Hahaha I spent so many years as a kid sailing dinghies up the narrow channel between this boat and the breakwater trying to extend each tack as far as possible without holing the side of this boat and her neighbor, Alchemy. Good to see she's being kept in good nick :D
I don’t often comment on TH-cam videos, but in this case it feels warranted. I have the Canadian version of this boat, but in name only. I have a 1971 Hughes 29 named “Taxi Dancer”. I paid $5,500 for it 4 years ago, and have been making my own arduous but humble attempts at refitting since then, including a paint job 2 weeks ago that finally replaced the chalky banana yellow gel coat and 50 years worth of chips and scratches. It would be silly of me to attempt any real comparison of these 2 boats, but I think the name “Taxi Dancer” is worth noting. People are often puzzled by the name. The original owner of my boat was apparently a Canadian soldier stationed in England during World War II. When large numbers of soldiers were packed off to a dance, they would have to pay local women a fare for each dance, hence the term “Taxi Dancer”. The gentleman I purchased the boat from wanted to change the name, but his wife thought it was the perfect name for a boat and pointed out that every time he took her out (the boat), he was going to have to pay.
I helped deliver Taxi Dancer from Santa Barbara to San Francisco Yacht Club with the owner and one other guy back in the mid 90's. The boat is all carbon fiber including the toilet just in front of the mast. It was delivered to SFYC for the Transpac Race.
@@Domestic_Tourist I was on it in about 1993 give or take a year. I think he owned a car dealership but am not positive. I only went on that one trip. He had one full time crew that also maintained the boat. It was an end tie next to the jetty.
Where r the lee cloths not to get thrown across the boat that's a lot of way to fall of course many sails r in the main cabin to sleep amongst. Thanks for the tour. mb e27
Hi guys. What a amazing boat boat ! I'm just thinking about the low friction ring on the running backstay. Is not very good for the winches, no? thank for the nice video.
Most toilets on these big buck sailing boats are right out in the open, no enclosure of any kind...and the toilets are made of priceless custom carbon fiber. Pretty much screams "no #2's here!" Fuck racing.
you're funny. i've done two transpacs on sleds - one on taxi, the other on starship (we broke our boom). I've done cabo on the n/m 68 maverick, and again on starship. and i've done cabo, pv and transpac on a sc 52. i know what i'm talking about.

What a great walk through. Thanks Scott.

@@SailingAnarchyUSA I have posted a picture on Pinterest that can be found if you search “Hughes 29 sailboat”.
Great story definitely a fitting name for a boat lol

Another great video, glad you visited Santa Barbara...
Wow, what a beauty! And thanks for filming these in 4k. It takes all of the 4k's to capture these gems for sure!👍
informative and entertaining as usual. Drooling back here on my tiny lake.
thanks man!
Beautiful boat!
so beautiful john reichel has always drawn the most beautiful boats. if i had the dough, i would go straight to them for a design.
Scot, Love the videos! Keep up the great work.

“Not going anywhere” - mandatory 2 Pat.
Was wondering what happened to that mast!! Very cool and iconic SB yacht!
Nice. Thanks!
I want to know what the back of you're shirt says. You already inspired my purchased of a FU45 shirt.

You delivered it with my current boss!
@@Domestic_Tourist Were you the guy that I went with on that trip?
@@robertlaird6746 I didn’t go on the trip but Mr. Rouse commissioned the boat to be built in around 89’?

@@robertlaird6746 wow, very cool!
Growing up In Long Beach in the 80's I thought this was the coolest boat in the bay. Maybe second to Ragtime
Titanium stanchons and pulpit sure look nice!

this guy is a legend, come down to Oz and do Wild Oats XI, Scallywag and InfoTrack

Leaving keys on deck so they get kicked off and you have to stay with that boat, smart! 😁
same day one of the camera crew lost his glasses overboard. good spot
@@SailingAnarchyUSA Great video and super cool boat. Thank you!
You need to check out Portugal's JV 56 Giulietta 2
linky?
would you keep the spinnaker pole on a refit ?
Finally I know how much I always mispronounced Reikel - Puff.
And where is the engine?
So there's no door on the head? What a beautiful boat but I'd be pissed if I was woken up by the smell of my shipmates dookie

makes the navy look like a cruise ship. none of the race boats have privacy plus its pretty glorious crapping off the back while surfing
Bucket and chuck it is still the way to go - the toilet is simply to meet the race rules so not really to be used in anger
Carbon sucks
Way to brittle for those wild and uneven loads.
"Stripper pole"?... The moral compass isn't really working now is it?...
I don't think Sailing Anarchy has ever sailed on a sled. I used to race on Holua and Mike Campbell's boat. This guy sounds clueless.
