      @@purplebeard1526 agree but just about all of the songs have the same thing in common with all classic/timeless stories, poems, songs, and music = unique expression of human universalities. Just about every song has depth beyond the surface.
      It might be a bit hard to digest the first time through but take for example Rocket Queen look at it as an epic story after the fact at the collateral damage of casual relationships when they only go one way... etc...

      Entire album is just so so so good... one of the last of the "Album as art" LP's... In any case Night Train is a banger. Pretty much every song on this album is something you can deeply identify with (especially if you were young living through the 80's... IE same age as the band). And god some of those songs are idiotically deep if you found yourself in the same place... Example = Rocket Queen. Incredible inner emotional view of a common situation for a lot of young guys with a rarely expressed set of feelings about such things.

    What makes Slash so special is he has the technical talent of Eddie Van Halen (well close to) but also more important is the ability to match the guitar solo to the song. I put him in the realm of Gilmore and Glen Tripton/KK Downing (Judas Priest). I don't know if this makes sense but most 80s "Hair Metal" guitarist had lots of talent but didn't always lay down their ego and focus on the song's vibe. Slash was a master at it. His guitar solos just fit the song perfectly. Slash is a genius. I just wish Slash and Axle kept writing music together. They had more to give but I love what they did. What a voice and what a guitarist and what songwriting...as you can hear, it was perfection.

    These guys were huge rock stars during the late 80's and early 90's. Everybody talks about Axl and Slash, but I bet you don't know that the beer Homer Simpson drinks is named after the bass player, Duff McKagan. I've seen him tell the story about how he was a huge drinker back in the day and one time he got a call from a guy in Fox TV asking him if he was okay with his name being used for a beer in a new cartoon they were releasing and he said sure, go ahead. Arguably that beer is now more famous than him.

    Rock is usually more chill than the stereotypical energetic sound. It has force and power but it's range is more sonically diverse. Examples of Rock are The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, and Boston.
    Song example: Boston - More Than A Feeling
    Hard Rock is more like what people think of when they hear the word Rock. It's the more aggressive-sounding Rock music with harder distortion and is usually the beginnings of headbanging music. it will often have a live quality in which the song would perform a lively show in concert. Hard Rock tends to be less angry than Metal, but more energetic and exciting than Rock. Examples of Hard Rock are AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Aerosmith, and Van Halen.
    Song Example: AC/DC - Thunderstruck
    Heavy Metal (often shortened to just Metal) is a step up from Hard Rock and can go to great lengths of aggressive instrumentation and vocals. The guitars have a much heavier distorted sound and the drums are much more intense. The Bass also tends to apply the thickness to the sound, giving it a big low end rhythm section. Vocals tend to be full of power, aggression, and force, though there are different variations. Some are more operatically intense, while others are more in your face gritty. Examples of Heavy Metal are Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dio, and Metallica.
    Song Example: Metallica - Enter Sandman
    The thing with Metal is that it has perhaps the most diverse range of subgenres than any other music genre, each one with a different sound and variation. A few notable ones;
    Speed Metal: Heavy Metal with fast tempos. (i.e Motörhead, Accept, and Deep Purple)
    Thrash Metal: Heavy Metal with fast tempos and harder distortion, typically with a lot of palm muted chugs and tremolo in the guitars. (i.e Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax)
    Death Metal: Heavy Metal with the instrumentation of Thrash, though not always at fast tempos, and incorporates more intense and growling vocals, often with themes of gore, death, and occult. (i.e Death, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, and Carcass)
    Progressive Metal: Heavy Metal with more complex structures, often with longer song lengths at, above, or approaching the 10 minute mark, intricate rhythms and odd time signatures. (i.e Dream Theater, Tool, and Opeth)
    Power Metal: Heavy Metal with more story-driven themes, virtuoso instrumentation, fast and often galloping tempos, guitar harmonies, historical/fantasy-based lyrics, and operatic vocals. (i.e Helloween, Dragonforce, Iron Maiden, and Blind Guardian)
    Glam Metal: Heavy Metal with a more radio-friendly edge and uses themes of trashy feminine characteristics on men as a form of androgyny. Vocals tend to sound higher in pitch, borderline female-sounding and the instrumentation often has a lively arena sound to it. (i.e Mötley Crüe, Quiot Riot, Poison, and Bon Jovi)
    As for Guns N Roses, they fall on the line of Glam Metal and Hard Rock. Many consider them one or the other, but the truth is that they have music that go in both ways. Not all the bands listed above are always that sound. Some rock bands have done metal song, some metal bands have done rock songs, some Death Metal bands have done thrash or progressive, et cetera et cetera.

    I don't remember which list it was, but on mtv one year they rated the top 100 guitar riffs of all time. And that Slash riff in this song was in the top 5 I believe.
