#GTNCoachesCornor Have the endurance but no speed. Have a pace of around 2min30 per 100m. Yet when training in the pool my pace is 2:10. Any tips for training sessions to emprove speed. Thanks
@@pierce9128Same for me with speed - pool speed has been getting consistently faster but translating that to open water - even fairly calm lakes rather than choppy seas - I'm still a lot slower.
@@danfurze ya it's frustrating. In the pool I'm average mid of the group but in out in a lake I'm closer to the back than the middle. Would love to just be part of the middle pack
#gtncoachescorner Is keeping your eyes closed during open water swimming ok while your head is underwater? I really don't like open water swimming, I have a silly fear of things touching me while I swim, I actually like the black line in the pool. I open my eyes to sight and to breathe sometimes but for the most part I keep my eyes closed. I haven't tried it in a race yet but in practise I seem to keep pretty straight.
Hi Angela, You are not the first to ask this question and I must admit I even did that in a race recently to avoid looking at all of the jellies. As long as you don't get dizzy and can see other swimmers around you and of course sight then there is no reason you can't do this. Hopefully though with more practise your fear starts to disappear.
so in watching the vids, you're breathing out through your mouth. Which breathing technique is better? Breathing out via the mouth or via the nose? #gtncoachescorner
What open water skills do you need to improve? 🏊♀

This video would have been quite helpful earlier in the summer. I did NOT expect going straight to be such an issue!

What lake is this filmed at?

I love ocean swimming without googles and its really hard to swim straight when the waves are big and strong 🤣

The peno causes drag and drift. Tuck it away properly
Find a venue with water so clear that they could sell it as bottled water 😉
