The Story of Azur Lane in an Hour

- Or less!
I've summarized the entire story of Azur Lane up to Martyrium!
This is my first video and I'm rather torn about how it came out. I like certain parts of it, but my pacing is... a little fast. Subtitles are available!
Anyway, thanks for checking this out!
This literally took years.
I'm not 100% happy with it... It's my first video, after all. Little bit of information overload and zoomer editing aside...
But I might have a couple ideas for future content that will be better.
Still, hope you all get something out of it!
First video, damn good job
It was alright Flow. Despite being kinda clunky, it was still digestible for us viewers.
its absolutely fine for something that you want to compress down to an hour long, unlike the other AL story recap that is 3 HOURS long and doesnt include anything beyond, i believe 2020 or 2021, bcs the video is released ages ago at this point. and honestly the only thing i'd change is that you encourage people that cares for it to pause a lot and turning on and off CC constantly, if they used it
atleast this probably the best recap of azur lane in short form so far dude you did a great job
Excuse me for asking but in the beginning like in 0:30 where did you get the documents or something like that i really wanted to read it bruh but i don't know where to find them
Garnt creating the FATE timeline lecture: "this Gacha lore is very complicated"
Full Flow: "hold my beer"
Truly respec for full flow who enter this conveluted lore of azurlane 😂
Lord have mercy on your soul fornot only having interest in the lore but actual dedication to even make the video in the first place, massive respect. I'll definitely watch watch this at some point while I'm farming cause I've always wanted to know whats up with the games lore (I'm a sucker when it comes to time travel, multiple realities, predestined paths, trying to a timeline, anything related with the idea of time manipulation is stuff I love), its my first gacha and still my fav to this day but I just can't handle lore in gacha games since I'm not that keen on reading. I've been hoping manjuu would make an anime that actually focused on the battles and major plot threads instead of the slice of life stuff they've been doing lately but this video shall suffice. Thank you very much dear sir!!!!
If you’ve watched the AL promo anime, the plot is kind of covering it which I think is really cool. Took a few years but it’s cool😂😂
Do you believe in Fate?
It took me a couple of years to figure out that we play as commander in two different time lines. The main timeline and the "slow ahead" time line that is basically peaceful except when the sirens dump cossover characters into azur lane and give them rigging, just to test new designs.
I also think the TB daughter stuff will turn out to be important. We know she (or some version of her) becomes Observer Zero, and is already connected to the sirens in some way. It makes sense that if we raise her to love humanity and us, when she becomes a siren, hopefully she'll stay on our side. If that sci-fi reality could manage to work with their own sirens, we might too. Playable sirens eventually?
Amazing effort being made here, although most players would skip the story, I think it is nice to have a video like this going through the events' story so far. Visual ques are on point too.
You did a great job formatting the different event stories into a complete storyline here too and I can feel the passion put into this.

I silently put Memphis in a hug
Finally fixed... after a year
Very, very cool of you to spend as much time as you did putting this all together, it's very amazing; There's a lot of high concept stuff going on within Azur Lane, and it makes it really hard to follow along when I started as the Martyrium event began. Very late in the story, and if I had to have any gripes with the game, it's that there's no real easy way to get ingratiated with the story from the game itself, which is a big shame. You've helped greatly in piecing things together, even making me aware of something I was puzzled on (Renown and Repulse being confusing in the Pledge event). What a messy localisation @_@. I even get to understand the answers that the current event (Windborne Steel Wings) has given out thanks to your video.
Now this video is a certified banger. You've certainly earned yourself that sub and i'm curious to see your future content.
I really appreciate this, I swear right after I quit(like 2-3 years in) they finally started dropping the lore bombs... It seemed like just random disconnected event stories with no visible overarching plot when I played. The writing of the events itself was honestly pretty solid but I needed some kind of (preferably chronological) plot progression. Perhaps my brain was just too smooth to get it.
But ever since quitting I occasionally seeing people talk about the new lore and it looked insanely interesting.
Bruh, 13:13 is seriously my most hated anime trope of all time "lets keep vital information secret because the writers said so!" Gacha games love this trick. I swear they could have come up with a more logical dialogue while still keeping us in the dark without any extra effort.
After finishing the video, the lore is what I would call "fun to know, probably wouldn't have been fun for me to learn". A bit messy for my taste. I will probably wait for AL to finish before seeking out new info
Man you deserve an award for this.
I love how whenever Souryuu META is encountered, she is seen with an emotional support Hiryuu pawn and nothing else is explained LOL.
0:55 Factorio mentioned!
Excellent Video! Very detailed and throughout. So excited to see someone tackle the lore of this game after so long. I hope this videos success motivates you to keep up make content. Can't wait to see more in the future!
Amagi return dude 🔥
Will probably have to rewatch this to catch some things I missed. But this is great! Hopefully the new lore drop with the 6th aniversarry doesnt wreck all your hard work. Having played through it I think it doesnt? Feels like it slots in at the very end or near to it.
I haven't fully gone through the current event yet but (corrupted?) Amagi is featured prominently and Orochi is noy only name dropped but a ship near identical to the one in the anime is the boss of stage 3.
Im so grateful for this video. Holy Iris' blessings upon you.
Imma be real. I watched it twice, my brain is fried, and I'm confused. Good vid. Despite my failure to understand it properly lmao
Where is the summary? Give It to me! I wanna read that!
This is great.
Helena Meta is solo carrying the entire plot, it seems
HelMet stole it from Saratoga, or passed the torch since they first met in Mirror Involution (Souryuu my beloved 😢)
@@themarky2714 stolen is correct bcs its far more fitting for a META to do so rather than anyone else, prob 2nd only to straight up Antiochus and also Saratoga just got shafted after HelMeta appears. the only way rn for Saratoga to have an impact is to pull absolute bs and magics. while im not going to be surprised if that will be the case in the future or even near future, i would still call it bs
why do every booba gacha game lore always goes deep
Ah yes, Chinese Gacha games story goes deep and well written for no fucking reason whatsoever but I am not complaining
NIKKE too
>first video
>absolute banger
ong
Bro sad news just came in:
Atsuko Tanaka, Tirpitz's & Hood's VA passed away
Now the current event: "Somehow Amagi returned..."
Man seriously thank you for this fantastic recap, i consider myself an "AL Lore Nerd" but this made everything fit together and make much more sense even for me.
Fantastic video which i will now link wherever anyone asks about AL's Story.
Speaking as someone who played briefly, left for awhile, and came back after like five years of story events missed... VERY helpful. =P
As someone who knows nothing about the lore, I appreciate this, as well as the various references:
1:15 HEY SHIKIKAN KENTO DAYO
2:18 Drake meme but it's HMS Drake
8:55 Bismarck watches the IB navy being a trainwreck
9:26 Roasting Sardegna (they had a capable navy tbh, leadership let them down irl)
10:23 what doesn't kill you gives you your own UR event (also applies to Zweimarck xD)
11:05 WH40k Khorne reference
12:18 the Royal Navy ruining Iron Blood's day
14:10 reference to many IB ships never actually being constructed irl
19:22 Gneisenau META plz adopt me + headpats
21:23 FdG spawns KENTO DAYO
22:03 Siren gaming PC
23:00 RN's rescue team for rescue team (Revenge's design is peak)
25:41 damn, TIL Anchorage talks like a child because she has an intellectual disability. I wonder if Unicorn has the same problem. What about some of the DDs? So many questions...
...and so on. Great video, thank you! I hope to see more videos about the lore in the future as I don't have time to read the stories in-game.
why so low? up you go!
The rest of azur lane: WAR IS HELL
TB: I must win the sports day!
The most scary superimposition so far is the anime slowly superimposing on the main story, clearly /s.
Also happy or not. I think this video came out great. This is a one-of-a-kind. You managed to concisely explain the entire story as a singular "whole" rather than listing it off by events without making them naturally flow into one another and overfilling with dialogue filler. Which is honestly quite great since AL's story is a bit of a puzzle piece strewn all over the place.
This saves me so much effort trying to explain things to newbie friends who want to comprehend it.
Edit: The absolutely massive amount of visual aids (And memes) are extremely appreciated as well and probably make a good majority of the high points of the video.
69th!
I’m a day 1 SKK and play for the unique lore more than anything, but with so much they’ve thrown at us, I’m sure I’m have to refer back to this one day instead of replaying all event Memories for hours, so thank you 😭🙏
Welcome aboard!
Amazing video its by far one of the most comprehensive videos about the Azur Lane lore I have ever seen it’s just wow so we’ll made from it being I “think”understandable to players who don’t follow the convoluted events and trying to make heads or tails from said events, to it still being a great watch to people like me who know whats going on but the enjoyable editing and memes makes it worth a watch and a re watch to catch all the references truly outstanding, anyways keep up the great work can’t wait to see more and for what little it’s worth you just got a new sub.
Thanks! This was more or less born out of the fact that the lore community really needed something easy like this. Hawk had his 3hr video, but that's now years out of date and a lot of it hasn't aged well... So it was "I'll just do it myself, how hard can it be?"
Two years later and that was very silly of me, lol.
I think I'll be focusing on event-by-event coverage going forward. It should age better and allow me to go into theories and translation issues. Rather then blowing them off for the sake of time. Still considering how I'll handle it, though.
Great to hear you plan on continuing and focusing in event by event coverage especially the translation part as though I do keep up whit the lore it’s mostly trough reading the events in the global server so I’m to the point I completely ignore when they mention “re-enactments” and “naval hq” put really important info gets lost, example still to this day I don’t 100% understand what happened in Unzen’s event “other than the riss being in the other foot” , or why they didn’t originally help out Renown and Repulse Meta in Vanguard’s event, or even recently I didn’t knew the hull boosting crystal where fake, I know theres answers in CN or JP but I think it’s isn’t the most accessible thing out there especially compared to a YT video or reading the in game logs.
@@FullFlow4610 I joined AL pretty late (HMS Vanguard's event) and thanks to Hawk2zer0 3hrs vid, I learnt a lot + managed to catch up on the lore. In my opinion, the plot started to get super interesting from Clemenceue's event, but unfortunately, it seems that Hawk is kinda busy and won't make a sequel to that 3hrs vid anytime soon.
Your vid is concise, informative and the way you tell story makes it really enjoyable to watch
I hope after ~3 more years you will make a sequel to this vid. Thanks a lot for your hard work!
What a mad lad. Love your video.
I like how Azur Lane's initial story was just following the WW2 IRL to just more sci-fi stuffs which I liked it.
Any plan for a collab with Hawkzer0 for more lore stuffs? (wink, wink). 😆
Nothing atm.
Hawk was one of the people I sent this to for feedback, but real life hit him hard. So I just pushed it out.
For now, I usually provide translation checking and theories in his AL streams. I don't believe he's up-to-date on lore past Martyrium, so I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow.
And yeah! Rereading a lot of old events, you can see they had a general idea of what they wanted at least as far back as Fallen Wings. We slowly deviate from irl history as the Siren's script stops being absolute. So there's even a reason for the shift which I think is neat.
@@FullFlow4610 Fallen Wings got re-written last year though
@@hassathunter2464 Only the English localization was fixed. CN was not affected whatsoever. EN back then was machine translated from Chinese, resulting in a lot of mistakes and missed context.
Heck, Zero even got called "Ling." "Ling" = "zero" in Chinese. Directly translating names (Or not at all) is a common error of mtl programs. My favorite is how Sakawa's name sometimes translates to "the drunkard" in Google Translate.
Likewise, Aoste's EN name, "The Magister," wasn't settled upon until after Ashen Simulacrum. EN has called him several different names, including "Master Arbiter." The "Inquistor" mentioned in the old version is another rough translation of his name in CN. Which directly translates as the "Judge". The entire point of the rewrite was to bring it up to current standards. Not change the story.
Thanks for your summary, now i'm able to understand AL world after 5 years playing
Azur Lane is wild and tougher among all gacha storyline.
It like you against eldrich being super super super computer with experience kill timelines successful.
The community needed this, King
Mad respect my guy for a very amazing and dedicated video about the interesting mess that is AL Lore. Looking forward to what you can cook up next
What I have learned:
- X is the Honkai. (The more you know, the stronger and harder to deal with they become.)
- Bismarck is the Gru Meme.
- What the heck Watatsumi is so that I can shake off the Genshin ideas.
- New Jersey is SKK's Childhood Friend.
- Marco Polo is a cultist.
- Amagi is buried in a tree.
- Helena META is doing a lot.
- CONCEPTS!
...and now, Kaga IS a tree. Press F to pay respec.
You gave us a "flashback of of dread" when the name Orochi was dropped, but in Sakura Empire "4-way" battle Kaga apparently showed anime-esq power by summoning a fox? I feel like there was "flashback of of dread" opportunity there.
You are one insane fellow
I appreciate it though, never really knew what was going on
I’ll watch this when I’m farming, thanks
Edit: wait this is your first video?!? Jesus Christ, what a way to start making videos lol. Good job thought you were like a veteran at editing and making videos for a minute
This video has honestly rekindled my interest in the lore of AL. Especially with this new event, being able to understand everything and all the complex names and topics the characters say makes events much more enjoyable. Fantastic video sir!
Scapa Flow/Rondo At Rainbow's End really was the turning point for the story. I am glad though that the Sirens didn't stay the main antagonists after that, and the real villains we're finally dealing with are the Leviathans (aka X) and Bonne Homme
heh, honestly id love an updated and/or extended version of this in the future, one where more small details and future plot updates are gone over. cant wait to see where you go in the future!
Awsome bro, as someone who played for a long time and have no clue where each lore belongs, this sure helps me understand more (Helpful/10)
Was looking for such a video for quite a while. Overall nice work, helped a lot.
Waiting for someone to come here and say "The Commander is a They, do not refer as He, the global translation is wrong".
Exactly the source are a select few from the discord.
Holy peak (I can make myself more of a nerd)
As much as I love azur lane and play it alot, I had no clue about half this stuff more interesting than I thought.
I just started last week to read all the event memories since I skipped some the first time. I'm up to Parallel Superimposition and will watch this when I'm finished to see what I missed.
I'ts pretts crazy how some of the later lore gets mentioned in the very first events like Akagi talking about the Creator in Visitors dyed in Red.
Also fuck keeping track of the Watatsumi getting shuffled around like its a pea in a shell game.
Holy shit, I just saw this video after finishing what I think is the first part of the *entire* Pacific Situation that sheds light to "Amagi". I started playing in the Yorkie 2 event but started properly reading lore after Khovorod of Dawn's Rime, so I am glad that I get to see what happened in previous events that have not reran yet or I have never witnessed.
I REALLY like digging into lore of games, and AL has taken me by quite a surprise so it's good to hear that other people are also as enthusiastic to the game's lore as I am (that lore bomb in the Martyrium was fucking insane).
I am definitely looking forward for more lore in the future.
As for the video itself, I think you did a pretty good job condensing...uh......7 years worth of event stories. I do hope you continue doing stuff like this in the future!
You just earned yourself a sub.
This video is a godsend for anyone who has started playing in the last year. Thanks for the great work. Appreciate the detailed notes.
non-linear storytelling? in my warship gijinka collection simulator? it's more likely than you think. great work setting all the important context first and omitting all the filler events.
what really holds ALs story back is how its entirely contained within events and how inconsequential most of the early events are to the current plot. if you try and just read it from the start you will just get nowhere and burn out from all the filler before you get to the good stuff.
this helps SO much with everything I've missed. Thanks so much!!
As someone who started playing a year ago i managed to understand what's going on, but not WHY is going exactly
Like understanding what's happening during ww2 but still wondering what's this "great war" everyone talks about and why is it that important xD
😅 As the guy who came up with the S.S. Boise and the Beach Summer 2020 event I want to commend you on reading all that lore. I quit because of how time intensive a passive, easy game became. I got Lil Zeppy on ny first day, she PWNd!
70% of problems can be prevented if Akagi just focuses on pursuing shikikanh D
Thank you for the love of all things good in the world you somehow managed to keep this within an hour! Got a friend of mine into the lore... Since it can be a lot to digest.
I'd say Cross wave is worth a play as it is interesting and seemingly the girls are still mostly in character. Just not a large roaster.
the video is soo long and i need to stop every 2 secondes to read everything, but damn thats sooo interesting, thanks for the work man !!
Am I the only one? Sees an Azure Lane. It has the word story.
My brain: ooh hawk finally updated it.
YESS, I was looking for a vid like this, I'll finally be able to know what the heck is happening with ma boats
Holy shit, the lore is *DEEP !*
Stopped following the story since like 2019, didn't know it's such a big mess lol
Finally, a compilation of an actually good story imo, this game has me hooked on the character designs and story, not really here for the gameplay lmao
Dude, amazing work. loved the video.
Very well done! Pretty much condensed everything for the past 6 years.
I know Scharnhorst META said they could never find Aoste or Anzeel in any timeline, but is there still a possibility of them being in Test Site Beta? Or maybe even Silver Fox ends up there?
Man this was one hell of a video. Ive been hanging around AL for little over three years and have always loved lore and backstory to everything. This was a really great video and I look forward to what else you have to say on the lore of AL. I would love a longer even more in depth video as i love those types of long form video essays.
Amazing video! I cannot even imagine how much work this took, superb job!
I just wish it was a bit slower, even knowing all the info, I feel my head spinning on how fast-paced it was.
You're an absolute madlad for doing this. Great job, shikikan.
I'm still glad there's still a coherent story to be made out of and even those who are willing to make sense out of it.
as a player for 4 years, the narrative itself is much left to be desired, but then again are you really playing this for the L O R E ? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
hope to see more from you! 💜
27:09 This is when I first started, ah memories.
11:03 I didn't know Akagi was Khorne's worshiper. And that means she's Heretic
I just started playing in June and I have no idea what’s happening…
i fucking love Pamiat meta such a bundle of chaos.
Is the timeline graphic disponible somewhere ? Can we get it ?
Great vid and with recent event yeah the anime is slowly coming to truth.
I played the game since global launch (now a lvl 150 skk) and used to be pretty invested in the lore at the start, reading everything each event had to offer. I have skipped most of the dialogue nowadays but I'm glad this video exists since the AL just seems insane wtf. Thanks for this amazing video. Only criticism I have is the pacing, since there's a lot of onscreen text to read that just zooms through without being given enough time..
Great video man! Hope you do more Azur Lane content.
And now imagine they make an MMO out of this where players ends up prototype ships that can freely switch rigging class - just catching up on the story if they wanted to include it as training simulation of what normal shipgirls went through as a training they'd have enough content to now invent anything new for years, lol.
I really love azur lane story , thanks
3:15 Did I just find an Archer reference in the wild? Damn, even among nerds it seems nobody actually watched that one.
The captain name who destroy pandora box really is John archer in game (AL referencing star trek).
Oh yeah John Archer is the 🐐
50:23 I'm still amazed that Rodney is so far above all the Meta's present in that event combined
Thanks so much for all the effort! Just visualizing the events laid out in a timeline already does so much in piecing together relevance and context of what they were even trying to tell us.
As someone who has played this game and never left, and finished all storylines, I still appreciate this because it really helps figure out how the timeline actually works, because it is not at all cohesive in the game itself, at least until Rondo at Rainbow's End, where the serialized occurrences have better reference points onward.
I know it is good work and that it was definitely a very hard task to resume all of this in one hour as a lore enjoyer myself, but I still wait for the mandatory "Hawk Seal of Approval".
God damn, this was pretty well done, no wonder it took literally years to make.
Amazing work, thanks for making this more understandeable, i only read the NP event stories as they seemed the most Lore focused, but this helped a lot.
Azur lane has A PLOT???
This 1 hour explanation is more complicated than a dude explaining explaining CoD Zombie for 6 hours💀💀
You deserve a like and a sub for this explanation
the gameplay and story is kinda ass stay for the ships
True. story is such clusterfuck and to overcomplicated that the only thing that kept this game afloat is the shipgirl design and their hot skin.
I love this video. You did a great job and there are so many easter eggs hidden in this video. I still dont unterstand the Story of azur lane AT ALL. Ok thats not true, you did help me understand stuff a little better. The Story telling of this game is just so over the place. I didnt even know that stuff isnt in order. Yea i had the guess sometimes. But the game makes stuff like that not very clear. I hope you will make videos like this for the future events as well. i was looking for someone to explain that stuff.
Such a good video. Really complex story, thanks for making this summary :)
Still have no idea what this is game/anime is about. Are they ships? Are they women? Or some radical mutation of both. And why the ships of the second world war, rather than modern ships? Did they fight a second world war, or some equivalent? Are they fighting it now? I'm more confused on this than ever. My only guess is that something this inane goes beyond reason.
Great job for your first video. Would you also summarise future events?
Finally somebody talked about the "Reenactments", I got SO tired of seeing the term used to make it look like a super smart 5D chess of factions but it gives the opposite effect.
Before watching this video: Azur Lane's story is confusing and incomprehensible.
After watching this video: Azur Lane's story is confusing but now less incomprehensible.
Good video though.
What in the Call of Duty Zombies lore is this? I didn't understand the lore before, now I'm now even more confused! But I do understand it slightly more. thanks for the video lol
I've played the game now for about 2½ years, I absolutely love the story, and yet, after watching this video, I find myself scratching my head, going "what....?" ;-)
Good. i play Azur Lane for 6 Year and never really read the story, until the last event with Amagi ( the first time i read the story) your video Realy helps Thank!!!
Thank god finally someone decided to make a full lore video about azur lane. I was so confused with the main campaign storyline, event storyline, secretary storyline and the anime storyline
You can safely count the anime storyline out, it seems..while the event storylines are series of actual main story so far in the game, to which the prelude of all things begins at the Operation Siren (hinting that we SKK and shipgirls we command are strong enough to break the cycle of perpetual war and see the real world out there).
And for "main campaign", that's nothing but reenactments staged by the Antiochus, gauging shipgirls' strengths left and right lol
@@Morgru I like to think that the "event storyline" Is like the second season to the "main campaign" storyline. That way is easier for me to understand.
I've been playing since 2018 but I didn't even read a single line of the game till last year I stopped playing it. How is this in my feed now?!
The fact that you can compress the lore and make in game lore sound interesting is amazing. But i have a little trouble whenever you speed up your pronunciation so i repeatedly pause and play to understand what you trying to deliver. English isn't my first language, in fact it is the 4th language (Bahasa Indonesia, Javanese, Arabic, English). So maybe it's just me having skill issue
