is ursa cine 12 k better than arri mii lf? and does it have in built stabilization?
I wouldn’t even say having an approved camera gives you a stamp of approval, since the list is only relevant to netflix original content. So long as your work is good enough, netflix really doesn’t care about what camera you use.
Agree with you on everything else though. Great video man
Even then (for netflix originals), if you have a good argument for using out-of-spec cameras, Netflix will allow you to if your reasoning is good enough.
But yeah, the vast majority of people will never participate in a netflix original production so it's all pretty meaningless. Fun to list and see. But meaningless.
The specs are only there because Netflix has to deliver for their more expensive subscriptions which offer 4k HDR as one of the perks.
RECOMENDED ITS THE WORD
Waiting for this to be common knowledge, it's gotta be click bait at this point.
Right!! If your film has some buzz behind it, they literally could care less. They just want eyeballs PERIOD
@@GUILLERMO.NESPOlO not even, it really doesn’t matter what camera is used
I am always amazed at how ppl get so fixated on cameras but not the lens. Like the brain can’t process a imagery without the eyes. The camera can’t process anything without the lens. Talk more about the lenses used with these cameras and then this conversation becomes more valid.
“Netflix APPROVED” is only for NETFLIX ORIGINALS.. if u plan on selling them the content exclusively…… if you only want to liscence it to them for a while any camera will work as long as it up to standard and is formatted correctly… I currently have a SONY FX6 which is also Netflix approved… this does not garuntee them to choose your film… focus on being a great film maker no matter what camera
Ya I was thinking the same
@@tiktokfavorite3070 yeah I thought the fx6 would make me a pro… lol just had super high quality bs edits lol.. 😂 had to learn .. after a year in film school I cringe at old videos I filmed and edited
Got two S1H, best investment I made. You forgot to say that it shoots 6k on OpenGate 3:2 full sensor and have OLPF on the sensor like Cinema Cameras. Even FX9 don’t have these
Finally after so many years someone has come out with a video that explains all this. Well done on a great professional and informative video. Tim in Dublin Ireland...
Cool. I just found your list from 2023 and now here's another one. Thanks for interjecting that bit about not "needing" an approved camera as it clears things up a bit that I was thinking of asking you in the last video.
Good luck with your docu series. It looks really cool!
Very well put together. Thank you for making this
thank you Alex for the video, I appreciate your hard work
Thank you Alex - This was so awesome.
canon R5C ?
👏👏👏👏👏great video!thank you so much👑
Remember you can RENT! Don't let the prices keep you back or scare you!
Thx
Xcellent content, concise and comprehensive.
great content bro! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for another open and honest video. God bless you.
It’s good to know what cameras to look into when I outgrow the one I have. It’s cool showing the cost of these cameras. Great video and thanks 👍🏾
Of course brother thanks for the support 🙏🏻
Great information 🙌🙏🏻
WARNING: We had an Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K and it died of overuse. However, we did buy it used and worked with it for 6 years almost DAILY. Since then, we bought a Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G2 used and have had no issues. Just throwing it out there for people with our experience.
Netflix is not reference for academic standards to pass a QC. You will help people more if you explain them about the Academic and smpte standards. And stop saying Netflix is the gold standard, please! The hardest QC to pass is HBO’s……Netflix is a peace of cake……
Judging by some of Netflix’s recent releases, id say they’re the last place to be used as reference lmao.
One corrective note, the C500ii is actually full frame and shots 6k60p in 12-bit raw
I've seen some big budget shows that have bad moire and aliasing which I find interesting with the quality of cameras today.
thanks for informative video ,I am using a7m4
I do agree some projects probably do not require the camera to be Netflix-approved. That being said, it does not hurt for them to be so, either. What people want can vary based on who your production partners or vendors are, so an approved camera may open some doors or provide additional benefits, versus cameras that aren't.
Where's the BGH1?
First time watching your channel, this was very interesting. How important do you think is to use anamorphic lenses? and what would be the anamorphic lens to start with?
I don’t think that it’s important at all. It just depends on what look you’re trying to capture. Even though a lot of incredible movies are shot in anamorphic it doesn’t make it the standard. There’s still a ton of award-winning films being shot using spherical lenses.
I have the Panasonic BS1H and it’s a great camera with amazing image quality. My problem with the list is that they are slow to update. The Panasonic S5iix is a vast improvement over the S5, but it’s not on the list.
I would choose the EVA1 over the FS7 personally, sad this didn't make the cut as they are getting cheep now.
Where is Canon C70? It costs 5.500$, has the biggest dynamic range in this camera class, records 12bit raw, 4k 120, has 10 stops of ND and good autofocus...and its approved for Netflix
That’s a good mention. Honestly just missed that one
As a sensor ages is it common for the output to generate more noise in the image ?
Netflix approved cameras are for shows that have been commissioned by Netflix so its kind of irrelevant whats netflix approved or not. Get whatever camera gives you the best image quality that is easiest for you to operate and is appropriate for the types of things you shoot/want to shoot.
thank you for your hard work putting this video together for us, I enjoyed it.
The Canon C500 sounds like the fx30 just without the raw, which you can get prores raw 12bit so I don't know why netflix hasn't approved it
They probably just don’t care to use it for their productions. It really doesn’t matter whether Netflix “approves” a cam or not, it means nothing.
So we all broke 😭🙏🏽
Many filmmakers often prioritize visuals at the expense of neglecting the equally crucial aspect of audio. I've witnessed numerous high-budget productions where dialogue is barely audible, ambient sounds are poorly captured, and both soundtrack and sound effects fall short. Therefore, my friend, before solely focusing on visuals, it's wise to also pay attention to the auditory elements.
Is there a way to test these cameras before buying?
I Love buying used cameras. I still own a Red one that works as well as it did years ago.
FX30 is also Netflix approved right ? Not sure if I'll reach that point any time soon, but having an FX3 & a FX30 is nice to know I have two Netflix approved cameras 🙂
What cameras would be your preference to shoot a feature film with martial arts screen fighting on?
hey broo what about lumix s5 mark 2 x
Most of the television broadcaster have a list of approved camera for two reasons :
1/ To respect the minimum specs and ensure the image quality (but if you're a good cinematographer you don't need a high value camera to do good pictures. But you have to respect a minimum specs though...)
2/ To support the manufacturer who works for making our jobs greater and easyer, as them being a part of the entertainment system (but if you're a small production company, most broadcaster understand if you couldn't afford it.) Because if everyone is just using the cheapest camera, as a broadcaster, you would have to show pretty bad films... like social media.
Netflix approved or not, just film something with a camera/camcorder. Quality usually doesn’t matter, but as you got a story to tell.
From my understanding you need a Netflix approved camera to shoot and work on Netflix projects. However if you film your own movie and Netflix sees your movie they don't care what you used.
you forgot the bgh 1
and the eva 1
I guess originally the purpose of the Netflix approved camera list was to make sure that people were shooting in 4k for Netflix original content since back then Netflix was probably one of the only streaming companies providing 4k content. But now 4k is so prevalent that the point of the list has kind of waned in recent years.
Sony Zv E10 4k
Am Shooting a Netflix Series on it
Lumix s5 line of cameras have the same sensor of the s1h minus the olpf to
Codecs are basic and that's why it's not on the Netflix List...
@@Samiam-mu5lnno. Same codec as the S1H and got even more with external ssd 6K ProRes hq but no olpf and no timecode, bad battery life and bad screen rotation
Surely those $2k listing’s aren’t real?!? Cameras are this bloody cheap in the USA?? Goddamn ya’ll are so lucky compared to Australia. People here are selling the C300 mark ii for $4500 AUD still
Sony fx3 native iso 800? Thought it was 640?
640 is for the a7siii the fx3 and fx6 its 800
Don’t sleep on the Varicam LT…
RECOMENDED it’s the word
canon C70!
and Zcam ?
It would actually be most useful if there were Netflix approved lenses lol
i dont know how the black magic 6k pro isnt netflix approved.
A *FS7* For $1100 😮 well I was searchin high and low for a *FS5*
Thank you so much bro. You just saved me from making a crazy purchase ❤ this is the exact video I was looking for.
That’s awesome man so glad!
What did you plan on buying lol?
@@Creative.visionzz FX3 with G Master. I’ll still get it but probably wait to see what’s coming this year.
You forgot to include Z Cam.
RIP the low prices of another bunch of budget cameras😅
Recording with a "cheap" camera is not an issue.
Using cheap lenses IS an issue!
If you watch enough movie or series on streaming, finally you will end up one of them where camera man used a cheap lens which has terrible bokeh or some very strange distortion. And it is not an artistic decision, usually seen on only a few scenes. But it is terrible enough to recognize.
I just do not understand the need for 12K. It just feels like over kill.
Lumix S5IIX >
Nobody should make you feel inferior without your consent. It could be a marketing strategy for selling out some cameras to those that felt what God has given to them is not enough .
em nope
wow, cool content...but very misleading title...cheap! the link to the Sony FS7 you have is an Amazon page- listing the camera at 7000 dollars! yikes, thanks but no thanks...I have the Panasonic BGH1 which is a Netflix approved camera (Which i actually the cheapest approved camera) and you didn't even mention it? I subbed anyway nice effort...peace and much love from Dallas
You bought it for $2,800!!! 😮😮😮
I hope your video is just for clicks and you're not seriously pushing the idea that anyone needs a "Netflix approved" camera. I doubt anyone in your comment section is a Netflix Original DP/filmmaker/cam-op. This is quite simply a marketing term if anything.
If you made it to the end of the video you would have heard me say that you don’t NEED a Netflix approved camera.
That’s on me then. I watched until around 6-7 minutes before returning to an edit.
$6,385.00
Most misleading click bait post ever. This approved camera list is totally irrelevant. First, that won't make you picked up by Netflix, it doesn't work that way, second, the camera list applies only for Netflix own productions, which they pay for anyway. Instead of focusing on the camera, focus on the story, and find a legit Netflix rep/distributor, that's your ticket.
What’s up Oliver, not sure if you watched the whole video but there’s a whole bit at the end where I very clearly state that you don’t need a Netflix approved camera to get your projects on Netflix. I even say that this is for preferred vendors that produce Netflix original content. Not sure where you came up with clickbait I literally showcase Netflix approved cameras and then say that you do not NEED THIS. lol good day sir🤠
Apologies , I was misled by the title. @@Alexzarfatifilms
Who cares what cameras Netflix approves if they want you to make with it sh*t like ring of power xd
