Frankly, it's your videos on the music industry and not the reactions that got me hooked on your channel. There are a ton of people reacting to music and while I appreciate that you bring your own perspective to the reactions, reactions by you tend to get lost in a sea of other reactors. Your perspective on the music industry and how touring works (particularly for smaller bands) is pretty much unique. Whether or not I watch your next reaction video to Lorna Shore or Spiritbox or whatever, you can bet that if you put out one of your takes on the music industry, I'll definitely watch that.

      💯% agree!
Personally I found the insights into the industry some of the most interesting content on TH-cam.
We got to find out stuff that was generally kept quiet behind the scenes.
All the stuff about Ticketmaster, live nation, tour costs ....
      Give us more of that.

Same here. I don't even bother with any reaction videos by any people. The only reaction to music that matters to me is my own. I don't need someone else to tell me what I like or dislike.
The music industry videos are interesting to me because that's a subject I wouldn't know about otherwise, since I'm not in the music business.

    • @Darth_Rapture

Usually if I don't know the song I'll watch it on youtube first, then watch the reaction. A first time listen can definitely be dampened by the pausing and talking over the music, but I really like the other perspective on it. Plus, I enjoy trying to guess which parts will illicit the best reaction from the content creator reacting to it.

My Metal channel is essentially dead but I still love posting metal music reviews. I did get a comment once that "Metal was getting too negative" so he doesn't watch to many metal videos outside of his own playlist. But I will say, life has spun up the turbo on many people just not hanging out on TH-cam as much - also and more so, algorithm changes by YT has been a big change to "reaction" results. Or....... people are just board with me :D

A lot of the problem is YT makes it a popularity contest. Then they give you a reward, the more popular you are, then screw you over by changing the rules, so you have to try harder in the popularity contest, to get the rewards you were getting before, then they screw you over by changing the rules again. And it turns in to a rise and repeat, because you have to chase the numbers. It's no wonder people get burn out.
There is a small UK youtuber, who quit, he put up a video stating the reasons, burnout, it had become a full time job, which he did not was, as he already had one, and it was not fun any more. Then 6 month later he came back, as part of him missed it, But he was not going to play YT game any more, he was going to do, want he wanted, when he wanted. And no longer cared about the money from YT. He is still going today, and if a video only get 50 views, he's not bothered, because he's enjoying himself again.
There are people out there, myself included, that will watch your videos, because it's you. So I say take a break, stop playing the game, and when/if you come back, do what you want to do, like the small unsigned bands, as there is no point in playing a fixed game, that's going to make you ill in some way, just to feed a big machine that does not care about you, just the money.

TH-cam was never supposed to be a career. The only google decided to start monetizing channels (it wasn't when it first started before the buyout) was that it needed to get user engagement up. So they offered creators a means to make some money off (a tiny percent) of their ad rev from search. They did this to drive people to the site. Early youtube was filled with excellent channels and videos by people who just wanted to share what they made or vlog for the sake of vlogging - then it morphed. We got channels becoming mini networks and signing other creatives under them with horrible contracts so they never actually got paid. One of the earliest forms of this was a reaction channel who tried to trademark the word react. They got sued into oblivion luckily. When people started seeing you could eventually make a living (when ad rev was high) everyone flooded into the site to try and get their 15 min of fame and money. Now because it has been happening so long - the ad rev is basically nothing so you have to basically trend hop or copy the top folks. Google has always done what is best interest for google and this includes youtube, people use to make crappy single page landing pages to game seo when that paid out well so top search was utter junk - google would do an update and poof those folks were gone until they figured out how to game the next update. So if you get into this game in order to try to make a career you had better be all in and have side gigs because it is not sustainable.

It's really just the way a majority of channels that focus solely on one thing go. There's only so much that can be said and that can be done with one particular subject. People's interests change, both on the content creation and on the consumption side. It's similar to many gaming youtube subgroups and you often can spot particular niches dying out en masse. It happened to Minecraft youtube, WoW youtube, and to many more. As a creator, if you don't branch out at some point you're either gonna burn yourself out or become irrelevant when your audience moves on from your niche and you can't get enough new blood in. With music genres it's obviously different on the latter part than for games due to the difference in 'shelf life' but the overall principle still stands. What's going on in metal youtube rn is by no means unique and the lessons are already known.

It was 2 reviews per week. 4 albums were reviewed each time then 2 were written about and submitted for publication. It was really cool the first seven months then it wasn't. I ran out of things to say. I was so burned out that I would fall asleep listening to music while trying to review it. I had to walk away even though I didn't want to. The problem with making a job out of your hobby is that eventually it becomes a job. And on TH-cam there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff that a lot of people overlook, as well as the way TH-cam works makes it necessary to work too hard to get a steady paycheck. The problem with reactions is also that you can't explore stuff on your own time. You're kinda forced to stay behind the curve. If it's music or even series or movies, you can't watch it the moment it comes out, you need to make sure you're filming it (which makes it even worse for movies since you can't watch it in theatres). You're basically setting yourself back in order to get paid. I mean, you can't even buy a CD of a band you like, simply because it deprives you of content to react to. It becomes a chore, and that's what kills motivation.

I understand it. as a consumer of all forms of music (mostly country music and all XCore's of metal) i don't have much time to even watch this kind of content, anymore because i'm too busy working all day every day to feed myself and pay the bills. it's like we're all running out of time to consume content while keeping our lives in check. i'm glad that you are being open about creating it, Tank. been a fan for years and i will continue to be a fan of your content and I will continue to watch it for as long as your put it out there. shout out to Finn, too. i absolutely understand why he decided to start backing off of content creation. all i want for anyone anywhere is that they are happy doing what they do and if they aren't feeling it much anymore, i want them to be able to drop out of it without people trashing them over it. we all have a life outside of youtube and y'all creators are put under way too much pressure by people who feel like they are entitled to your content. it's absolutely absurd to think that this or that creator owes anything to viewers. y'all don't owe us anything at all. i've always viewed the creators of content i enjoy watching as if they are doing a lot of work for not much gain. to simplify it, i have always considered content creators to be doing a favor for their viewers by putting that content out there. watching burned-out creators is a bummer because it becomes obvious to viewers that the content is being made as a "chore" instead of for "fun!". i'm in full support of creators who decide to take a step back or even quit entirely. I just want everyone to be happy with their life, at the end of the day. Much love to you, Tank! 👊

Hey Tank, Thanks for the good video. There is nothing wrong with taking a break or wanting to do something different.
I truly believe that 2 things make someone successful. 1. Follow the formula. 2. Have fun. If someone has fun doing something it is contagious no matter how good or bad it is. But when it stops being fun to keep the same engagement with people then one usually has to switch to the formula. And the formula leads to burnout. If you can survive without the “rewards” (money or fame) than just keep making something that is fun and the people will stay and have as much fun as you.
Keep having fun. Keep it real and I will be back.👍

I agree with what had been said; however with Elizabeth zharoff, I wouldn't necessarily call her a reactor, still a content creator. How she creates her content is interesting as she talks about the voice and how the singer performed. It's from her own unique perspective as an opera singer, plus doing a paper on harsh vocals, realised videos on the vocals of Will Ramos.

Absolutely. And Elizabeth and Kirk do a fantastic job with the channel. Keep in mind, it's their full time job. TH-cam at this point is not mine. I have no idea where this channel would be at now if I had never gone back out on tour and put 100% of my time into it like I did when I first started it. As big as hers? Most likely not, but you get the point, hopefully.

I only like reactions when someone has expertise to share. Your channel was always worth listening to in order to hear feedback on gear and the touring culture. Agree on the comment that some viewers only follow bands they like and get mad if you say anything negative. That sucks and means you guys cannot be honest on how you feel.

I feel for you man. With how fast your channel had grown, it would’ve added a lot of pressure to put out content since it became your main income.
I also started to feel like it was a job and had to motivate myself just to make videos when I stepped away a few years ago.
My channel never got huge so it didn’t really affect anything if I stopped so I can’t imagine how it felt for you to want to switch from reactions to the content you wanted to do so you could have fun doing this and not worrying about if it would pay off or not.
I’m always happy to see the channel evolve and no matter what content you do I’m always interested.

Quite frankly, I love when you pull out the lesser known bands and give me something new to listen to. Same goes for when you bring up smaller bands I've heard of because it makes my heart happy that they're getting their name out there.
While I don't care about drama and feuds and the like, I do appreciate you bringing us current topics about what's going on in the industry, and being real about it, and giving us like-minded people a place to come together and discuss current events.
I know a while back you did a video about Rooler and hardstyle and mentioned maybe getting creative and dipping your toes into hardstyle yourself; I know you're a busy dude, but I'd be interested to see if you've taken that any further and if we can expect TanktheTekkno anytime soon.

Great albums out this year. Bridear, Lovebites, Nemophila. Hagane EP Life goes on gave me more drive and inspiration, in June, then any record ever for me. After I lost my mother, and a friend in February, march. One of best records ever for me, and I’m 56. Hagane song Hero Time, Sakura writes and plays a thrash style riff, while drummer Junna is playing a Speed, Power metal drive.

You called this a "lazy" piece of content, but wouldn't one also be able to argue that it's efficient? Reacting to others' reactions feels the same as reacting to songs and music videos, in the sense that they are both based on someone else's content, so I fail to see the difference, and I see no problem with it. And regarding creating content from Twitch streams... Why not kill two birds with one stone? I think it's smart.
And yes, I realize that intro was self-depreciating humor, and I read way too much into it. 😆

It's just the nature of both content creation and music in general isn't it... It's all fashion and when that trend changes, as a content creator (or business of any kind) you also have to change with trends or you'll become obsolete or a tiny niche. Metal TH-cam has been riding a wave and we all love it, but things have probably reached saturation point and it will absolutely die off a little, then likely come back again in a few years.
Your channel is about Tank, not just metal and that's key. You have a loyal audience and they'll stick with you regardless of if/how you pivot in your content to maintain channel growth. I really appreciate and respect the fact you're actually IN the industry and can give professional insight which 99.9% of reactors can't.
I admit to being a snob with reactors and content creators, I need to know what that person is doing/has done in their life to speak with authority and think they should be heard and taken seriously. You're a great guy, a credible voice and source of info and opinion so you're stuck with me I'm afraid!

Honestly there is no mystery or originality because the millions of music related TH-camrs beat this dead horse to death….. its like the same stuff, music is released, got the reactors and reviewers, then covers just the same scripts over and over, so not only is people listening to the songs and albums, they get a million youtubers spewing the same 💩 about them causing the magic to fade quickly. Then the gear review side is even worse because it comes out and just everyone is talking about the same thing for weeks which to me is so not genuine because almost all the time they were given or paid to say stuff, just to clarify, not all but most…. This has been going on for years! I love heavy music and will continue to, but i find just going back to discovering these new bands and artists without all of the “recommendations” at least preserves the magic, mystery, and excitement of it…..
youtubers would like to think they are helping the scene but they honestly drained it dry, for their benefit
