You have the cardboard you are wanting to get rid of. Try lasagna planting …. Cardboard on top of the grass, covered with dirt and goat/rabbit/chicken manure to get rid of the grass. It will be ready to go for next year without the work of getting rid of the grass.
That is awesome!!! To have your solar up and going must feel great!!! Sorry that you lost your meat supply but glad you found a trade to get you by for a bit. Planning ahead for expansion and setting things up from the beginning with those plans in mind will save you time and money. People here often choose to build a storm shelter under a concrete porch on their home. Most people these days don't use their storm shelter for food storage, but when I was a kid most everyone had a storm cellar and used it to store their canned food and root vegetables.
