Yup he is incredibly well developed! Beautifully well done character with growth and Development! This show does such a good job with their characters development :)
tomura is such an interesting villian. he doesn't start out a big bad villian like so many other villians, but rather, we get to see him grow as a person, just like izuku is. also I find it amazing that he literally goes up to the main character, his opposite and his enemy, and asks him what he's doing wrong. no taunting or anything, he sits him down for a real conversation and asks a genuine question. I loved seeing tomura fail multiple times and actively try new things and try to find and correct what he's doing wrong, and he actually does learn. not only that he needs a conviction, but actually he learns how to care for his team and be a better leader. as someone who loves villians it was so cool to see the villians have their own story and arc and have many parallels to the heros
I love how much Tomura and Deku parallel each other, they are the inverse of one another and we both watch them grow at the same time, so when the final battle between Shigaraki and Deku happens it’s much more impactful than just us rooting for the good guy.

I REALLY love Shigaraki's character, to me it is by far one of the most well written villains in recent manga/anime. While he doesn't necessary bring anything new to "being a villain", rather he offers a new perspective of it. All of his growth from AfO to become his successor is destroyed as he aims to be something else, the sheer simplicity of his goal is what gives is so much depth and power. All reasons to be "evil" are nothing more than just excuses that cloud his true desires. Complex plans, justification, attention, all of that means nothing to him now. In a world filled with heroes, Shigaraki, a man who could not be saved, saved himself. But what saddens me now is how his character is currently being reduced in the series. I don't blame Horikoshi, rather I believe he was forced to. What I mean by this is by passing the torch of main antagonist BACK to AFO. Shigaraki met his potential as a stand alone character, and as a main antagonist. He became something more than a "villain", he's not some thug on the street, or some dastardly schemer, he becomes himself and simply does as he pleases without anything holding him back just for fun. His role in MVA and the War arc really show off how much he's grown, and by an extent, shows how much Midoriya has to grow to be able to face Shigaraki, someone who has been a parallel to him since the beginning. But with AFO taking the reigns just before the final arc, and possibly even during it, the story shifts from Midoriya and Shigaraki, a story of parallels between the "true hero" and the "true villain", to Midoriya vs the cunning AFO, the "hero" vs the "demon king". And with Midoriya wanting to save Shigaraki from AFO, and Shigaraki being imprisoned by him, Shigaraki's character is no longer being explored, there are no parallels between him and Midoriya at this point, Shigaraki becomes a foil character for Midoriya in his fight against AFO. All that development going down the drain for AFO. Shigaraki's character set a really high bar which Midoriya was supposed to meet, but instead of reaching new heights to that get to that bar, instead of focusing his attention on Shigaraki, he's only looking at AFO. While the current arc is doing wonders for Midoriya and the class, by focusing on AFO before and possibly even during the final arc, Shigaraki isn't a prominent character anymore now. As I stated before, I don't blame Horikoshi, if anything I believe he was forced to do this as Shigaraki's entire character is considered "controversial" in the East. His editor which allowed MVA to happen being replaced, and MVA being considered "taboo". If I had to say, Horikoshi was probably forced to switch the role of main antagonist from Shigaraki to AFO, and is doing his best to make it work with Midoriya at least. I know he also wants to end the series soon too, but I just can't believe anyone would put that much effort in making parallels between two strong characters, just for one of them to get replaced and become a foil for the other to defeat a rather "traditional" villain. While I do find AFO entertaining, I don't think he really suits the role of main antagonist for MHA. Shigaraki had the potential to become one of Shonen's greatest villains, especially in recent years. In his respective story he could've been one of the best characters, all he needed was to maintain his presence. However, due his lack of presence in the current arc, and AFO being the main focus of the conflict, and for various other current factors, that potential can very realistically be wasted. His character could've really elevated what it meant to be a "villain" in modern shonen manga/anime. But rather than explore new territory for shonen manga, Horikoshi seems to have been forced to take a more "traditional" approach to the story. However this doesn't mean that I haven't given up hope. Horikoshi has done a lot considering his restrictions, and the series is still far from over, he might just be able to do it with the time he has left for MHA. Because from what I can tell, MHA is a story about heroes, villains, and the people that give them reason. Not just heroes.
i still think shigaraki is still the main antagonist AFO is another step in his progress as he stated he wants to surpass his master in the war arc. the recent developments remind me of final fantasy 9 with garland using kuja as a tool ( just like AFO is using shigaraki to obtain OFA) only for him to thwarted by their own creation. this struggle with AFO is shigaraki making the power "his own" just like deku had to make OFA his "own" power even when deku was taking to the vestiges they were focused on shigaraki and building him up as a the "ultimate evil" and not AFO its the thing with horikoshi's writing style characters do not develop in a linear fashion in MVA he liberated himself from his past by destroying his fathers hand only for him to slip back to his pre-mva state after nana's hand was placed on him allowing AFO to take control over him. killing AFO will be his final obstacle i don't think the editor change effected him tbh he has had shigaraki's character arc planned from the begging from his backstory to him obtaining AFO was forshadowed in the story and AFO was already meddling with shigaraki before the editor changed horikoshi himself has stated the the main elements haven't changed from what happened in heroes rising movie where the antagonists show a strong sense of comradery which doesn't really suit AFO and spinner questioning him leads me to believe that his next step is learning to rely on the league similar to deku's character arc
@@yodutikka893 THIS!!! This is exactly what I've been saying for so long now!! I agree 100% And if I may add to that, from the recent chapter, AFO wants to merge with Shigaraki to become an all new identity. So with this, identity has played a big part in this arc, and the previous arc with Deku. So this could be very similar to Deku in that regard, who was always trying to be like All Might all his life, and tried to be like him by doing what he did in his prime. He tried to do everything on his own, and pushed everyone aside to do it himself, but needed to find an identity for himself, and his friends helped him. Now it's Shigaraki's turn to find out who he is outside of his master, and become his own person. I see Shigaraki's current fight with Stars and Stripes to be his equivalent of Deku's Nagant fight. So if that's the case, with these recent chapters setting up a reunion between the League, I think it'll be similar to Class A helping Deku when he was struggling, and they'll help Shigaraki get control back. I believe that this is all just another stage of Shigaraki's growth, just as the last arc was another stage for Deku's. People seem to forget that Shigaraki's entire character arc has been about freeing himself from the shackles of his past holding him back and becoming the next king of villains. The hands are representations of that, and when he destroyed his hands, that was essentially him destroying what's been keeping him restrained, for a lack of a better word. Destroying the first hand as a child was the first example of this. When he destroyed that hand, it was him destroying the morals that were preventing him from going through his urge to destroy. And when he destroyed the rest if the hands in his fight with Re-Destro, he wasn't letting his past bind him, and instead accept and embrace it. But the fact that one of them survived, presumably the fifth one AFO gave him, being Nana Shimura's, there's only one more thing holding him. That being AFO himself. So in short, the final hand represents the hold AFO still has over Shigaraki. But once AFO is out of the picture, that hand is the last one to go, and Shigaraki will truly be free. Or liberated if you will.
Tomura is honestly one of my favorite villains he is not a one dimensional villain he is the embodiment of everything wrong with the hero society he fell through the cracks of society cause heroes turned their backs on him when they were supposed to help and protect everyone so he wants to tear down society and build a new one where there are no heroes a "just" society. He seems to also be the most human his character development with the League of Villains is actually wholesome like a family it makes you almost wish he had a different path and happier life and it's so sad he went the way he did and you can see why he went the way he did with his backstory I honestly hope the Shigaraki and League of Villains altogether get a some what happy ending
@@user-yz3wf1iu8x pretty sure the villains will probably lose deku and him might just kill each other or he might just turn him into the force of good again like it is in Naruto
The more I watch the more I like Shigaraki and the LOV even more than I like the mains. You take Shigaraki and you put him up next to a "hero" like Endeavor or a villain like Overhaul and you can clearly see that within the swirls of depravity and true evil that exist in that world, he is far from the worst thing in it.
Can we talk about how absolutely brilliant it is to show that Tomura has a scratching disorder??? Because I've heard that a way to cope with trauma, some people scratch their eyes, which is a way of saying "I don't want to see anything anymore." and it's just: Imagine being at that point where you literally have to scratch your eyes out just to escape seeing an absolute horror happen to you. It really gets you feeling bad for his kid form. Horikoshi really knows how to write his characters! It's just a small detail, but it's SO well done.
Real, I noticed that he would scratch his head and around his eyes when he was still Tenko and before the incident with his family, but after he killed them he moved to his neck, it's a strange thing I only just noticed recently but it's so fascinating (also what I mean is that in the flashback of him being held by his mother he's scratching around his eye, and when his father is yelling at him he's scratching the left side of his head, but after he kills them he scratches his neck)
I don't usually get moved by backstories or origins, but this one horrifies me, i can't imagine the amount of fear this child had endured seeing his family die before him and he knows he did it, but he didn't mean to(Exemption being his father)
shigarakis deveomplent from a boy who had a boring goal like all other, defeating all might which gets quite boring when every villian wants to do that. And now he grew into the symbol of fear. THIS MAN CHANGED DEKU FOR A WHILE. THIS GUY HAS ALL FOR ONE. THIS GUY IS THE MOST POWERFUL IN MHA. he earned my respect and has become my fav.
I actually got invested in his backstory when i first saw him, i was like "where did those hands come from? why is he so creepy? why is he scaring the shit out of me without me hating him at all?"
i really hope tomura overcomes all for one. with mhas focus on its villians and them having a whole arc, it's kinda become like two seperate stories, with tomura as one of its protagonists with izuku as the other. all that training, growth, and learning would've been for nothing. imagine if nana or the first one for all user taking over izuku and using him for his own goals. seriously if horikoshi doesn't have tomura break free I'm gonna be pissed
The way I see it, Shigaraki's entire character arc has been about freeing himself from the shackles of his past holding him back. The hands are representations of that, and when he destroyed his hands, that was essentially him destroying what's been keeping him restrained for a lack of a better word. Destroying the first hand as a child was the first example of this. When he destroyed that hand, it was him destroying the morals that were preventing him from going through his urge to destroy. Or liberated if you will.
Can we talk about the sheer Power that Shigaraki has with his Decay quirk alone?? He can literally kill anyone he wants. He doesnt even need the all for one quirk
Ah yes a broken young man with a sad background that literally was in a group called "The League of Villains", destroyed a city, has murdered people and attempted to murder lots of others. Yeah he's obviously a villain.
he is a villian and a broken young man at the same time. while his backstory is very sad and I want to punch all for one for grooming and traumatizing tomura while never allowing him to truly heal from his past, tomura has still murdered hundreds of people and wishes to destroy everything. while I really wish tomura was taken in and given a reason to live besides destroying everything and go to therapy, that doesn't make much narrative sense and I think there's no way a redemption arc will work unless he dies immediately after, but I think ultimately he's too far gone and will have to be destroyed by the heros
"Oh no, if Tomura has All For One then I have no hope" Is what I would say but Deku is getting stronger so don't worry guys, even if you're on the villain's side or hero side just know both are stronger now and IF, they clash then one will end up dead.
Well it’s going to be tomura who dies since the opening literally says “this is the story of how I became the greatest hero” or something among those lines, he might get fucked up in the fight though, like all might did, or even die, but as long as he stops tomura he will be “the greatest hero” but tomura won’t succeed, which kinda sucks cuz he has far more depth then most characters in the story, I kinda wanna see his plans come to fruition.
@@skillissue6232 Same, sometimes I wonder what would happen if the ending wasn't like the intro at all. For example, just say Deku goes to fight AFO not knowing that Tomura has it. It would be a big fight and since he's already lost to the element of surprise he needs an advantage. Instead, the Gods said "Sike" and brought the classmates to "help" him fight. Fighting to protect his friends he falls short and is defeated.
@@javeenna824 yeah I’m interested in that type of ending, becoming the worlds greatest hero doesn’t mean surviving the battle, making the greatest sacrifice for the sake of the world would already make him the greatest hero, deku doesn’t have to survive the battle to fit that criteria.
That's just what happens when you bet against the house of fate. The house always wins because the game is just rigged. This is why tempting fate is always a bad idea.
Imagine if a pro had actually done their job and helped tenko. We wouldn’t have the badass villain we have, but instead a badass hero. Plus a lot of the (manga spoiler) damage of the war would have been lessoned
The league of villains consistently show they aren’t sure where there aligned. They’re just people and they have some of the best designs. Twice is literally best boy
Tomura is most likely to die because pro hero's are going all around defeating villans and he probably won't be able to get used to all for one in that time
7:34 i am so not lying, even this comment is late by months, when amagi said that tomura scratched his neck, i actually scratched MY OWN neck at the same time
All of this could have been avoided if nana would have retired early and raised her kid- that's kinda crazy to think about. If nana would have retired and raised her son shigaraki wouldnt have done all of this.
The thing is she can’t Afo was after her because of having ofa even tho we don’t know much what happened to her husband it’s been stated that her husband was killed because afo was after her and if she retired from being a hero she would been caught off guard and might have been killed or Kotaro get killed by him so abandoning him is her only choice

Nah I believe villains will win ;)
Weeb
@@user-yz3wf1iu8x pretty sure the villains will probably lose deku and him might just kill each other or he might just turn him into the force of good again like it is in Naruto
The more I watch the more I like Shigaraki and the LOV even more than I like the mains. You take Shigaraki and you put him up next to a "hero" like Endeavor or a villain like Overhaul and you can clearly see that within the swirls of depravity and true evil that exist in that world, he is far from the worst thing in it.
Tomura:”Hm...cold.”
*proceeds to destroy half of city*
Seeing a child filled with so much hate when he killed his dad was so heartbreaking
But the reason he scratches is because he wants to kill
It's a ich to kill right
Real, I noticed that he would scratch his head and around his eyes when he was still Tenko and before the incident with his family, but after he killed them he moved to his neck, it's a strange thing I only just noticed recently but it's so fascinating (also what I mean is that in the flashback of him being held by his mother he's scratching around his eye, and when his father is yelling at him he's scratching the left side of his head, but after he kills them he scratches his neck)
He's the most complex villian in MHA
I actually got invested in his backstory when i first saw him, i was like "where did those hands come from? why is he so creepy? why is he scaring the shit out of me without me hating him at all?"
Same here
And then after seeing it you get both creeped out and sad because he really needed love and care and all he got was abuse.
imagine asking shigaraki how your family died
shigaraki:I accidentally kill them
Not his abusive father he didn't lol
I feel like that may be a common issue in the world and there are therapist for it. Problem is no one helped him 😢
i really hope tomura overcomes all for one. with mhas focus on its villians and them having a whole arc, it's kinda become like two seperate stories, with tomura as one of its protagonists with izuku as the other. all that training, growth, and learning would've been for nothing. imagine if nana or the first one for all user taking over izuku and using him for his own goals. seriously if horikoshi doesn't have tomura break free I'm gonna be pissed
Me 2
The way I see it, Shigaraki's entire character arc has been about freeing himself from the shackles of his past holding him back.

Can we talk about the sheer Power that Shigaraki has with his Decay quirk alone??
He can literally kill anyone he wants.
He doesnt even need the all for one quirk
Tomura isn’t a villain he’s a broken young man who has a sad background
Exactly
Facts
@@thefluffyaj4119 nah deku gonna use naruto ultimate technique, talk no jutsu
If Shigaraki took more care of his appearance he actually would look quite handsome
what do you mean, he's already handsome

@@kemmybelleuwu I dont know what's wrong with saying a character is handsome 😐
I remember shigaraki’s words when he was getting pulled into the warp gate, he said sensei or teacher
Always loved tomura 💙 even before he became super powerful. He reminds me of me an my friends when we were younger.
This makes me feel even More emotionally attached to Shigaraki.. poor baby 🥺
@@javeenna824 Boi deku still has dat plot armor
@@javeenna824 yeah I’m interested in that type of ending, becoming the worlds greatest hero doesn’t mean surviving the battle, making the greatest sacrifice for the sake of the world would already make him the greatest hero, deku doesn’t have to survive the battle to fit that criteria.
@@skillissue6232 don't say like this i hate when people's say that hero's will always win

when amagi said that tomura scratched his neck, i actually scratched MY OWN neck at the same time
Oh, well I now I know that the hands on shiggys body is his FAMILYS hands 🙁
All of this could have been avoided if nana would have retired early and raised her kid- that's kinda crazy to think about. If nana would have retired and raised her son shigaraki wouldnt have done all of this.
The thing is she can’t Afo was after her because of having ofa
even tho we don’t know much what happened to her husband it’s been stated that her husband was killed because afo was after her
and if she retired from being a hero she would been caught off guard and might have been killed or Kotaro get killed by him so abandoning him is her only choice
