    Persistence pays off! I have done the venue change a few times, but it rarely pays off for me! That one wave was a smoker though, bit of size too! It's 2AM here, the wind's onshore but after that epic effort I'm going to have find a wave somewhere! Fantastic, inspirational video Womp! YEEWW!! :)

    Looks awesome! I am a surfer originally from Sussex (down south). Surfed Sussex, Kent, now South Wales (moved here) but always wanted to visit NE England. How are the locals? Friendly? (I am very respectful ofc - no dropins, bails, or paddling back through the shoulder)

    • @middleagedshred

      kool..south wales gets real groundswell when it,s heading from the right direction..most people are friendly here or just completely ignore you..been a few times when I,ve said hello and been completely blanked but not often..the young dudes looking to be pro tend to go for every wave regardless of who has priority..you would probably be the only one not paddling out through the shoulder..)

    whats the water temp? our temp gets down to about 7-10C in the winter. sometimes I head north and the water temp is about 3C and if there are waves, snow comes with it, and air temp in the -3C or so.

    • @middleagedshred
      @middleagedshred  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 7'6" is perfect for most of the waves we get here, easy to get into even the smallest of waves....coming from a 9 foot foamie even 8 foot is still plenty big..as long as your popup is decent (mine is terrible) you will be fine on anything between 7'6" and 8 foot as long as it,s about 22 inches wide

      @middleagedshred  3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @gingerandthetramp

    Try putting your chin on the board when you’re paddling into the wave just as it starts to pick you up, should get you into more 👍

    • @middleagedshred
      @middleagedshred  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea man..Theres mixed opinions about that.. the ombe surf dudes and their oreo biscuit analogy says dont do that unless as a last resort..at the moment i,m going chin down at the start if i need to then arched back as the wave takes me to help the wave push the board and prevent nosedive like the pro,s say in Average Joe,s recent video,s..if you chek them out tell them I sent ya..)

    • @gingerandthetramp
      @gingerandthetramp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm I’d never heard d of ombe thought it must o been a spot down your way... authentic surfing eh?! Lols. I’m always happy to see it move away from the wsl and advertising mentality I think if you got into it before it was a gap year ambition or used as a gimmick to sell 4x4s or anything else, then you’re less inclined to be a dick in the water. I’m not sure how you could be unauthentic in the physical act tho, using tricks to get your weight forward certainly wouldn’t dictate such, in my mind. A good solid push on the front o your board can help if you’re stuck in the lip n’all, but yeah there’s a lot of info on here now, sorry, I started in the 80/90’s can’t help myself trying to share the knowledge took me 2-3 yrs to get a green face with out TH-cam to help!!

      Nice man we must o been flapping around about the same time, I grew up in Berwick surfed bamburgh occasionally mostly coldingham and spittal, but yep it was hard work, very few folk in the water still pretty quiet there. My forecast skills were non existent id look for onshores mostly. I was landlocked for a good 10/12 yrs as well 18-30.
