It’s surprising to me how a lot of Chinese (market) dolls don’t make it far out of China considering how nice they are!! Kurhn dolls are popular in Russia too, I think but under a different name? Always excited to introduce people to dolls :3

Yessss, I love Chinese dolls! Yeloli is my favorite, their characters have such iconic looks. The small Yeloli doll with dark hair is named Loli in the TV show. The two pink-haired dolls are indeed the same character, but I'm not sure what her name is. The BJD with elf ears is a water spirit. He's actually a boy, as are the steampunk doll and the fox-eared doll. Unfortunately they don't seem to make boy dolls in the 11" size, just in the huge 2.5 foot tall size and the small chibi size. I also thought those dolls with the red, blue, and yellow hair were like a magical girl squad. So they're all the same character? They're very pretty.
It seems like those larger-scale dolls may be the more popular playline doll over there? At least for Yeluoli... I absolutely love the dolls and the designs have always really blown me away. I'm sad to hear they don't do the male dolls in the 1:6 scale! I don't know how many full size ones I would ever realistically want to add to my collection ahaha I was SO bummed when I finally watched Teenieping and realized they were all just Romi teaming up with a Teenieping!! I guess it makes sense but.. ahhh I really prefer when it's a team. The designs are SOOO good (and they've only gotten better - the seaosn 4 dolls are unbelievable!!)

Its cool to hear you're trying to learn another language right now! I'm not trying to learn the language, but I've gained a huge interest in chinese fashion and culture recently. I've been watching the chinese drama "empresses in the palace" lately as most of the episodes are free on youtube with english subtitles. Apparently it was huge in China back in 2011. I'm not sure if its necessarily something that you may enjoy, but it is something to try watching! I've been enjoying it, its very dramatic.
I need to start watching their media… something prevents it. We’ve watched some movies for class and I’ve been extremely impressed by the directing and character acting but it’s possible those were just super good movies? I just think it’s really special to be able to connect with people in that way and it helps you understand how they think. I took Arabic on a whim after changing my major in my undergrad and I am really glad I did that!
@@xCanadensis Highly recommend iQIYI as a streaming service or WeTV (tencent) - find that reality tv (like girl group / boy group survival idol show) are great for learning casual language and usually those are very popular so they also come with english subs. C-dramas are great but they don't use as many modern words are are a little bit more poetic / hard to understand at first.
Also! If you have english netflix, a lot of the kid's content is regionally dubbed and because you have both languages you can watch both versions and compare the language.
I love that Giant nosy beats looking doll in the back just watching everything. I remember Kurhn from way back in the day when googling blythe and it's dupes.

Dang, I guess I need to look at 小红书. I’ve been avoiding it, because I don’t need another social media video service, but maybe this is a way to connect with the Chinese doll fans. I live near Shanghai and have been in China for years, but it can be hard to meet people who see you as a person with common interests rather than just a foreigner.
Be careful with xiaohongshu it’s highly addictive… that algorithm is a little too good ahaha But it’s been SUPER cool to discover dolls and also learn cosplay and sewing techniques :o I hope you can find doll friends there 🥺 there’s definitely a lot of really cool collector communities over there from what I’ve seen… of course I have no idea where they’re located but I have to imagine they’re in the bigger cities and not rural.

Hanyu pinyin, the phonetic symbols for Chinese characters, is the system to transcribe Mandarin Chinese sounds into a Latin alphabet. In the 90's we used to play a cassette of a course in chinese / english in the car and my dad my mom and me repeated what it said... we had so much fun... i miss those days... 😢 And i want reviews of any brand\whatever countries they are... love them!♡♡♡
I’m learning Mandarin at a university for fun/another degree 😅 pinyin was a year ago. I just don’t really talk about it much because it hasn’t really come up. It’s just a gauntlet to learn characters so you can actually read and write
Ya my dad did the same but he used pinyin if he had some problem or if he want to be sure about the word, prononciation and how to write it in good characters 😊

It’s very interesting that dolls from Asia don’t look like Asian people. Do they purposely make dolls not to look like themselves? Perhaps the dolls look more Asian in person but on the screen they all look white with big/wide eyes.
