's E6. wow..
carsonky i
Il faut entendre se moment de chant par d.autres artistes pour apprécier la puissance la justesse de ce monsieur et sa partenaire . Maginifique.
definitely agree...MC is FOREVER PHANTOM
exactly. We have to sympathise with the phantom just as much as root against him.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOUx1000000000!!!!!!!!!
I agree, I think the phantom's voice should be deeper. But Gary mauer will always be my favorite =)
@MyArtIsLoved731 in the musical, Christine is 18 while Meg is 15.
well those of you who have seen the current phantom, ramin karimloo, would agree that he is just BRILLIANT.
he brings his own fresh spin to the character as well
i like his "Go!" here
To the person below who wrote that Colm was the original Phantom, that is actually incorrect. Michael Crawford was the original Phantom along with Sarah Brightman as Christine. Andrew Lloyd Webber cast Michael after hearing him sing at the same voice teacher as Sarah who was Andrews wife at the time.
Colm is wonderful though.
so funny seeing valjean as phantom! but fantastic job!
Colm Wilkinson's Phantom is so warped- Luvitt!!!
@seattleoperaguy actually the song was written for Sarah Brightman originally.
jeeeee... if it really is an E6, it's almost out of the human voice space!
I think that the hihgest note I could ever belt was a G5. I need more practice!
Btw... this Raul is Michael Ball?
Ye
@maestas96 I'm pretty sure that's Lisa Vroman. She played the part in San Francisco and on Broadway.
It's nice to have the captions, I just can't understand Christine's words at the high notes.
Colman wilkinson's beard gets me EVERY TIME. I'm just like is he serious. You've got the mask on. You've got the cape. She's in a CORSET. Shave your freaken beard!!!
Lisa vroman kicked ass on broadway, and she rocks here too.
Colm played the Phantom like in the VERY first workshop of this show...The More You Know!
Woooow Jean Valjean with a Mask!!
definitely agree, MC is PHANTOM...
@MsXxxKittiexxx he is suppose to look a lot older than christine however colm was playing valjean in canada and also later in the show so he needed the beard so with out the beard it wouldnt look so odd
yah. it's E6. In the G-clef, it's E3, in the grand staff, it's E6. Check out the original sheet music.
I wish Colm would shave the beard but other than that noone can beat him in vocal performance for power and gentlness all in one
@MrJORGERAMOS123 you should hear anthony warlow, he was in the australian production and he is incredible, the best there ever was :)

I think he makes a better Jean Valjean than a Phantom. The acting is fantastic but his singing is a bit too rocky for the part. I wish they got Michael Crawford in...
Ah, thank you.
@MsXxxKittiexxx They just twelve years apart! we can clearly see that it is in his forties and he is in his fifties.
yes he is
omg me tooo! only if you kick me below the belt......
best phantom iv seen so far is rob lorey
I Am So Looking for this Song but than with Ramin,,,Can`t find it annywhere,,Does Someone have that version?
Where was "All I Ask of You" between Michael Ball and Lisa Vroman?
is the girl who played cosette in the TAC in here it looks like it
actually Sarah Brightman. Later with Caine in Toronto.
I remember feeling like the Phantom on several occasions- I can relate to his sadness and pain... I have felt like him many times! When the Phantom yells the word 'GO!' He's like: 'This should teach Raoul to give back Christine to me, I'll try to kill him by crashing the chandelier'!
(chandelier falls)
Phantom: Damn, time for plan B!
Hey look coco; our honest opinions upset the masses.
@MyArtIsLoved731 well I am sorry, but singing a song in a concert is very different to performing in a show, because in one you sing as yourself - as Colm did in concert, and in the other you perform as a charcater as Michael did in the show. ergo Colm may have sung the songs first, but Michael was the original Phantom because he was the first to perform the character. i swear is the phantom the man who plays thhe old guy in les mis (VIDEO) ?
yes
Wow, if the Christine is Rebecca Caine, and Phantom is Colm, and Raoul is Michael....AH! Originals of Les Miserables!! And it's weird because Colm played Rebecca's father and now her lover? Whew, kinda creepy, oh well. Good job!

He says yes not bitch but I did have to check a few times to make sure
Great concert! But I just don't know about CW as the Phantom...it's like watching Jean Valjean vacationing in London...
That's going by the movie, which, considered by most Phans, is far from canon. I wouldn't trust the train wreck of a film made by Joel Schumacher to determine how old the Phantom should be.
Colm Wilkinson did this role very well, though.
I feel like I'm watching Jean Valjean in a white mask
At least I knew that.
Colm is wonderful but I started laughing at the beard. The Phantom does not have a beard. :P But he is still wonderful.
Is that Rebecca Caine?
Michael is the original phantom
LOL i never noticed he had a beard i just thought he had a big chin
No that was Lisa Vroman..
@sirspamsalot2 omg yur right
Lisa Vroman is singing not SB
why phantom is here like 60?
colm wilkinson is a god...
Sarah Is The best for this song
Sarah You're The Only one
Well, to be fair, the orchestra *should* follow the performer's lead but in this case he just sang so quickly... You can hear them trying to catch up. XDDDD
Michael was the Original Phantom - only an idiot would deny that.
and depending how you look at it - Anthony Warlow was the first one to sing Dr Jekyll - he created it on the concept album
that said I have absolutely no problem with Colm - just people making ludicrous false statements.....
Who plays Raoul here?
Michael Ball!
!!!That's super cool, especially to see both Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball performing the Phantom pieces onstage
What is "Hey Mr. Producer"
MC's still the best phantom ever!
@MsXxxKittiexxx um. okay. colm wilkinson is an amazing actor and singer. care to explain why you think he is a pedo...?
who is christine in this???
Oh my God, that's Colm Wilkinson. I perfer his Les Miserables character instead. Michael Crawford is better. But Colm's voice is good.
hehe, just an opinion, he looks like jack nicholson here...

Oh.. the beard kinda puts me off. Great vocals though :)
@koffiemokie I do, contact me x
Who exactly is this?

Too bad there aren't any video clips of him as Phantom around otherwise more people would understand how unbelievably good he is.
phantoms don't have beards
I'm sorry, Michael Crawford is the definitive Phantom. Colm was okay as Valjean, but he just seems to be trying too hard in phantom.
yah.. the phantom to wear a beard? duh..
is sorry that's so not true Colm Wilkinson IS the Phantom he just suits the role so much and Micheal Crawford is great But Colm Wilkinson is just the better.
And Crawford is better as Barnum Than J.Dale
