At first glance, I thought it looked similar to an indeterminate tomato, and then you said nightshade. I’ve seen these around, but had no idea as to the toxicity of the seeds. Thank you very much for keeping us informed! Great vid.
I made a double misidentification. I thought blue tansy was yellow Yarrow. I went to gather some in spring. There was also poison hemlock in the area, which looks a lot like blue tansy when it is small. I made tea of the poison hemlock, and strangely didn't feel any ill effects. Possibly because it was the small young leaves. It was actually very mild. I didn't realize my mistake until later that year when I saw the plants fully grown. Sometimes I wonder how poisonous the things we are told are poisonous really are. Not going to push my luck though!
I have a Datura growing in my yard big more bushy ones because of the dog poop area it's growing in makes it huge bush I cut it back before it grows too tall and that would make it fall over and be vine like then
If Im out around the plant when its hot and muggy I have felt light headed but I'm very sensitive to the nightshades I don't eat them because I get reactions to them I think there could be something let off when it's hot Just like when you break tomato leaves I'm sensitive to that too
Thanks for the Jimson weed outlook, and warning, something funny I used to visit my grand mother and they lived in a very rural area, there was a nieghbor that lived a great distance away they talked about that smoked the Jimson weed, they said you would see him coming down the road stumbling and falling in every direction because he smoked this plant, it looks like a flower that grew That got 5 foot tall, it had beautiful flowers that smelled wonderful, one day out family that lived in town at the time was walking to the bread store and passed by a building that was vacant but had these beautiful flowers growing with the seed pods about the size of a golf ball, Soo I thought the plant is dying and I could get some seeds ,not knowing what it was and what happened till I got home the police stopped by to warm me about the seeds as they were already dry I was going to keep them to plant for next year, they said no you better not because they shut the store down because of the many flowers that were blooming and going to seed, appearntly the owners knew what to do with them andsdeore money than the store, Later I found out they are similar to the poppy seed pods that make drugs, Soo I decided to leave that alone, it's funny to me that the store had this going on and made more money off this plant, they had a in town secret drug store going on and the contend were a cover, I'm not part of it soon I feel pretty safe learning about things like this, some things can kill you soon leave this alone.
Thank you! All of my life, since my family moved from my Pappaw's and Uncle's farm in Flaherty, KY, I've been so curious about the weird smelling plant with the large green sticker balls...I USED TO PLAY IN THAT AREA, right next to the barn!!!
Jimson weed messes with your pupils one will be dilated the other one tiny as a needle just by me and my sister taking pictures of them and admiring them very potent my sister was freaked out she went to the emergency room thinking she had a possible brain tumor. My pupils went wonky too but not as bad as my sisters.
Jimson weed grew all over the place in southern PA where I grew up. It was foul-smelling but gorgeous, and was probably the first and most frequently taught poisonous plant, second only to poison ivy. We kids would wonder and joke about the terrifying potential effects, but we all knew better. None of us wanted to experience virtual hell, with a side of potential death, (and actual hell)... ...mthrfkrs had me scared to death of death, and god..
It's good you guys were taught about it! I've had to tell multiple people who were looking for a quick high and wanted jimsonweed to NOT try it. After relaying the effects and the experience I've seen after some tried it, they thankfully backed off. Trust me when I say it's terrifying and while I'm not into making people afraid of plants, this is one I don't particularly mind instilling some fear about, at least for those looking to get high off it.
While I'm pretty used to the sting, I use another method to not get stung as much which allows me to touch them without getting stung, most of the time. The hairs orient themselves in an upward pointing position, generally speaking. So by grabbing below and then slowly raising my fingers I lay the hairs against the stem instead of directing the tips into my skin. This avoids the stinging most of the time. There will however be a wayward hair or sometimes I don't get it quite right or I accidentally touch the underside of a leaf and get stung that way. I'd say 80% of the time it works 100% of the time, lol!
The Butterweed? Yeah most likely. There are a couple other possibilities though. One would be Field Mustard and the other possibility is Wintercress. Those two will also have yellow flowers but have 4 petals typical of mustard species.
Thank you for this video. I live in central Indiana so I can recognize these plants, but didn’t know that all are poisonous. Now I know!
You're welcome! It's always nice to see another person in my area on the channel!

How do you touch the nettles with your bare hands? Did you just get used to the stings?

Is this what I see in may covering many fields in north central Indiana?

The jinsom was a plant used by native Americans for thousands of years for ceremonial……. Purposes.
Also called DATRUM, or MOONFLOWER in California
I think datura is the plant that the medicine men used to make their ceremonial drink to go on their spirit journeys with in Clan of the Cave Bear.
I'm pretty sure it was! Been a LONG time since I've read it though.
@@TrilliumWildEdiblesthat book is a load of b.....
Jimson weed grew in my prune orchard. It smelled bad. Easy to eradicate . Poisonous ? Well maybe/ maybe not. It did stink .
@@raycooper3269 , Yes, and the series turned into cave p^rn.
@raycooper3269
Well it was fictional, of course it was BS. Still enjoyable reading.
Wow I have butter weed. On to burn pile
YES!, IT LOOKS LIKE TOMATOE!
Yeah a lot of nightshades have similar leaves making identification tricky for some.
Dont eat it, your fine
Stramonium. The Homeopathic remedy covers the symptoms caused by this plant
This guy does that sing-song talk....ugh...so hard to listen to.....
The first one , I thought, was a weed. ( In the bin ) vote Democratic across America
