TONS OF FISHING ROOM! I knew a guy in my fishing club that had that exact same boat. and took it fifty miles offshore Jacksonville Florida all the time. there's more room in that boat and most new boats today! $2500 add 20k to it and you got a great do all boat.
my son and I just finished refitting an 89 v20. minor transom repair. 2500 came with original aluminum trailer. Striped it down, painted it sea foam green. blew the two stroke and put a Yamaha f150 from 2011 on it. it can definitely handle some chop. Had enough people make a Miami Vice reference that we named it Crocket's Tubb.
Did you ever feel like not enough boat in something that size? I'm hoping to get something for off sure in the next few years/ in shore charter fishing and I don't need a 25 pluss boat for that.
Spent a lot of time on a center console v20 and the ride is pretty darn good! In todays market I don’t think the price is too bad! You can still get a few years of use if the transom isn’t totally rotted and the floor is mostly solid. 🤙
I have owned an '83 V-20 cuddy for 30 years. Wonderful design. Getting to be where only the old salts recognize what she is (mine has no decals since I repainted).
We had a Wellcraft 18.6 Airslot and the ride was great. After about 8 yrs of having it the floor was spongy, I had never done work a boat but did the floor I was so proud. I started to remount fuel filter and found transom rotten. All my work for naught.
I had a Trophy bass boat with a bad transom. I hallowed out the transom, got all the wood out of it and then I pored this stuff down the hallowed out transom that I purchased from the internet that hardened like cement (during the drying process it would get extremely hot) and my transom was good as new. Installed my Yamaha 150 back on and it held. It certainly is an option.
I was thinking 3K partially because used boat prices are crazy these days. If the floor is soft the transom will be too. I had an 82 V 20 which we loved. We liked the walk through windshield feature which you didn’t mention. We moved on to and 88 Wellcraft 2500 walkaround and eventually settled on a GW 272 walkaround probably for life
I had 1988 18' center console. Loved that boat. Should have held onto it. The bow flair will never be duplicated in todays market. I had that thing 15 miles out in nasty weather. Just wasnt good in shallow waters but thats the trade off. 3800 is fair if transom is good.
I had one that we converted from I/O to an outboard on a hill bracket. My dad bought it so he he decided on a 115 and it was a great boat with one or two adults but more than that it was underpowered. A 200 4stroke would’ve been great. That boat caught blues and bass in 2 feet of water all the way to sharks, tuna and dolphin at Maiden Creek. That price with a soft deck is a little much.
3800 is a good price. But everything depends on the transom and the floors. If solid, that is a really good price in todays market. I wouldn’t be afraid of that motor either. Those old two strokes are very simple and if the maintenance is kept up, will run for a long, long time.
Haha you said it. So I have been looking for one. I'm commenting before I know. Just from what I saw this is worth like 3grand to maybe 5. She needs work. 😂 3800 😂😆😂. Been looking for about a year and I'm curious about this one. I may need to take a ride up that way. I have been 40 miles off NJ back in the late 80s tuna fishing in one 😂😆😂. My dad had an 86 with an omc sea drive 😂
@@jiggingjerks they don't exactly have the best reputation. I will say my dad swore by them. We had an 86 v20 with one. Then he got an 88 250 sportsman with twins. I can say we never had an issue. And we used to run that boat to the Hudson out of Little Egg Inlet allot. He also took very good care of those motors. Always professional maintained. It was a good idea just not the best application.
I didn’t hear you mention much about the trailer, especially the lights, wheels and bearings ? If that’s good to go, $3500. However I would not purchase any boat this old, you’ll spend more time fixing it than using it. Thanks.
I have one @1980 V20 STEPLIFT.....I PAID $1800 for mine.with a bad outboard.blown cylinder...I just put on a 175 Evinrude on it..I want to install the same type of captain chairs... Nice 👍🏾👍🏾
I purchased a 1983 V20 almost 5 years ago with the intention of getting it sea worthy, but alas its still sitting in my covered patio. It came with a Evinrude 140 that did not run (ended selling the motor for $300.) and installed my Yamaha 150 from a previous bass boat I had. Its in very good condition but does need a new steering cable and flush out or replace the gas tank. I paid $1950 for mine and traveled about 520 miles round trip to get it. Its difficult to find ocean fishing boats in California that are outboards, most are inboards. And took me a while to find this one. This is the year that I am finally going to make my dream come true and have a very reliable ocean boat that I can fish for lingcod and halibut near Sacramento.
Dusky did just that and now calls it the "278"...adding 3 feet for the bracket. The Original Dusky 20' is a Wellcraft knock off (now called a 22' because of the bracket) Wellcrafts were better built and had full innerliners. I fished my 1978 20' Step-V for 13 years out of Venice ,La and had her 50 miles out on a few occasions. Once got caught in a storm 30 miles out and had to surf 8-10' waves the whole way in...never a problem as long as you had reliable power and I did ('87 150 Suzuki never missed a beat).
You obviously never owned a 20 Step...I did and it saved my ass more times than I care to admit (when I was too far off the Louisiana coast in less than ideal weather). I now have a 1972 25'Bertram Flybridge converted to twin 225 fourstroke O/B. My Bertram is great, but my Wellcraft handled big water better (and DRYER) than any comparable length hull. Would throw spray 20 feet to the sides but none in the boat. Always rode like a much larger hull.
With bad floor and running motor- maybe $2500. With also bad stringers/transom- $1000. Personally I would not touch this. Some project boats you might get your money back. Not this. Little demand for this type of boat.
@@jiggingjerksthat make sense I was thinking to myself I should recheck that before I reply. Lol last time I comment when I'm cooking lol. PS I was being super nice with my pricing lol. I think 3.8 is good especially with the lower unit done. The motor is probably worth close to that. If it was a tad bigger I would be drooling over that for a project boat

Awesome and love the name!!!
That boat was my first boat. Landed my first Blue Marlin on one. Many days 40 plus miles offshore. Suggest adding trim tabs for a great ride.

Great little fishing platform, fair price running
nice video best of luck Todd with the sale.
Ray Hunt design, of course it rides well! Great first boats.
Hoping to film the arguably the most famous Ray Hunt boat this weekend…….

@@timrudy4359 yes sir. A friend of mine has a fully restored one, and we are tentatively scheduled to film it this weekend.

Not to many Grady Whites on the Pacific side. Beautifully designed boats.

Took mine to the butterfish hole off Montauk for tuna 30 years ago
Wow great price. I was thinking it would be 10k
Check the stringers and transom on that puppy. Probably a thousand. It's a project boat.

That’s a fair price-I was thinking $4500 -$5500
Also, these boats can do over 50 MPH properly powered and set up.
Hey Capt, I got a question what do you think about me starting a second channel strictly for boat videos instead of combining the two?
I have thought of doing that as well, but my big concern is losing part of my audience for each channel.
