I've never had a 380 fail, including our Bersa thunder. A 380 kept me from being killed when I was carjacked and kidnapped all in one go, guy was having me drive out to BFE, had a gun on me the whole time. So for about 40 minutes I had to sneak my gun from my pocket. I hit the ditch knowing it would get his aim off me and shit happened quickly. A 380 is just as good as any other.
You are the type person we need to hear more from. I truly believe most self defense handgun experts have not actually been in a self defense situation where a firearm was used. Not taking anything from them, it’s just that their knowledge is more “classroom” based than “on the job” based (talking civilian vs civilian. Being a LEO or military is a whole separate category because most of us will never be, nor have been, operators/infantry or cops/agents). Great post and glad you made it out alive.
@@johncrone3612 I agree...civilian defense and LEO and or military are totally different objectives. You could be getting mugged pull out a mouse gun fire a couple non fatal 25acp rounds into the assailant and it scares him and he runs off that’s a success. We don’t need to incapacitate someone to be successful like law enforcement or military has to. 👌
Wow. What a story! Im replacing my Bersa with this Glock 42. I love the curves of the Bersa but its 'pokey' and heavy. I did my research and hands down the Glock won my money. The M&P or LCP just didnt cut it
My g42 is my favorite deep carry pistol of all time. I've used so damn many over the years and nothing compares. No reliability issues, great accuracy, I can shoot the heck outta it with no problems, and it fits in my pocket.
I’m getting one, I was gonna get a lcp ii but heard too many issues with the feed ramps, I don’t want to buy a gun and then have to polish the feed ramp- that’s prob the number one issue with them. I carry a p365 on my right side iwb but want a smaller caliber on my left side since Im ambidextrous, what pocket holster do you use with your 42?
@@scottfree6479 good to know, thanks for the input. luckily they’re pretty available in my area what pocket holster do you like for it? Was thinking of a vedder pocket or Alabama holster but wasn’t totally sure which is best. I’ll either pocket carry or have it in a paddle holster since I already have a p365 on my right iwb.
@@scottfree6479 Than why do you show so much dislike for it in your video? It seems you should have labeled your video differently like "Glock 42 pros and cons" instead of why the glock 42 sucks, than at the end build it up. Especially when you point out in the beginning of the video the reason the 42 and 43 are in holsters is because you carry them. Just a observation.
@@ryanp6072 I've bought both for my wife and the LCP is trash. The g42 is awesomely accurate and reliable. Also it fits most shooters (my wife is 5'5 and I'm 6'3)
Lol, some people can’t get past the Rambo mentality. The Glock 42 is a perfect CCW weapon, and far superior to small 9mm for the vast majority of people. Reliability and accuracy are what matters. A quick 2-5 shot volley deals with 99.9% of CCW threats and nobody is getting up from 3 rounds center mast no matter .380 or 9mm. The 42 easily converts to 8 round mags with magguts and HYVE +1 additions and adds very little size. So 9 (8+1) rounds is plenty for those worried about the 6 round mags. The 42 has FAR less recoil than smaller .380s and comparable sized 9mm, your accuracy is going to be WAY better.
@@cody_rightnow6137 Nice +p. So you can hit the bad guy and the innocent person behind them 10/10 You know they make self defensive hollowpoint rounds that are designed not to kill other people other than your intended target right You’re dead ass an idiot and a threat to the general public
Totally disagree with his implication that the Glock 42 isn’t a tactical weapon and is designed for Grandmas and wives. I’m a man who has a Custom Shop Kimber 1911 and a Micro 9mm. I use the Glock for concealed carry and it’s perfectly suited for such. It’s small, yet when loaded with a reliable self-defense ammo, it does the job. I’ve also added night sights.
@@phiiliprivers1097 "It does the job". Have you had to use it on defending yourself to know that? Just curious, because when anyone tells me it does the job, I'm thinking that just means it goes "bang" when you pull the trigger, but to me that is not "doing the job". The job is to put down an attacker, which most people have not ever had to do, thankfully. I also carry the G42 and I pocket carry with a pocket holster and extra mag in the other pocket. Some say it is too hard to pocket carry, maybe they all have smaller pockets than I do? I have no idea if it will do that job though, but I know it always goes "bang". I sure hope it will do its job if ever I need it for that. I like the g42 because I shoot it accurately even if rapid firing it. My .380 Bodyguard isn't nearly as easy to shoot accurately like that.
Glock 42 is a great little gun. I actually bought it because everybody has a 9 and I just like being different. My opinion: The spring is tight from the factory. Store it with the slide locked open for a month or two and use decent ammo. 2,000 rounds of Winchester white box 95 grain without one failure. Some also tend to limp wrist it and 380 just doesn't have enough blow back to overcome the limp wrist, not the guns fault. Finally if you've ever been shot with 380 acp please comment and let us know you agree with the "experts" saying it's not powerful enough. Thanks
@@darrengarcia4937 there are some modern loadings that meet or exceed FBI penetration and expansion standards . So, as our gunpowder and bullet technology edges forward, smaller cartridges become more viable
@@darrengarcia4937 I guarantee you that if you got shot center mass with a .380, you would either be dead or in intensive care. Either way, you wouldn’t be laughing.
i got a .22 in me, almost killed me. .380 is more than enough for an anti personal round. Besides, most people dont wear body armor around daily so power/penetration shouldnt matter much, if at all
I own most caliber firearms an atm I carry my little Rugar lcp with ext 7+1 in .380 which being fit an in shape an wearing athletic fit t-shirts im able to not worry about imprinting, I honestly don't understand these people who hate on a 380 considering I use the Hornady critical duty(not critical defense) so i feel confident if needed to defend myself! which love my main custom G19 truck gun
The fact that you carry it says everything. I carry mine every day. I live in Florida and it’s a perfect warm weather light clothing EDC. Yes I put Meprolight night sights and a Pierce Grip plus one extension. I’ve never had any malfunction from my G42 and I would recommend it to anyone.
The heat is a major factor in why I am considering the 42. The best gun is the one you will actually carry on you 100% of the time. An amazing gun with great stopping power that you put in the truck because it’s heavy and too hot to wear… is useless. Maneuverability is also a major factor when working outside.
I am bad to limp-wrist my G42, and the failures show it. OTOH, isn't limp-wristed fire a characteristic of the CCW environment? I can imagine lots of times when I might have to fire single-handed from an awkward position, and the old A-frame isn't possible. So my relationship with my G42 is ambivalent, like my wrist.
I love the Glock 17 because it handles like a dream. It's an over built 9mm so to speak. Glock applied those same principles to the 42. Whether it was intentional or not is another topic. But that's what was accomplished. Love my 42.
I have had the 42 & 43 for 4 years now. The 42 had some initial issues with WWB only. After a few hundred rounds, it disappeared. Ate everything else out of the box. Most people should avoid buying doodads for it, use the money for ammo, and shoot the damn thing!
9mm... Let me remain you something: 380 is 9mm Browning: 9×17 9mm Marakov: 9×18 9mm Luger: 9×19 38sp also 9mm 357mag also 9mm Yes some are more powerful than others and have a better stopping power and penetretion, but do not underestimate the one who holds the gun because 22lr can be more deadly in one shot. There are many 9mm, just choose the one you feel fine with. I love my glock 42
I found out my Glock 42 works flawlessly with the right ammo. 90 grain and above. Ideal for my Glock 42 has been 95 grain and above. Works well with all types of brands.
That’s right, everything (gun choice) is a compromise. The 42 is a great gun. It has a valid value. The pluses far outweigh the negatives. And THE only “neg” is that .380 is a bit less powerful than a 9mm. But a 9mm is less powerful than an RPG.
Disagree with your take and don't like the clickbait title. Shot both a G43 and a G42, I own the 42 for several reasons. The 43 is noticeably bigger and heavier, but shoots worse. It kicks quite a bit more for a marginal (if any) ballistic difference, meaning the 42 will put out more energy and damage toward your target quicker and more accurately because of faster/easier follow-up shots. In a real-life scenario, that is HUGE and honestly the only thing that matters. Past that, the 42 is just a more comfortable carry. The size difference isn't massive, but it's there and it is noticeable. At 5'9" 165 I'm not a huge guy, printing does become an issue with most weapons, especially 9mms and above. Trigger on the Kahr is way worse, plus it's heavier. Bersa Thunder was a good shooter IMO but size and weight an issue. LCP 1&2 are extremely harsh shooters with bad triggers and way worse sights compared to the Glock, although I will concede they are slightly more concealable. Bodyguard 380 has quite possibly the worst trigger I've ever felt in a pistol, it took all of two mags before I put that thing down and never touched it again. I don't know what to say with your "reliability" issue other than it was ammo or user error. Maybe both. Sometimes I alternate to a Taurus 605 loaded with .357s if I feel like having more punch. If it came down to it and I was carrying the Glock and had to use it, I have a feeling the person on the other end wouldn't be laughing and telling me I should've brought my .357.
there is 380 ammo produced that will do just fine for defense. Some getting 15" plus penetration and 2 1/2 plus wound cavities. The G42 has worked fine for me and I agree it does have its place and it may not be for everyone. I carry mine in my pocket all the time.
I had both. Sold the 43 because it was a bit heftier but think that the Underwood Xtreme ammo will do just fine in a 380 so kept the 42. It’s never had a malfunction, is accurate, and can easily pocket carry.
The trigger safety is mainly intended to keep the gun from firing when dropped on its heal. But of course it also functions to prevent trigger actuation from anything other than a direct trigger pull. "The trigger safety is designed to prevent the pistol from firing if it’s dropped or if the trigger is subjected to any pressure that isn’t a direct firing pull." -Glock, Safe Action System
Just watched a 42 vs. 43 video in which both used the same brand of ammo , different grain weights of course. Results were identical , the only thing that sucks is the higher cost of 380 ammo.
Lighter than a smith and wesson airweight, low recoil, reliable, can load 6+1 and carry two 8 round spare mags in a belly band holster. What’s not to like?
Have to agree with most of your observations on the G42. My GF struggled with feeding issues in hers until she changed her grip on it. It was very frustrating because she wasn't having any trouble at all with 4 other semi auto pistols. And I could shoot the G42 with no problem. Even when I was trying to make it malfunction, it wouldn't.
I've been everyday carrying (except at work) a G42 now for 6 years. It is stock except for tritium night sights. I have 5 different carry holsters for it (pocket, IWB, OWB, shoulder, ankle) to cover every situation. I practice with it every 3-4 weeks and it digests everything I feed it from FMJ to every brand of JHP self defense ammo out there. It has never failed to work and gives 3-4" groups at 15 yds all day long. Most of the time, I carry it in a OWB 1791 leather belt holster. At night, it sits on my night stand next to my wallet, keys, and Benchmade Infidel. It does everything I could ever ask of a CCW pistol including being light, comfortable to shoot, accurate, reliable and corrosion resistant. Should I ever need to use it, I'm 150% confident it will keep its end of the bargain.
I have carried a Glock 42 for a while now as my every day. I carry 2 extra mags. I have taken is though 3 classes and am taking it through another 3 over the next 3 weeks. I shoot it well, and I have found it to be very reliable. I train and carry with a 95 Grain JHP from Everglades Ammo and load it hot with 3.5 grains of Accurate #2. I have had 3 stoppages with it. One was the first time I shot it, I had a double feed. Then I have had two short cycles shooting it with my off hand which is just me not holding it tight enough. I know guys like to make fun of me at training, but I just do my thing and get better and better with my gun. And I see there groups with there bigger guns, and well... It's only the bullets that hit that will stop someone.
There is an easy test to see how hard the G42 sucks. Insert a 380 round, put the gun to your head, pull the trigger. Please report here with your results. I think the proof will indicate that it blows, and blows hard.
James Lotz you are so freaking right!! I get so tired of these people talking about how cheap guns suck! Or 380 sucks! Like you said! Stand in front of either one! Let's see what happen! Oh he pulled a Llama on me! That shit won't hurt!! Now if it was a colt! That would hurt!
Why is it when guys carry sub-par cartridges they always start with, "we'll stand in front of it." Or "we'll shoot yourself with it." I don't want hair spray sprayed in my face and I can still confidently say that a hair spray is a lousy self defense weapon.
.380 is a good round dudes talk shit because its smaller, just a pissing contest problem. Watch ballistics or even ballistics of the RIP round in .380, i have multiple calibers .380 is a very good round and is cheaper at walmart then 9mm idk where that idea came from. I spend more on 9mm. .40 was cheaper then 9mm last year now 40 is going up in price
@@riot8130 I don't know which Wal-Mart you shop at, but where I live in Kendall FL 9mm has always been much cheaper than any other centerfire handgun cartridge by a substantial amount. Having said that, I do agree that the .380 is an effective round when using the best loads out there.
My G42 is great. So much fun on the range. Super easy to carry. Great gun and from a business perspective, i think a great idea for glock to come out with a single stack .380 before a 9mm. Highly recommend G42. Great Video
I am in the "I love my Glock 42" camp. I have also had a totally different experience regarding reliability with my 42. Both my friend and I bought our 42s at the same time. This was roughly 3 months ago. We have been shooting nearly every week of that time. We have shot about 12 different kinds of ammo. I don't know the exact amount of ammo we have put through our G42s but it would be conservative to say 1500 rounds each. There has only been a single malfunction from either pistol. I had one stovepipe, and that was when I tried out the +2 mag extension from Strike Industries.
Mostly 95 grain ammo. I just buy whatever is on sale. Lots of Winchester White Box, Blazer Brass, American Eagle, Agulia, etc. I have shot some with 90 grain and some with 100 grain.
Chumgeyser I'm happily in this camp as well. I was willing to give it a try when it came out and I didn't hear a single good thing about it (all from people who hadn't even touched it). I was thrilled to find a very small 380 that was an absolute joy to shoot. This thing has such little recoil, I love it.
Tyler Andrew I totally agree Tyler. The Glock 42 is one of the nicest shooting guns I own. I think there were issues with the G42 when it first came out, but since then Glock has made stealth improvements. I believe the new G42s are as reliable as any Glock... and I have read that the G42 has the shortest reset of any Glock.
I will say this about the 380: I made the Ruger LCP2 mistake. I traded it in for a LCR in .38 Special and it came with the Crimson Trace laser grips, which is a nice little feature. Yes, it is only a 5 shot vs the 6+1 in the LCR2, but I *KNOW* for a fact that those five are going to fire everytime I pull the trigger. With the LCR2, if you limp wrist it in any way, you are going to either fail to eject or fail to feed, no matter what ammo you run through it. In self defense scenarios, you may not always be able to hold it stiff armed and with both hands. And those statistics you rolled out say that I am not going to need it anyways. Reliability trumps all
I did a lot of research before choosing the Glock 42 and now that I carry one I’m not the least bit disappointed. It’s the perfect size and weight for deep concealment and backup and has all the manual of arms as the full sized Glocks that I’m used to. It has real sights and a real trigger unlike all the other pocket 380’s I’ve tried. The Glock 43 is noticeably bigger and heavier than the 42. The modern 380 is as powerful as the 9mm that was used extensively throughout Europe in ww1 and ww2. And that took a lot of lives. Get your facts strait and quit being insecure. As capable a shooter as you are you can get necessary shot placement and this pistol and round has its place. So if you don’t personally like it don’t get it. I however, don’t care for your troll baiting approach. You’re turning into “yankee Marshall” and that’s clearly an act of desperation.
I shot an 85 pound pig from about 20' away with my G42 and federal HSTs. It went through the front of the skull, through the brain, through the back of the skull, down the neck muscle, chipped 3 vertibrete and lodged in the should on the scapula. Perfect expansion, still have the bullet. 85lbs may not be a huge hog but I would say it's physiology is comparable to humans. I'll take those results from a self defense pistol any day.
The Glock 42 is a SWEET pistol. It shoots like a dream and is accurate. I got the 7 round ETS mags and added Stryke Industries +2 extension with pinky rest which gives it 9+1 capacity! I also added trijicon fiber optic sights and a tungsten guide rod for reduced recoil. Shots on target are of utmost importance! I’ve put many rounds through it and never had a malfunction including shooting it in IDPA Bug competition. I did let a new shooter try it and it did have a failure because she limp wristed it. GREAT gun and my EDC of choice for reliability, comfort and ease of concealment. Loaded with Underwood Extreme Defender it is a wicked self defense gun. Even invisible front pocket carry with a Sticky holster. Get one!
When this video first appeared and I saw the title I was pissed - before I realized that I misunderstood it. I’m so glad I watched the video. The review was very thorough, balanced, and relevant to a ccw carrier.
My every day carry is a Glock 42 with Trijicon HD XR Night Sights and a 9 round ETS magazine fitted with an XGRIP for a full three-finger grip. I load the magazine with 8 rounds maximum, plus one in the chamber, to ensure 100% reliability. Ammo of choice is Underwood Extreme Penetrator 380+P. This combination has very little recoil, is very controllable and EXTREMELY accurate! I carry it 24/7 in a DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster and honestly it's so light and compact that I forget it's there. The best self-defense pistol is the one you never leave home without!
I recently bought a G42 for a backup/emergency gun. You can't put it in your Levi's pocket but you can in cargo pants or the inside pocket on a Duluth vest. If it were any other Glock I would upgrade the trigger. The only trigger that is worse is the one on the PK380. A subcompact 380 is not worth customizing unless it's your only gun. I like the sights, yeah they are plastic but I put every round in the 4 or 5 ring on the Army pistol target at 15 yards never having fired it before. The pistol works for me as is for what I bought it for. If you are competent you should be able to pick up any pistol and shoot it effectively for self defense as is.
Sorry, but my only complaint about the 42 is its capacity. I kinda “fixed” that with the Strike Industries Glock 42 Enhanced Magazine Plate Extension to increase my mags from 6 to 8. Honestly, any mag that’s 10 or higher ruins the look and feel for me. If the Walther PK380 didn’t have the issues it has, I would’ve seriously consider that over the 42. But the 42 is just a great and well made gun.
I guess I am fortunate that I am a big guy at 6'2". My carry guns are almost all Glocks. My favorite is the Glock 26. Even with the Pearce Grip extended magazine I have no trouble concealing them in my pocket in a horsehide holster. It carries 12 in the magazine and one in the pipe. I even keep Crimson Trace Lasers on them. Some have the side laser, while others have the laser in front of the trigger, and I still have no trouble concealing. In nearly two decades I have never had any malfunction in those or any of my other Glocks. I have a $2000 STI 2011 in .45 ACP (not including add-ons), and that gun has never been 100% reliable, even after multiple trips back to the factory. If you MUST know your gun will fire then a Glock is hard to beat. I reload for them and once with a really weak load I had a failure to cycle on my Glock 19, but other than that I haven't had a single stovepipe, or failure to fire, feed, or eject. I trust them as much as I do revolvers.
I bought my g42 in the Fall of 19 so it has the latest mods. I considered other guns but I wanted something small enough to pocket carry but big enough where it fit my hand so I could actually enjoy shooting it. The g42 fit the bill perfectly for me. For the purpose, the 43 was just a smidge too big for my pocket. The way the micro pistols fit my hand I knew I wasn't going to like shooting them. I love my 42.
You can’t pocket carry a Glock 42? lol That’s ridiculous. 🤣😝 My G42 rocks and it easily pocket carries with a Streamlight TLR-6HL in a kydex Vedder pocket holster. Sure, my LCPII is lighter and slimmer, but the 42 is more robust and I trust it more than the little Ruger.
A .380 is not "inherently less reliable." I've fired it through my Beretta 84 and 85 with never a problem...a quality firearm matters. Combine it with good JHP ammo and it's an excellent cartridge for stopping power (assuming that you can achieve proper shot placement). Plus, the firearm is more concealable - - less bulky or heavy - - than a comparable 9mm or .45 firearm.
Well, THE best ammo hands down for the 42 is the Underwood XD +P. I am 100% confident with that combo. AND the sticky holster makes a perfect pocket holster with the option for inside the waistband use. I also use the Underwood XD +P in my 19. This is Nov. 2018, NO issues at all with the 42, it just sends ammo down range. GREAT pistol. You're Welcome!
No one was screaming .380 was weak in the 90's when it was a thing..that shit will rock someone like any other caliber..no one wants holes in them from any caliber,it can still be lethal...380 runs great with fmj compared to hollow points...you upgrades you gun to your liking man yo just complain a lot about simple stuff the gun is fine out the box,it's made for up close encounters your typical self defense distances.
I keep hearing the 42 is to big for pocket carry. I have a Colt Mustang Pocket lite and the Glock 42 is about a half inch longer, no wider, shorter, I guess my pocket is a little deeper than most? I carry mine, In my pocket, every day.
I also want to say that while I agree with most of your statements, my experience regarding 9mms vs. 380s and reliability doesn't match yours. I don't see any reason for a 9mm to be more inherently reliable than a 380 due to the extra power of the 9mm. A given slide will take X amount of force to cycle properly. As long as that force is there, and as long as you aren't limp-wristing, the gun should cycle properly.
Sorry guys, but I like my G42. I use it as a BUG and I use it as my Primary Carry Grocery Store and Go to Church Gun. Yes, my G42 has upgraded Sights, FoxX Grips, 8-round Magazines and a Agency Arms Trigger that gives me a near perfect (for me) 4.5 pound pull so it's not a standard G42. It is my G42 and I like it.
When someone so knowledgeable summarizing 380s for gma’s its hard not to question everything they know. The 380 is 100% lethal. “Less reliable” how? Technically. The percentile is so small vs a 9mm that its negligible
In the .380 cal, everytime the glock 42 is tested with defense ammo the G9 Defense reverse hollowpoint is never tested and its a great round, it is also never tested in 9mm comparisons.
Love my Glock 42, it fits great into my work life and my everyday carry life. It goes in my ankle rig and my Glock 19 gen 5 stays on my hip. But i would trust my 42 with confidence.
With all of the options out there today, I chose Glock for my EDC. I shoot 9mm because I’ve yet to shoot a .380 that does not have malfunctions. For me priority one is reliability.
I've had a G42 for 2 or 3 years, I love to carry it "it's extremely comfortable "but I still find myself carrying my G33 because it holds more rounds, easy to conceal, and has more than enough power
Thousands of rounds through my Glock42 ....NO Problems! Don’t underestimate the .380 rounds - plus it’s extremely easy to put lots rounds in a tiny group FAST! Best .380 pistol on the market!
I've had mine 5+ years; I'm extremely pleased with it. It's the Toyota Corolla of guns.. works every time you use it! I've added a Hogue grip and Pierce extension. I carry with either an ankle or shoulder holster. Using ball ammo produces 12" penetration in gel.
I have a Glock 42 because I carry it when I need small, lightweight pistol, when I wear shorts, I like the 42. I am very careful about cartridge selection as with 9mm. I have had few FTF issues with my pistol.
my 42 is my dedicated backup/ankle gun. I wanted the smallest/lightest pistol that is reliable and that I can confidently fight with. I carried the g26 uncomfortably on my ankle for years and then downgraded the the Taurus tcp. I would forget I was carrying the tcp, but I was never very accurate with it and the only defensive ammo that was reliable in it was the corbon powrball. I tried the shield, but it's as heavy as the 26 and prints because of the longer handle. Now I have the 43, but the 42 is still more comfortable after a 12 hour shift.
I, for the most part, respect your opinion every time except this time. I would love for you to redo this review now that you have some more years under your belt. This gun reliably fills the notch it was designed for. Not an edc. Something light for a run down the street. I have never had a single problem with mine. Only complaint I have is how small/tight the slide release. I do carry a 43x daily.
Well that was an edit cut. But I did see the "wife" clear her gun from a stoppage with her finger on the trigger during clearing that made me cringe around 7:15.
I had issues with my G42 so I sent it back and Glock upgraded it and sent me two new mags. Apparently it was a first model which had issues. Now it runs like a top.
I bought a Glock 42 brand new and I could not get it to do one complete cycle with three different mags and changing the ammo. I sent it back to Glock and they changed the magazines and said nothing was wrong with it. I got it back. It cycled two rounds before it would not eject and did a couple stove pipes. First I am completely disappointed with the spring ,it is too tight. I’m going to store it as one person said with the slide locked open for a while and see if that helps with the spring . Otherwise ,I am going to sell it. Of course Glock comes out with the excuse of limp wrist. It’s funny none of my other handguns have that problem.
Good review. I spent $$ on it right away. I have XL hands. Hogue rubber sleeve, +2 SI mag extensions. Lone Wolf UAT trigger, Ghost edge connector. About 2.5 hours gun smithing as per Johnny Glock. AMAZING now!
My Ex usta complain about Penetration... but it wasn't my .380 she was talking about. but seriously i do love .380 and thinking about the 28. i'm also a Glock Guy.
Good morning Honest Outlaw....I have a repetitive malfunction with my G42 I wanted to ask you about....when the slide is locked back and I insert a fresh magazine loaded with hollowpoints, specifically Federal 90 gr. Hydra-Shoks, I pull the slide back to release it and chamber a new round. I don't use the slide release as I'm left handed. Approximately 50% of the time, I can't get the round to chamber as the lower edge of the bullet jams against the feed ramp and fails to lift up allowing the round to chamber correctly. I called Glock about this and if you've ever dealt directly with them, they don't offer too much advice on the phone. I asked about polishing the feed ramp and the rep. I spoke to of course couldn't recommend that. Needless to say, this malfunction "burns my ass". I have a Gen. 2 Glock 19 purchased in 1992 that has about 5000 rounds thru it with less than 10 malfunctions during that time period. This G42 in contrast is hard to believe that it was made by the same company. I have also had some malfunctions thru limp-wristing which I understand is just an inherent issue with the .380 cartridge. The failure to feed issue I'm having however is clearly a failure in my opinion to properly design and structure the feed ramp so as to provide reliable feeding. What are you thoughts on this issue I'm having and have you ever experienced this? Many thanks.
I have the same problem with my g42 with any cone shaped ammo like critical duty, it just won’t eat it but any range ammo or rounded nose style self defense ammo like Winchester silver tips I’ve had no issues. Seems to be a pocket 380 problem because my lcp was the same way 🤷♂️
G42 works for me, fits in the pocket + fits in the hand. Smaller 380s are too small for my hands, 9mms too big for my pocket. Call that niche if you like.
Watching closely in your video you reliability issues appear to be an ammo issue. you can clearly see the slide not cycle back far enough to eject the casing
Was my very first pistol and a gift from my dad. I put at least 300 rounds through it and it only failed to eject once because I limp wristed it. The only thing i didnt like was how it felt in my hand. Otherwise, i loved that little gun. Upgraded to a 19 last summer but keep the 42 around just in case.
Did you shoot him as he braced to hit the ditch?
Glock 42.. is outstanding..
@@scottfree6479 thanks for the help sir appreciate it
@@scottfree6479 Than why do you show so much dislike for it in your video?
All true! I really prefer the Strike Industries +2. PERFECT for my huge XL hand.
If six shots and an extra mag ain't enough it won't matter how many rounds you have. Hitting what you aim for is what matters even with a 22.
I carry the 42 with underwood xtreme defenders +p - very comfortable physically and mentally 👌
I like those a lot as well. I have a stock of them and Hornaday Critical defense
@@cody_rightnow6137 Nice +p. So you can hit the bad guy and the innocent person behind them 10/10
You know they make self defensive hollowpoint rounds that are designed not to kill other people other than your intended target right
You’re dead ass an idiot and a threat to the general public
Too big for pocket carry and mainly for grandma's and new shooters? I'd disagree with both of those opinions.
@Rongle Bringer You made several good points.
I actually lent mine to my grandma to keep on her night stand.
Yeah wtf. It's literally the perfect size to carry in cargo pants lmao.
Thanks
Lol .380
This video needs a redo. The G42 problems have been worked out and it is a great gun.
Nuttin wrong with my G42. Absolutely no malfunction in over 1,000 rnds.
Which ammo?
Limp wrist is the only reason this gun fails. Be a man and hold on, it will function everytime. 1,500 rounds down mine with 0 failures.
You are on crack, I have over 2000 rounds thru mine and zero problems
This video is best summed up by his use of the phrase "tactical community".
limp wrist a 380? :) damn hahahaha
You’re lying. You may not have had a failure from limp wrists but you’ve had failures or you don’t shoot.
I can't wait for the Glock74 chambered in .308
Maybe by then Glock will have a companion AR in .308 to go along with it!

@Steve Harris funny how that works huh lol
I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around that 🤣
357 magnum maybe.
Yes!

9mm...
Let me remain you something:
380 is 9mm Browning: 9×17
9mm Marakov: 9×18
9mm Luger: 9×19
38sp also 9mm
357mag also 9mm
Yes some are more powerful than others and have a better stopping power and penetretion, but do not underestimate the one who holds the gun because 22lr can be more deadly in one shot.
There are many 9mm, just choose the one you feel fine with.
I love my glock 42
I found out my Glock 42 works flawlessly with the right ammo. 90 grain and above. Ideal for my Glock 42 has been 95 grain and above. Works well with all types of brands.
I pocket carry a 42 a good bit. Never an issue. I usually forget its there...
That’s right, everything (gun choice) is a compromise. The 42 is a great gun. It has a valid value. The pluses far outweigh the negatives. And THE only “neg” is that .380 is a bit less powerful than a 9mm. But a 9mm is less powerful than an RPG.
it's also less reliable. You can't tell me that the 42 is as reliable as any of Glock's 9mm offerings
@@ChrisPBacon741 the Glock 42 is as reliable as any 9mm offering. I just said it.
I like my G42, but if I put 500 straight rounds through it, I would be really happy. The G17 I expect no issues. @@ChrisPBacon741
Do you know which ones?

I watched a guy shoot a hog, it penetrated thu the shoulder and lodged in the spine. That's not good enough???
"The trigger safety is designed to prevent the pistol from firing if it’s dropped or if the trigger is subjected to any pressure that isn’t a direct firing pull."
-Glock, Safe Action System
Just watched a 42 vs. 43 video in which both used the same brand of ammo , different grain weights of course. Results were identical , the only thing that sucks is the higher cost of 380 ammo.
I just ordered 1000 rd case of 90 gr fmj for $236.xx, brass cased. It's come down some.
I think Iraqveteran8888 made a comparison video like that with similar results, if I'm not mistaken
You'd think with less material it'd be cheaper but nah son.

Lighter than a smith and wesson airweight, low recoil, reliable, can load 6+1 and carry two 8 round spare mags in a belly band holster. What’s not to like?
greatest summertime carry pistol ever. Fits perfect in front pockets of cargo shorts. love mine!
Should I ever need to use it, I'm 150% confident it will keep its end of the bargain.
my grandma had a Glock 43 for 2 years and I got her a Glock 42 and she loves it she's a 130 lb 62 yr old
I have carried a Glock 42 for a while now as my every day.
Love my 42! Hundreds of rounds and zero failures. Yes, I put sights, a connector and Talon grip on it. Very accurate little pistol.
Why is it when guys carry sub-par cartridges they always start with, "we'll stand in front of it." Or "we'll shoot yourself with it."
I don't want hair spray sprayed in my face and I can still confidently say that a hair spray is a lousy self defense weapon.

@@riot8130 I don't know which Wal-Mart you shop at, but where I live in Kendall FL 9mm has always been much cheaper than any other centerfire handgun cartridge by a substantial amount. Having said that, I do agree that the .380 is an effective round when using the best loads out there.

I have put a couple thousand rounds through mine and never had any of those issues.
What ammo are you using?
I am in the "I love my Glock 42" camp. I have also had a totally different experience regarding reliability with my 42. Both my friend and I bought our 42s at the same time. This was roughly 3 months ago. We have been shooting nearly every week of that time. We have shot about 12 different kinds of ammo. I don't know the exact amount of ammo we have put through our G42s but it would be conservative to say 1500 rounds each. There has only been a single malfunction from either pistol. I had one stovepipe, and that was when I tried out the +2 mag extension from Strike Industries.
Chumgeyser what kinda ammo are you using? got one myself about 3 months ago. are you using a higher or lower grain?
I believe the new G42s are as reliable as any Glock... and I have read that the G42 has the shortest reset of any Glock.
out of the box it does have a better trigger and feel, It its the only 380 I carry and can shoot well with
I will say this about the 380: I made the Ruger LCP2 mistake. Reliability trumps all
Love my 42! All you need is night sights and ext add on for mag and you're ready to go!
Congratulations on the 1,000,000 subscribers !
That was such a nice background with snow . Wow . I wish I had that background
The 380 round is very underrated. Plenty police forces in Europe carry 380s.. It has stopping power depends on the ammo, same as the 22 mag.
Ew Europe
"European police forces" Hahahahaha!!!
Get one!

On my dead mother soul I see you comment absolutely everywhere
I'm guessing youve never seen someone shot by a 380 before.
I carry my G42 with 8 rounds and it is perfect. I think that 2 380s in the right place has the right stopping power.
You can’t pocket carry a Glock 42? lol That’s ridiculous. 🤣😝
My G42 rocks and it easily pocket carries with a Streamlight TLR-6HL in a kydex Vedder pocket holster.
Thank you. I own a Beretta 84 Cheetah. Very satisfied.

I like mine too. Shoots like a dream.
I'm down to 4500 rounds with mine and no malfunctions. One of the best guns I own.
When someone so knowledgeable summarizing 380s for gma’s its hard not to question everything they know. The 380 is 100% lethal. “Less reliable” how? Technically. The percentile is so small vs a 9mm that its negligible
So if the .380 being smaller makes it less reliable, then wouldn't the 9mm be less reliable than the 10mm or .45 ACP?
In the .380 cal, everytime the glock 42 is tested with defense ammo the G9 Defense reverse hollowpoint is never tested and its a great round, it is also never tested in 9mm comparisons.
i love my 42. i can carry it with sweatpants. the kahr was too top heavy and also weird long trigger pull
totally agree, my g42 is a basketball shorts gun, and I hate the trigger on the kahr
+Honest Outlaw Reviews might as well get the 43
It's not that much bigger
Love my Glock 42, it fits great into my work life and my everyday carry life. It goes in my ankle rig and my Glock 19 gen 5 stays on my hip. But i would trust my 42 with confidence.
With all of the options out there today, I chose Glock for my EDC. I shoot 9mm because I’ve yet to shoot a .380 that does not have malfunctions. For me priority one is reliability.
I like the review and I agree
Bought one for my mom and she loved it
I've had a G42 for 2 or 3 years, I love to carry it "it's extremely comfortable "but I still find myself carrying my G33 because it holds more rounds, easy to conceal, and has more than enough power
I’m a new shooter and i am already an excellent shot at 7-10 yards. I like it
Thousands of rounds through my Glock42 ....NO Problems!
Thanks for the video. Just what I was researching about this gun.
Nothing wrong with a 42 especially a Glock. Perfect pocket pistol
Effectiveness is not only caliber but also the ammunition used.
www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-defense-ammo-ballistic-tests/#380ACP
agreed!
Effectiveness is marksmanship.
Issa 380 it's not supposed to be tactical. It was made for the most concealable carry possible
My wife is a recycle nazi too. Heaven forbid I accidentally put something in the wrong bin. Haha!
G42 is just enough gun. If I want something more, then I'd take a g26 or g43x. The g42 is light, half the recoil of a G26 & accurate
Am i the only one that saw the sig move on the table at 16:18
Well that was an edit cut. But I did see the "wife" clear her gun from a stoppage with her finger on the trigger during clearing that made me cringe around 7:15.
Hey maybe that is the kind of gun that the libs talk about.
edit bra
Its haunted from all the sig haters
😂
your macho intro told me everything i needed to know about you lol
Very true and agree
This one’s a bit cringe “My Opinion!” But HO has come a very long way since
I had issues with my G42 so I sent it back and Glock upgraded it and sent me two new mags. Apparently it was a first model which had issues. Now it runs like a top.
Carry the 42 ankle carry with a ruger 380 LCP in a front pocket holster. Ankle carry is for backup and while driving it switches to primary.
Someone let him know that the trigger "safety" is a drop safety only.
The 42 kicks less than the 43 and still gives you defensive penetration
And it's a quarter pound lighter than the G-43 which was the deal-maker for me - LOVE MY 42!
Nothing wrong with .380. Do your research or speak to law enforcement.
The Glock 42 is my super carry. I always have it on me. Always. Even asleep in a smart carry.
Watched this in 2024, I have to give you credit for upping your game and improving your videos. Love the channel.
My Ex usta complain about Penetration... but it wasn't my .380 she was talking about. but seriously i do love .380 and thinking about the 28. i'm also a Glock Guy.
Have you compared it to the Colt government pocketlite ?
I have the same problem with my g42 with any cone shaped ammo like critical duty, it just won’t eat it but any range ammo or
rounded nose style self defense ammo like Winchester silver tips I’ve had no issues. Seems to be a pocket 380 problem because my lcp was the same way 🤷♂️
G42 works for me, fits in the pocket + fits in the hand. Smaller 380s are too small for my hands, 9mms too big for my pocket. Call that niche if you like.
12 round magazines now for glock 42.
Can carry 1 or 2 hidden, 12 round magazines elsewhere with you and the normal, 6 round magazine in the gun...
