    I've always loved seeing mourning doves skittering and cruising around. They always seem so sweet and the sounds they make are unique and beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to take care of such a young and precious soul.

    So interesting that through their entire childhood they look like a completely different species of dove

      Does she had a kids or she live alone... She always build a nest and lay eggs and feeds kids. This is her life.. It will be unfair to let her alone without doing this.

    Yes, I still have him/her… Doves are very nice birds!
    Got him/her early July, looks all grown up now and is getting very vocal. I have 2 other videos if it, one where he was just starting to eat seeds and in the other one he is taking a bath. Search for "dsflores dove" to find them.

    Adorable. We feed wild birds, including lots of mourning doves, Cardinals, wrens, bluejays, bluebirds, titmouse, sparrows, etc. Today our neighbor's cat got one of the mourning doves and tore off her tail, bit holes in her abdomen, injured her wing, and bit holes under her wing. We put betadine liquid on the sores after bathing her in warm water. Then we gave her bird antibiotics and are hoping for the best. I am sick of people who let their cats go outside to attack wild birds. I bought two "cat scares" and keep batteries in them, go outside often, and shoo the cat away. Please keep your cat home and not let it wander over the neighborhood killing birds. Thank you.

    I still have him, he is almost a year old, looks like an adult and has all his feathers… Search for "dsflores dove" and you can find the other videos of him. At times he does have an attitude. (You need to respect his space.)
    He is not afraid of people (except for one neighbor, he freaks out when he sees her…) and does not pay attention to our cat, till the cat tries to paw at him (no claws, only furry paws).
    So we can't really let him go. :(

    I’ve had a female mourning dove for 6 years now. She looks almost just like this guy! She’s so tiny. We took her in after she was shot in the wing. She has permanent wing and foot damage. Taking care of her gets a little challenging, but we love her so much. Idk how long she’ll live, but she’s a happy glutton haha. Do you know what specific kind of mourning dove he is? Most mourning doves I see are much lighter in color like a brown gray, but my bird is all dark brown like yours looks here. She’s also very small. I don’t think she ever got bigger for some reason. She also doesn’t lay eggs, which is weird. We don’t know if it’s due to her getting shot or if she was born that way. We know she’s a girl because we’ve confirmed it with bird experts and she never coos.

      Most birds will not lay eggs without a mate. I did have a female together with this one and they did lay eggs which they eventually broke. :(
      I found the female slightly injured, she could not fly well, she did look young. Both got along for several years and then she died for no apparent reason.
      The one on this video is close to 9 years old.

    need advice. found a baby mourning dove in the yard all the other babies were half eaten mom not around cannot just put her back out as we have stray cats roaming . so i saved it ....so far so good feeding by hand and also giving water by eyedropper so small has to be only 3 weeks old.. has feathers and is adorable and bonded already with me. i need to know how u trained it to eventually eat seed. please any instructions will help i am a wildlife squirrel rehabber , i have a african grey bird and a cockateil but as for wild birds i am lost especially when to young. thank u.. hope to hear back from you.

      if the bird is very young, it will not eat seeds. Pet stores do sell a type of bird baby food that is powered and you mix with water. I would fill a small balloon with it and have the bird stick his beak into it and he would eat well. the balloon was a small water balloon type, but it is not inflated, just wat fits in it. Squish the food up as the bird eats it.

    • @dsflores
      @dsflores  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      as he got older, I would put small seeds down, and use my finger to do a pecking motion while making some whistling sounds which got his attention and he would peck at what I was pecking. I have a video which shows that. search for "dsflores dove", think that will get the other dove videos I have.

    It's a clump of dry "baby food". At this time he was starting to eat seeds, but was mainly eating bird "baby food". The stuff would drip and stick to his feathers. Hard to clean off of him! So he developed a clump on his chest.

    I need to post a video of our Mourning dove watching this video, it is super cute he/she keeps trying to eat the seeds on the screen! Ours is also around the same age as yours in the video, are you planning on keeping yours? I know all about the rules on keeping a migratory bird ,but its totally imprinted and I just cant throw it out we have lots of cats around (of which it could care less) and It would kill me to know it wouldn't survive a week, im sure you know how we feel :/

      It was bird baby food that got stuck on his neck feathers.

  • @dsflores
    @dsflores  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That is the same problem I have. The silly bird is not even scared of the cat…
    Do you know if yours is male or female? This one is male… He like his space. Invade it and get pecked or wacked by his wing. Search for "Attack Dove!" (th-cam.com/video/LmNqyLwhAhw/w-d-xo.html) Even if he is the one that lands on you shoulder, lean your head closer to him and whack. He also seems to be romantically attracted to feet...
    I now have a female I found injured, and they seem to get along.

      Do you know how to tell if one is male or female because we never got to know.....rip

    • @dsflores
      @dsflores  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aprilboza5945 I have him and had a female too. But it is not easy to tell boy vs girl. He was a bit more aggressive than the girl. If he doesn't want you close by he will peck at you.
