There are some major issues developing high speed rail in The United States. Passenger trains are limited in speed to about 75 MPH. Also, many tracks Amtrak uses are owned by the Class 1 freight lines. They have the right of way Also, the localities charge Amtrak obscene property taxes. I would love to see more high speed rail lines, especially in the more congested areas in the country. Some major changes in regulation are needed.

Wonderful, I did this trip and parts of it Many times while living in Munich. Booked ahead, 1st class is very reasonable and far better than flying esp when combined with lounges at the stations. No queuing and v civilised, unlike air travel. Plus arriving in Paris Gare de Lest alot nicer than Gare du Nord (from UK on Eurostar).
Once we (me and my family) technically got to ride the TGV Inoui (single deck) for free, because our ICE train(in which we had our seats reserved) to Paris got cancelled, and the TGV went up to 322 kph (my father checked it through an online speedometer).
I’m so jealous of European trains. Fast, quiet, affordable transportation with great service and well equipped stations. Compare this to US with loud slow trains that are never on schedule and old crammed stations always full of bums.
Crammed stations full of bums are the rule, not the exception, at least in Germany. My one and only train journey in the US was not too different from what I'm used to here, although train schedules are horrible there for the most part
Spending my life between France and Germany i love this train, just a little issue in Germany is that there are often issues in big urbanized area with delays and stops in the middle of nowhere for several reasons. But overall it is fine and we are lucky to have these lines !

High speed trains reach the maximum speed only in some specific tracks. If the high speed train is not riding an exclusive high speed track, then they are sharing the same track with low speed trains. Traffic ahead, arrangements needed for Railway junctions and railway work are the main causes of a stop in the middle of nowhere 🚄
Comparable to the price of a similar train Siemens "Sapsan" in Russia, 700 km between Moscow-St. Petersburg = 30 euros. But our salaries are many times less than European ones. Guys, always compare not with those who live better, but with those who are worse off. It will make your heart feel better😊
Nice. I went from Dijon to Munich. We had to change trains in Strasbourg, which will always be my favorite stop. 2 hours was too short. Such a pretty place!
Do that same trip early 23 to see improvement between Ulm and Stuttgart and once more early 26 when Stuttgart Hbf is completely underground and drive-through.
Memories! Did this journey back in November 2017! Lovely trip with a change in Paris from Est to Nord for a train back to UK. The train wasn’t in the InOui colours then though…. I work as a barista on these trains, I would have liked to see who my colleagues were at the bar, aha can’t recognize them. This tour is physically hardcore. We have 18h of train with a small 5h night in Munich

I chose lower deck because of our luggage and previous experience on the London to Paris train. I was not expecting such nice vistas on this route as I drove it years ago. Of course this is just my own opinion but-- 1.Is there a need for it,? most infrastructure projects, canals, railways, bridges etc, were created years ago to help facilitate, connectivity and industry/military needs. 2. How long will this type of rail travel be viable with new forms of tech such as Maglev, and beyond?. 3. The cost would be prohibitive and Money in "Global Britain" is very tight at the moment with Pandemic/Brexit costs, and like most big projects in the UK the costs spiral out of all control. 4.I may be wrong on this but I suspect public money is being used at the moment to finance this project, and then to hand it back to private enterprise is just plain wrong, and prices (which are not cheap in the UK) will be even more expensive. I think the UK could better spend the money it has available on a first class and reliable rail service service , than HS2 which is just a "Vanity Project" Just my thoughts .

Cut the time by one hour and it would be a good alternative to flying. Just under 5 hours versus 1.5 hour flight time + all the time through security and getting to and from the airport which let's say doubles the flight time to 3 hours. Especially if you leave early in the morning you could just sleep and still arrive before noon.
The problem is that the journey in Germany is too slow. Once in France it takes 1 hour and a half between the border and Paris (more than half of the journey!)
Good news that this is exactly what is going to happen. This year a new rail line between Stuttgart and Ulm will cut travel times by 30 minutes (when completely finished in 2025) and another new HSR line between Ulm und Augsburg will cut out another 20 minutes (probably around 2030).

I was referring to the track that the trains run on, not the side of the train the passenger was sitting on after the train reversed at Stuttgart (Stuttgart is not on the German/French border anyway; Strasbourg is the crossing point). In France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, parts of Austria, and of course the British Isles, trains run on the left. In Germany trains strictly run on the right. Austria is part left and part right running because, after the Anschluss in 1938, the Nazis forced Austrians to change over to drive road vehicles on the right, but couldn't do the same with trains as that would mean altering the whole country's signalling system. So trains running into Germany and Hungary run on the right, but trains running south to Italy run on the left.

Whenever they do finish the Stuttgart 21 project, this trip will be even faster by up to an hour. 4h47m is very very competitive on this route, especially as MUC & CDG/ORY are both very far from each city's center.
Usually, train routes up to about 5h30 are as fast as, or faster than, taking the plane (and definitely more comfortable) And now let it sink in that the much shorter route Berlin - Munich takes 4 hours with an ICE... Damnit, Deutsche Bahn...

yes but in 2024 CDG will had CDG Express(16min) and ORY will had M14 (Meteor)Metro line (18min).... The TGV must do it in 4 hours or even 3h30 to be competitive with the plane, so an HSL all the way. Moreover an HSL link above the Rhine should be built because it is important ... the Spanish already have a link HSL via the Figueras tunnel and the Italians soon via the Ambin base tunnel (Lyon Turin HSL). I hope Germany is willing to do so.

The average speed is about 150 Km/h thats about right. The German tracks are not good enough to have a speed holding on long time like in France. The avarge speed between Strasbourg und Paris for example is 250 Km/h. The Train there is able to take 1 hour and 40 minutes for 430 km.
Beijing to Shanghai 1318km ， The fastest high-speed train from Beijing to Shanghai is 4 hrs 18 mins, and the price is 84.51€（626 RMB）,1 € = 7.4 RMB 。 Munich to Paris 838km @ 5 hrs 47 mins ， €39.90
Munich Hbf (City Center) to MUC Airport (train): 45 min Flight time 1h35m CDG Airport to Paris Est station (in the city center) by train: 40 min So around 3 hours for airport train/flight alone, but on top you need time for "be early at the airport"/check-in/security/luggage belt/walk between airport train station and gates... Probably around 5 hours with a lot more stress / less relaxing journey
@challengerJB17 I have nothing against double-deck passenger rail - I am actually shocked that Alstom does not create a duplexed Avelia (for outside of France - and not even just the US). MARC (Maryland) has been running duplex commuter rail since 2000, and is not alone in the US doing so, as Florida (Tri-Rail) and the western US (Cascades) are also duplex.

In Munich the station is relatively empty, clean, well organized, but rather classic and ugly. In Paris (Gare de l'Est), it's the opposite, much more crowded, less clean, poorly organized, but much more pretty and charming! This is almost often the main difference between Germany and France...
@@yung4eva sorry, but you are wrong. In Germany allmost all Railway station are as Paris Gare de l'Est, very old and ugly. Munich mainstation is brandnew and therefore its look as you can see in the movie. Five years ago, Munich Mainstation looked ugly, very ugly. Inside and even outside. In Germany only Munich, Berlin and Leipzig are nice Stations IMHO. The smaller a station is, the more ugly and dirty the station appears. Probably you will never see someone there, who takes care of the dirt.
You guys should see American stations before arguing who has more ugly stations. Always overcrowded, smelly with narrow platforms. I was delighted watching both German and French stations in this video.

Munich is brand new, so no wonder it impresses. there are hundreds of other train stations that nobody is interested in, but nobody shows them here in the videos either :-) In France it's a bit different, there the stations are much more charming and loving - at least the ones I know. I don't know any American stations, but the train has a completely different meaning there. There they probably use planes for long distances. However, bad German train stations don't get better because the US has even worse train stations.
I traveled on a Rail Pass, did Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France. Italy was only country where bar/cafe car wasn't open on high speed trains. Any idea when they may reopen?
I've been looking at the Munich Paris route because I want to do it by train, I only have one question, it tells me that I have to change trains in Stuttgart but there are only 9 minutes for the change. My question is if those 9 minutes are enough?
i took in september a train from vienna to salzburg, ~ 300km, travel time was arount 2hours 30-40 minutes (cant remember anymore) and my price was 48€ well - still better than traveling by car, because i slept almost the whole journey
At only 5 hour and 47 minutes, this would be preferred over plane travel in my opinion. CDG is a nightmare of an airport exclusive of the couple hours one would need to check in. I hope engineers can get the speed up to 400km/hr; It would be a preferred alternative for many travellers.
Only part of the journey is on high speed track on the German side, whilst 100% is high speed on the French side. If the German line is upgraded the journey time will reduce significantly.
This is Europe. A train ride over more than 700km from one country to another without changing train or borders controls. Love it.

to get a low price ticket you have to book about 3 months in advance. Fares are currently increasing. A trip today costs Munich-Paris 169 euros.

The second tower couldn't be built because the underground is like a swamp, so it will make it all collapse. :)

I noticed that the train changes from right track running to left track running at the German/French border. Is there a flyover there to do that?
Engine was reversed went in opposite direction after Stuttguard..

I was referring to the track that the trains run on, not the side of the train the passenger was sitting on after the train reversed at Stuttgart (Stuttgart is not on the German/French border anyway; Strasbourg is the crossing point). In France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, parts of Austria, and of course the British Isles, trains run on the left. In Germany trains strictly run on the right. Austria is part left and part right running because, after the Anschluss in 1938, the Nazis forced Austrians to change over to drive road vehicles on the right, but couldn't do the same with trains as that would mean altering the whole country's signalling system. So trains running into Germany and Hungary run on the right, but trains running south to Italy run on the left.
@@ktipuss In Elsass ("Alsace") and in most parts of Lothringen ("Lorraine") the train are rightside running, due to historical resaons. But I don´t think that applies to LGV:s - there traditional french leftside running is in place.

Whenever they do finish the Stuttgart 21 project, this trip will be even faster by up to an hour. 4h47m is very very competitive on this route, especially as MUC & CDG/ORY are both very far from each city's center.
Usually, train routes up to about 5h30 are as fast as, or faster than, taking the plane (and definitely more comfortable)
And now let it sink in that the much shorter route Berlin - Munich takes 4 hours with an ICE... Damnit, Deutsche Bahn...

The TGV must do it in 4 hours or even 3h30 to be competitive with the plane, so an HSL all the way. Moreover an HSL link above the Rhine should be built because it is important ... the Spanish already have a link HSL via the Figueras tunnel and the Italians soon via the Ambin base tunnel (Lyon Turin HSL). I hope Germany is willing to do so.

If the train was riding at 320km/h, it should cover this distance in less than three hours.
Please consider the low speeds allowed around the stations/suburban areas, the time spent at the stations during stops and the traffic right needed to allow a train enter in a specific Railroad Track 🚦🚄 High speed trains reach the maximum speed only in some specific tracks.
The average speed is about 150 Km/h thats about right. The German tracks are not good enough to have a speed holding on long time like in France. The avarge speed between Strasbourg und Paris for example is 250 Km/h. The Train there is able to take 1 hour and 40 minutes for 430 km.

Flight time 1h35m
CDG Airport to Paris Est station (in the city center) by train: 40 min
So around 3 hours for airport train/flight alone, but on top you need time for "be early at the airport"/check-in/security/luggage belt/walk between airport train station and gates...
Probably around 5 hours with a lot more stress / less relaxing journey

@challengerJB17 I have nothing against double-deck passenger rail - I am actually shocked that Alstom does not create a duplexed Avelia (for outside of France - and not even just the US). MARC (Maryland) has been running duplex commuter rail since 2000, and is not alone in the US doing so, as Florida (Tri-Rail) and the western US (Cascades) are also duplex.

Actually, Montreal to Quebec city (about 200km) takes more than 4 hrs....and 60km/hr is the top speed

In Munich the station is relatively empty, clean, well organized, but rather classic and ugly. In Paris (Gare de l'Est), it's the opposite, much more crowded, less clean, poorly organized, but much more pretty and charming! This is almost often the main difference between Germany and France...
@@yung4eva sorry, but you are wrong. In Germany allmost all Railway station are as Paris Gare de l'Est, very old and ugly. Munich mainstation is brandnew and therefore its look as you can see in the movie. Five years ago, Munich Mainstation looked ugly, very ugly. Inside and even outside. In Germany only Munich, Berlin and Leipzig are nice Stations IMHO. The smaller a station is, the more ugly and dirty the station appears. Probably you will never see someone there, who takes care of the dirt.
You guys should see American stations before arguing who has more ugly stations. Always overcrowded, smelly with narrow platforms. I was delighted watching both German and French stations in this video.
@@Дмитро-х2г if you only know train stations in germany from these videos, then i can understand the comment. The video shows Munich and Stuttgart, for example. Munich is brand new, so no wonder it impresses. there are hundreds of other train stations that nobody is interested in, but nobody shows them here in the videos either :-)
In France it's a bit different, there the stations are much more charming and loving - at least the ones I know.
I don't know any American stations, but the train has a completely different meaning there. There they probably use planes for long distances. However, bad German train stations don't get better because the US has even worse train stations.
I traveled on a Rail Pass, did Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France. Italy was only country where bar/cafe car wasn't open on high speed trains. Any idea when they may reopen?

I've been looking at the Munich Paris route because I want to do it by train, I only have one question, it tells me that I have to change trains in Stuttgart but there are only 9 minutes for the change. My question is if those 9 minutes are enough?
Not when the first train is 20 minutes late, no. Book at int.bahn.de change Transfer time from normal to 40 minutes.
i took in september a train from vienna to salzburg, ~ 300km, travel time was arount 2hours 30-40 minutes (cant remember anymore) and my price was 48€
well - still better than traveling by car, because i slept almost the whole journey
At only 5 hour and 47 minutes, this would be preferred over plane travel in my opinion. CDG is a nightmare of an airport exclusive of the couple hours one would need to check in. I hope engineers can get the speed up to 400km/hr; It would be a preferred alternative for many travellers.
Rail is the only civilized way to travel for sure.
Only part of the journey is on high speed track on the German side, whilst 100% is high speed on the French side. If the German line is upgraded the journey time will reduce significantly.
They will get the speed up on this line to 350 km/h I think for the avelia horizon but idk if has 4 pantograph's I thought I only saw two so maybe not
