  • Kehlani is officially back with her latest offering 'Blue Water Road' in which the Bay native exclusively came through the Power 106 studios to share a listening experience with some of her biggest fans and the Power Mornings show.
Kehlani’s third studio album is marked with intention, purpose, and experience. Speaking about the process of creating the new project, the songstress details the inspiration behind the latest release to Mornings’ co-hosts Letty, Teddy Mora, and Javen Cannon, as well as lucky Power listeners who popped in for the exclusive interview moment. Inspired by motherhood and her continued spiritual journey, the “Up At Night” singer explains how the album came together in just two months and that much of her creativity is a result of evolving from motherhood.
Speaking on the powerful and moving “Altar” single, Kehlani shares that she’s tapped in more with those who have passed on, and the song is a literal representation of her experiences with communication with those in the afterlife.
As Kehalni expresses that she’s just as normal and regular as everyone else, citing her frequent trips to the grocery store, the star also speaks on the close relationships she’s developed with like-minded artists from Dreamville, such as JID and Earthgang, and even Alicia Keys. Finding connections with Dreamville and other peers in the industry, Kehalni shares her perspective on genre becoming more exclusive yet expanded with more artists being more concerned with making music that they want to make.
Kehlani goes on to speak about when she first started paying attention to hip hop, why she’d be inspired to direct a movie about motherhood, and much more.

Absolutely loved this interview, it had so much depth, yet such a lightness to it. It was also hilarious. Really respected the interviewers tapping into their stories and vulnerability as Kehlani did. Felt like friends opening doors for each other to feel. Felt like being in the room, laughing alongside them. Beautiful.

It’s weird cause when she mentioned playing the album in whole and nervous about playing selected songs…This is the ONLY album where I have to play it in order..I usually don’t care to play songs in order and I shuffle songs in albums. Her intentions definitely worked

They definitely are! Spirits cannot stay on earth once people die. Anything that is not of God is exactly that-not of God. Praying for all the celebrities in Santeria and other “spiritual journeys”. The Holy Spirit is the only one worthy of our attention 🤍

Regla de Ocha. It’s part of ATR (African Traditional Religions) I believe what she practices is specific to the Caribbean so like PR/DR. But she did a video with Vogue recently where she says it’s what they practice

Lucumi/Orisha practice aka Santeria which is a bit of an outdated term. You may also hear people use La Regla De Ocha, or Ocha. People use these terms interchangeably. She’s crowned to the orisha Ochun. You may have seen Beyoncé utilize Ochun imagery around her Lemonade era.
