I believe Kumb Mela is an example of India's rich heritage and culture. Billions of people gather at same time, same place for the common purpose represent integrity and believe in Indian ancient mystical and divine powers. In the end Kumb mela is all about what we believe, what we carry, what we respect and what we are, Proud Indians!!!

I was invited to go to Haridwar for Kumbha Mela 2010. Health concerns held me back, remembeing my first trip to India, and how everybody became sick. I just don't have the immunities that the native people or locals have from years of living in their environment. It is amazing to observe the different customs and beliefs of different cultures.

When you are close to divine nothing is impure. And that is the feeling one has .. after a holy dip n Ganges. Those who abuse the saints and these holy places of India, can never understand our feelings. so no point arguing and abusing each other. I love my country and its wisdom, heritage.

As a Muslim from Afghanistan I beliveve tha every human being is free to follow his/her own religion and practice their own beliefs. In the last chapter of Quran it is clearly written that let everyone practive their own religion and everyone will be judged according to their own beliefs/books. I believe that there is only 1 creator with different names (Allah, God, Goth, Bagwan, Aloha,Khuda) and etc. Prophet Mohammad said: " Best human being is that who respects others and their religions".

    Hi Sam
Only a few of the male devotees are naked. Naked as in wearing nothing at all. Most males bathe in a sarong or a lungi. This is the traditional way.
Have you never wondered why so many people find the sight of naked people offensive. It is the way we are born so why is it offensive.
    Thanks for asking.
I am not Indian or hindu but I do have a great respect for things Indian and things hindu, though I do find some aspects distrurbing. Caste and untouchability being the main ones.

I understand that you are a person with an investigative zeal. So I would recommended two areas you should open your attention to. I am not trying to prove anything but I guess it would be of your liking. 1. Advaita vedanta (Non- dualism) 2. Neem Karoli baba. On advaita wiki gives a good topic discussion. And after you feel comfortable with the subject, there is a book in amazon called, " I am That by Nisargadatta Maharaj". Enough data available from Google and you-tube on both.

There are more to than what you see. Naga sanyasins show more detachment. Detachment to the world and its manners, is the highest sought after virtue. They can be seen only in these times and otherwise they are in deep forest on meditation. Detachment is so extreme in them that they no longer care about clothes or appearance or being tidy. Hindu philosophy is more complex and difficult to grasp if you don't put so much effort into it but its worth knowing.

You may ask if I would want my mom or sister to wear a bikini, I see how you bring the situation to a personal point of view. How you choose to be, you be, how others are, do not curse or judge them. Practice non-violence, you are not right nor are they wrong.

  • @20dewdrops

I understand your point of view. But detachment is the most difficult thing to practice what ever name you call it; laziness, stupidity or what so ever. Even if its laziness, being away from people you love, don't keep anything close, as you may tempted to keep is an extreme mental control. There was a wandering monk, who never stayed in a place more than 3 days, fearing an attachment to the place. So you can call it craziness but some things are beyond our logic.

Please think with your own brain , not with others. From Adam the father of human being to MUhammed the last prophet , thre was about 2 lakhs prophets has come to earth to bring the messages from the God. All of the human has to receive the message from the God. So you may read quran and hadith without prejudice.then you can find out successful fath.

I am srry man but I dont agree with ur view. especially ur viewpoint that if ur really indian u shouldnt use this language. We Indians are typically hypocrites. One promotes use of no foul language but the same might go to his government job to collect bribes. and seriously man if we hindus really consider ganga a mother plz treat her like one if not then dont call her a one. I have seen wht happens at the shores.

if you have nothing , how can you practice detachmente? Only being sorrounded by many things can you practice detachment. These Nagas are just useless people. Take as an example Buddha. After his enlightenmentr he was undicided og he should teach or not. But out of compassion he decided to help other people.
Have a looklat the Thai forest tradition, there you can find the rule of the 3 days.

Stop this nonsense guys..... Its a pure waste of time arguing about beliefs.........and sentiments. No one can prove a damn about which religion/belief is right. They are just some of trillions of possibilities to explain HOW & WHY we are here. So just follow what ever you believe, provided that it does not hurt others sentiments. LIVE and LET LIVE. The very basic principle of survival. Dont ignore it man....
