  • Ray Hayden here, going over the installation of caster wheels on our heavier furniture to make it easier to move things around, and for cleaning. In Part II, I will cover a different type of bottom, and how we account for the best mounting option for that piece of furniture.

    This is the best solution to move around furniture with ease.

      Thanks for watching! It makes cleaning up under and around it easy as well... I made sure the wheels are as far apart as I could to make sure I would avoid any tipping issues on large furniture.

    I think wheels should be on all the furniture so it is easier to move and clean under. This is a great idea.

      The alternative that we use are sliders, sometimes big ones that you can see sticking out under the furniture... the roll top desk has huge round disk sliders because it is so heavy, and they are the only things that work.

      No, you are correct in your note about lighter furniture - and less of it! You know, we have one of those sleep number beds, and I was going to make a video about how to take it apart - but it is so simple, that I decided not to! It is also incredibly light and easy to move - Bonus! Is it pricey - oh yeah, it was, but we have had it for about twenty years now - so... another bonus! LOL

    Plus it will reduce the risk of damaging the bottom when moving it! Great idea.

  • @Familytoyreport

    We have these "furniture movers" that are basically a square piece of wood with wheels. That's a great idea to just add them to the bottom of the furniture so that you can rearrange or move it a lot easier.

    If the kitties are making messes you may want to get the kitty/kitties to vet because cats can actually get bladder infections! I never knew that until I had a cat that got one. Antibiotics given-straight back to normal. Thanks for info on casters- exactly what I needed.

    • @rayhayden
      @rayhayden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for stopping by! Our kitties are fine, we have had a large number of rescued cats over the years. Now we are down to 13 of them. Some don't use the litter box all the time, others use it all the time, and we have one cat who uses (for urine) a single box we have with no litter in it.... odd boy! All the cats are good, and we take them in to our local vet as need be - they are amazing, and take excellent care of our cats for us!
      We moved from that house to one further north, and we have a good amount of land around our house, the neighbors have horses, pigs, goats, cows... a good number of cows!... so our cats remain inside for safety, we have gators and bears and such around us here.

      That is hilarious... I wonder how our cats would do if I put wheels on them! Our bird cage has wheels on it, and the cats jump onto the cage (we put a blanket on there for them), and the cage moves... that is fun to watch!

      We used to have a lot of the other types of cat trees, but they beat them up so badly over the years, we went with this version... the price per cat tree is very high, but they last so much longer! Kitties love them!

    I have a caster with a hood. The stem was bent, so i pried it off from the caster (using several tools and a vice!)in order to straighten it. Is there a trick to getting it back on? I tried a hammer, but it didn’t work. Any suggestions?

    • @rayhayden
      @rayhayden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an issue like this with a smaller caster (for a bird cage), Casters with a stem will have either a hole that they fit in, and some sort of device on the stem that locks them into the hole (mostly for wood stuff). Other casters might have a stand alone guide hole (like my bird cage). I could not find any casters that would do the job I needed it to do, so we ended up purchasing a much larger stem caster set of wheels, and I used the wire shelf below the cage. I mounted strips of hard plastic and used washers and screws to make it work... it is not great work, but (for now) it does the job.
      I would have to see it, but if it "needs" a device that provides the stability hole for it, then you'd have to have that as well.
      Another issue is getting the thing into the hole, as you see, it is not always easy to do. We can't go hammering away at the wheel, which is the last place to actually force the caster stem into the receiving hole.
      I would personally check with the stores and see if someone has a good solution for that type of scenario.

    Down stairs I have a slate floor & space is tight. I did the same with our entertainment center. I do not have cable access in that area of the house & was considering cutting cable. I can make monthly car payments for what I am paying for cable🤔. By any chance do you have a model # for that antenna? I would like to give it a try.
