I bought a Japanese Stratocaster Copy from the 70s. It was cheap.

  • Yo, guys. Finally in a new room. Again. Making videos is way more fun when all you have to do is to power on your cam and your studio lights without having to move some furniture first.
I found this awesome guitar for only a few bucks.
Any information about this specific Kasuga?
I found some Kasugas online, but not with exactly the same specs/logo etc.
Please let me know how you liked this "voice over" style.
It was easier for me to make a video this way. Less needed takes.
You won't have to wait forever for the next video. I guess. ^^
    Thx for tuning in.

    Guter fund 👍

Great to see one of these again. I owned one back in the 80's though mine had a rosewood fingerboard, it was also a tobacco sunburst like yours. I've always regretted selling it. It was a fantastic guitar and far better than many of the more expensive guitars I now own. I loved how it felt to play and its tone. Personally I'd leave it as is other than a good clean, remove the stickers etc.. I always think of those dings and scratches as rock scars. They are part of it's history. Enjoy your new toy and play it for more than 10 hours per year! 👍 Unfortunately I can't give you any specs on it as I never knew either.

Great feedback anyway. Thank you very much. Yeah, I guess I will keep it all originall and just give it a clean up.
I can't stand the position of the volume knob and the middle pickup. But that's a general classic-strat problem. And the lacquered neck is sticky when your hands are not dry. Other than that the guitar feels amazing. Like an old acquaintance.

@@M-Guitars Ha yes the age old strat volume knob problem. I came across a good hack for that. A small flat rubber disk slipped over the shaft under the the knob (use the knob as your template for the diameter) will add a bit of friction and stop you from accidentally turning it down while you're playing. I was dubious but gave it a try and it works a treat. I have my strat set up like that now. Also a gentle rub down with an extremely fine grit sand paper on the back of the neck will take the gloss off it removing the sticky feel. You don't want to go too heavy with it though the idea is not to remove the finish, just take the surface off. Those old cellulose finishes they used in the 70's can get a bit sticky over time. I don't have any suggestions for the middle pick up. Can't say I've ever seen that as a problem to be honest.

@@fret-less Not real problems. I would only use it for some modest clean playing. If I'd use it as a daily I would remove the tone knobs (never used them on any guitar) and put the volume knob into one of the tone positions. If you don't intend to use it in a session you can screw the middle pickup all the way down/in. Or just get used to it. Like you did. ;)

This channel is my entire ideology beat for beat. If there is a budget guitar for an unbelievable price I'm gonna buy it, doesn't matter what brand or guitar it is. Buy now, inspect later. I just bought a sunburst Strat copy with a maple fretboard too, it's quite ironic, really.

"Buy now - inspect later" ^^ Otherwise you rarely win the bid. And if the price is right... right.
Thank you for your comment. And congrats to your last purchase. I hope you'll have fun with it.

Amazing copy, as most stuff coming from overseas in the 70's looked unlike actual Fenders or Gibsons and was crap, but this has hope and potential as a partscaster.

Almost all guitar magazines say that 70s Japanese guitar copies often times were as good if not better than the originals. Not to forget that Fender, Gibson etc. officially let Japanese manufacturers produce parts for their "US" guitars. The same companies and the same facilities that produced the copies. I'm pretty sure that not every Japanese guitar was of high quality. But you simply can not generalize in this case.

@@M-GuitarsAmerican or Japanese, those older guitars involved much more handcrafting and as such could be very idiosyncratic...we like to romanticize the guitars of the past, but I've played many vintage instruments and let me just say one thing...if you find a good one, don't let it go

    • @M-Guitars

@@jasondorsey7110 Thank you for your comment. If it's crap, it's crap. And I'm fine with it as long as I didn't pay a fortune. I'm also a nostalgic person. But I wouldn't idealize something just because it's old. This Kasuga really just feels right. It's a keeper.
But I have to admit that I don't want to play a modern guitar. To me it has to be from a specific era. Otherwise it's not appealing to me. Same with cars etc.

Was that A Forest you were about to play?

I was playing a guitar built with wood out of a forest. But if you mean a song called "A Forest"...never heard of it before. :)
