Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

That rattle in the cab of that new tractor would drive me nuts
I would agree!
Andy, we figured out a way to grease that hard to get to fitting on the grain cart. Get two 4by4 blocks as long as the track is wide and put them across the tracts in front. Slowly pull the cart forward until the first bogey wheel is sitting on the block. This should pivot the assembly so that you can get to the fitting. Continue to each bogey and grease each fitting. Good luck and be safe.
Awesome. I will try that next summer!
thanks andy anotheer vidjeo with very interesting yeild info
Glad you enjoyed it!
Soil amendments for the lighter yield fields. tree chippings, Compost, Manure, Urban green waste compost, whatever is available. Partner with a tree trimming company, or the parks maintenance of the County.
It would be easier to just get some cows 👍
nice drone shots of the liquid gold movin' from field to bin! cool beans
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
Always happy to see a new video come up.
Glad to hear it!
Katie's bolts have more auguring on them! More metal fatigue more breakage! Loved seeing the kids, was wondering how the base CB was working out?
That's a good point. Her combine has some age. The radio at home worked great. Lenny checked in a few times!
Andy there’s one more key ingredient to making a good crop other then what you listed. And that is planting date. Few days either way can make a huge difference.
Unfortunately, you never know the best day until that harvest...
Pops "Having a hard time finding things this morni'n"
You "Just your old age"
GOT'EM 😂
Time catches up to us all 🤣
Looking forward to your explanation of the 8 and 12 row head comparison with increased production.
It doesn't increase the max throughout of the combine. You just spend less time turning on the ends!
Cab corn - Bench Brush and s Dustpan, and put it back in the hopper.
It'll just end up there again!
Andy, since you don't have a grain dryer, have you thought of adding 2nd bin fans to move more air through the grain to dry wetter corn and beans ?
That's an option, but we've gotten along fine with just the minimum CFM fans for the bin size. I know some people do that on their bins. Even going from an axial to a centrifugal fan can be a huge upgrade.
HOW MANY ACERS OF CORN YOU HAVE LEFT? SNOW COMING FOR THANKSGIVING THIS YEAR BY THE WAY HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
I hope we get some snow... we could use the moisture!
We finished our Milo harvest today, about 345 acres or so, now just gotta get the ground plowed to get wheat in the ground.
I've never seen a field of milo around here!
@@aTrippyFarmer we're normally cotton/wheat farmers, but decided not to do cotton this year and went with milo. We've done corn in the past too if the cotton was zeroed out and occasionally milo.
Thanks
Welcome!
Andy, you have to be the most skilled grain cart driver I’ve ever seen. Especially loading trucks!
I'm glad at least one person thinks so 🤠
I don't remember what I called about, but I'm sure it was worth the cab corn😂. Sure fun to see those bushels moving that fast!
Haha you were having combing troubles!
I can not believe you work with that rattle in the cab
Good job guys
Thank you!
What is the tapping zone in the size inside your tractor? That sounds like one of your tracks
No it's my camera screen hitting the window!
Curious about the results of the corn yeld contest
If you're talking about the corn hybrid that I mentioned at the end, it'll be in the next video!
It’s all about perception with that 40° temperature. On a sidenote, I really would like to see the fuel per hours that the 8r is running?
I don't have any hard numbers. I pencil .6 Gpa for corn and .4 Gpa for soybeans, but that is very rough. Road travel obviously affects that.
@@aTrippyFarmer thank you
Andy, are you soil testing for nutrient needed for crops you grow ? 4-5 years between tests is common I hear.
Yes of course. It is done at least every 2 years...sometimes 4 depending on the program.
What crops (cash or cover crops) would you like to add to the crop rotation?😢
I'd like to try some rye as a cover crop after corn!
Did the nitrogen test corn follow beans?
Yes
Call it earth preservation juice.
🤣👍
its too bad Deere doesn’t make the buddy seats more comfortable. A adult can’t sit in them comfortably long.
The buddy seats are uncomfortable so people don't stay too long 😂
Wouldn't just be more efficient to run one combine and have the other person run a tuck
Yes and no!
My aunt somehow got her index and middle finger on her right hand infected. The infection got into her bones on both fingers and they had to cut her fingers off.
Oh Jeeze! Dad's finger is still bothering him despite antibiotics. Hopefully he doesn't lose any digits!
If u wanna make money u shood get 300 bushel corn and 100 bushel beans otherwise why bother
That's my thoughts!
HOW DO YOU GET THAT WITH TREES OR WILDLIFE IN THE FIELDS
Easily if u know what ur doin!*
