Stuart Ian Frost residency
In early 2018, acclaimed sculptor and
environment artist Stuart Frost will
undertake a three month residency in
Western Australia. Through his reverence
for the natural environment Frost will
explore the rich natural and cultural
specifics of two disctinct regions within
WA through developing a new body of
work and through collaborations with the
local artistic community.
During February and March 2018 Frost
will be in the Great Southern region
creating ephemeral land works that
are site specific and developed in
direct response to the rich and diverse
ecosystem of the area. Frost will then
travel to the Pilbara region of WA during
April. This third month will afford Frost a
significant experience of landscape that is
uniquely distinctive to WA. Any outcomes
that may arise from this portion will be
developed authentically in response to the
experiential format of the residency.
While undertaking this long-term
residency Frost will be working within
the relative communities of each area
to enable an integrated approach to
his art-making. Frost has a unique and
transferable set of skills in his handling of
natural materials that will be of particular
interest and value to this regional creative
community.
