It is the 6l90 from the 2500 and 3500 gasser trucks, they’re pretty stout units I’ve seen some with a lot of hard miles come in with pump failure from the converter coming apart but they have tons of miles. The best was an express 3500 box truck with the 6.0 gas and 6l90 combo, 564,000 miles original engine and transmission all highway miles, it needed a transmission rebuild.
Your right they didn't need to change anything major over the years they came up with a great design. That 6.6 seems pretty quick and beastly.

The 6.6 is super powerful. These newer heavy duty gas engines from ford and Chevy are powerhouses.

I do believe it is the 6L90.. the 90 is the heavy duty version of the 80, which is found in lighter things like the 5th gen Camaro.

Gas. It's GM's new 6.6L gas engine. The only diesel option for the Express/Savana now is a 2.8 duramax
