    Two things:
When a Korean says they only speak "a little" English, it's usually way more than you'd expect, sometimes to the point of being fluent.
And secondly, as far as hospitality goes, HoJun is not the exception but actually quite common in Korea. The people here are some of the most kind, generous and hospitable I've met in 25 years of traveling the world.

I actualy have seen this concept while I was traveling in Austria Europe.
The people who do this are carpenters, electric technicians/engineers or just craftsy individuals.
They get around by hitchhiking and then asking strangers or small business owners (mostly hostels) if there is anything they can repair in exchange of a place to spend the night and/or food.
I have met one guy who did this, he even got as far as Thailand. He was from Germany so quite a long way.
They spend as much time as they'd like in the certain region (if possible) and are completely free.
Btw yeah they have tools on them when they are traveling and wear traditional carpenters costume when looking for the next ride.

    First, I'm Korean.
So I can understand why Koreans think this is rude.
There are many white beggar in Korea and they're begging to travel.
The reason why they are begging in Korea especially is
many Korean people are usually kind to foreigner.
They use it and earn 20 dollars in two minutes!
So Koreans can see this rudely.
    But this video is different.
I don't think this is begging. Cuz he explained
his situation that he was doing challenge.
This video is just showing Korean hospitality!
Watching this videos, I never feel anything rude.
I can't speak English well but I just want to tell,

@@moistydoooood I think he meant young people who spend more than they have whilst travelling with a mindset that things will work out if they just rely on the kindness of strangers, which is pretty selfish/rude and thus frustrating for those that know what they are doing. Also, this is a cultural thing, not a race thing, there are non-white people who will act similarly when travelling in their 20s.

    • @user-iz1xp4jg2x
      @user-iz1xp4jg2x 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

But is it really that rude. You can make some awesome new connexions travelling this way. Btw I’m not saying that people should be taking it for granted; they should at least pay a small amount of money for their meal and the disagreements and totally accept that people can say no. But again I don’t think that it’s necessarily a bad way to travel. People should also have enough assurance to say no and that’s not just a culture thing.

The reason why is because right now, Asia is seeing a wave of "begpackers". Westerners (mostly white ppl with dreads lol) who travel to Asia with no money and beg on the streets for money, so they can continue their backpacking travels. This doesn't sit well with the local people, because 1. Some of these countries are quite expensive and people don't get paid well, 2. The "beg packers" mostly come from first world countries, which have strict immigration laws, and for Asians it wouldn't be so easy to go beg.
So they see it like, how come you can come beg over here?? but if we were to do the same in your country, we would be deported??
Thomas isn't a real begpacker, of course, but perhaps the girl thought he was. There are a SHIT ton of begpackers in Hong Kong and the locals really dislike them.
