it's definitely not causing adhd but it's causing executive dysfunction, which anyone can suffer with. and it's also causing those with adhd to have more severe executive dysfunction symptoms so they can't mask the disorder anymore and are getting diagnosed at record rates, tho this is a good thing. early intervention is ALWAYS good for adhd, better to find out in teens or early 20s because of a social media addiction rather than find out because of a nervous breakdown and drug addiction /homelessness when you're 30 and up.

"And lazy is one of those words that sets off a little alarm bell in my brain because much of what we call lazy is just things that make life easier, or things that people do that aren't conventionally productive I'm not going to use the word unproductive here because doing nothing or playing a video game or doing a puzzle or reading a book can be very productive for mental and physical and socioemotional health, it's just not productive in the way we categorize productivity to be under capitalism because you're not, like, creating product."
I know you've said that sentiment before but it just really hits differently every time i hear it

i think that the service fish would wear their harnesses kinda like the same way dogs do but like the harness goes around their fins ? yeah that's my theory

Yeah! I’d imagine they’d be similar only constructed out of some hagfish slime- fiber combination since you wouldn’t want to damage the mucous membrane of the goldfish with the long term friction (please escuse the absolute nerdiness of this comment)

I couldn’t focus long before the internet! Although I don’t think the internet has made it worse.

I relax to my Stalingrad related video playlist, and mostly the actual Stalingrad battle ones, it's ironic.

I dunno, my brain just doesn’t seem to work this way. And no, my attention span in general hasn’t declined as I age. I’m 37, and the hyperfocus is still strong for basically everything.
The one area where it has changed is that autistic burnout from masking and letting myself be pushed into a sculpture degree my first time in college affected my ability to read; I used to be hyperlexic, but with burnout couldn’t finish a book, kept just falling asleep any time I tried. It’s gotten better since I recovered 4 years ago, I can read and finish a book now, but (so far) it has not fully returned to the same speed and absorption as it was before.
But my burnout was unrelated to social media. Social media has benefited me greatly, I’ve learned so much about myself and others and the world, and the worst part for me is how repeatedly platforms get bought out and become terrible, scattering communities and leaving me grieving another loss. But the apps themselves, while they’re still decent, don’t cause any problems for me/my brain/focus/anxiety/exhaustion, anything like that. If anything they often energize and inspire me. I usually relate more to your content/autistic content generally, but I guess this is just an area where I’m in a minority. 🤷🏻

Thanks for your comment. I used to be hyperlexic too, but books are such a chore now. It's good to know that I can improve sonce I thought it might have to do with my age.

A bit out of topic here, but is it just me or the speed of your speech has slowed down lately? Like in your older videos, I had to slow them down so I catch everything you're saying. But now I actually didn't have to. For some reason, it makes me happy for you.

OKAY WEIRD - I literally had this thought this morning while editing some videos for August. I recently started vocal PT for jaw tension to help my migraines and ?I think it's making my speech slow down? Or maybe just because I'm better using my time so I feel like I'm working less so my brain is moving a little bit slower. Honestly could be both, I have No Clue. But very interesting that someone else noticed this too, I will be logging that in my brain lol
