Helluland, Markland and Vinland are actually part of the Americas, modern-day Canada, it's not what Iceland used to be, those areas were founded by Leif Eiriksson and his brothers. The little village model you see there is L'Anse eaux meadows, which is in modern-day Newfoundland @ 04:00. Iceland is further east of Greenland. Hrafna Floki was accredited with its founding, that's the reason for the statue in his honour.
That is certainly one of the most variety minded museums from viking ships to t-shirts to turf houses to sheep. You make history so much fun no matter what it is :) It's wonderful to be able to enjoy the beauty of the world, thank you for sharing it with us :)
Very interesting place to visit. The map of Markland,Vinland,at around the 4 minute mark is actually the east coast of Canada, not Iceland. This was the route that leif Erickson took to discover north America .
Was there August 2021 with Viking Ocean Cruise Line. Great trip. I saw a National Geographic video of the ship's trip years ago...I am a Viking descendent with Duputen Constriction. Met a cousin is everyone in Iceland related to Leif Ericsson?
Wow ! Love Viking history ! That ship was immense ! Loved the walk onto the Viking ship ! Absolutely love Scandinavian history ; great job Jordan throughly enjoyed our Icelandic trip ! Thanks 👍🏻🦁😎🎥🎬💙🐑🇮🇸👍🏻
May I ask why? I´m a norwegian with "viking blood". I grew up 2 km away from The Oseberg Ship, and the main viking city of Scandinavia. What excites you about it?
We just got back from two weeks in Iceland in October. This was one of our last stops and, yes. When you walk in it smells like the best BBQ joint you've ever been in! I had watched this video in 2020 before our trip got scuttled. What amazed me is the amount of written documentation exists of places, who lived there and when. (The Book of Settlements going back to triple digit years!) The settlement museum in Reykyavik that was built right over an excavation site downtown was really cool too. The most amazing fact I found out was that Iceland used to be forested. More amazing was that they were clear cut over time by people with hand tools! (I personally thought the best lamb stew was at Hotel Skogafoss. The best lamb chops I had were at the Rostin Restaurant in Gardskagi.)
Definitely my treat for today! The ship was fascinating-- I can't imagine having to spend weeks traveling out in the open like that-- those Vikings were/are hardy stock. Thanks for educating me today. I learned numerous things that I never knew before. You have to keep travel vlogging-- these are my vicarious trips. Thanks, Jordan.
the ship looks very harsh and exposed way to venture across tumultuous seas. Im sure Id get my Led Zepelin t shirt like totallysoaked within about 5 mins.
It would be cool to go during winter for the Northern Lights! Viking Museum sounds awesome- can’t wait to watch this- starting...Now! 😊 And re: the sword “There can be only One!” Sorry, I know, not Scottish but- swords...
The Viking boat looked big. But not until you went up the steps could you see the true size. WOW. .... AHH the little goat was Jahs understudy for the day... 😁
awesome history video! no way I would go on a ocean voyage in an open ship like that. I recently visited Replicas of Columbus ships and I thought they were small.
@@DazewithJordantheLion That is exactly what the Norse saw when they looked around outside a 1,000 years ago! So what you were seeing, they saw the same thing. I was thinking that when you were looking out of that big window at the sea and rocky shoreline.
What a great video Jordan, thanks for posting this one. Living in Minnesota we are Viking obsessed. And that was cool to see....and yes that stew looked so yummy!
I've been doing a lot of research on my dna and found out I'm directly descended from many of the people who were on flokis trip to Iceland I share incredible amounts of dna with almost all the people from that trip who were tested but floki himself im so trying to learn more about this group of people so if you know where I may find out more about them let me know. thanks
Hahaha.. had 2 reverse i jumped a vlog ahead. Felt like i was physically in the vike ship. The sheep may hve been doin there own version of baaabaaaaranne (beach boyz). G8 viking vlog.
Floki or Hrafna-Flóki is in the show Vikings! You can even see him go to Iceland and settle there. Vikings is one of my favorite shows, if not my favorite of all time.
Awesome trip and reproduction of viking ship actually proven seaworthy! The stew looked delicious. What's this about a girlfriend? Is she the girl you net at your friend's pool party in LA??
+Devon Zastre that lady evwntually almost made me miss my plane, but i decided not to include that. I asked her to call me a taxi, like I had the 3 places before it.. she called a friend of hers and it took them 40 min instead of calling a legit taxi that would have shown up in 5 min..
Very good video even after 5 years. Loved it! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to walk that ship :D

The dragons head is on the ‘bow’ of the ship, the mast is what holds the sail up 😉👍🏼
Nice thanks Icelandic Canadian here .
