Hi Everyone! Guy here... I'm going to reply to as many questions / comments as possible for the next couple of hours - so feel free to get them in below!
How do you feel about the average cost of a round of golf at an average/above average course. Do you think rates are fair (even regardless of the current cost of living). Golf courses that charge say £35/40 in the week (yorskhire area), from experience are very quiet in the week, why dont they open them up so more can play at a fair cost
Please please please, do a golfbidder challenge where you only get £250 (no full set packages allowed). Seriously challenge your club selection and golf game.
always play golf with your dad while you get the chance, I miss him everyday and wish I could play golf with him one more time, I still use his clubs every weekend
Break 75 till the end of the year is amazing news. You got me back into golf after a 12 year break. Just want to say thank you as I'm back in love with the game 👍👍
I love these interviews. Will was a fantastic guest and had some great insights and stories. Anytime you can get more individuals with behind the scenes info, please do. It's such a great way to get to know the inter-workings of professional golfers. Thanks!
@20:20...Rick, having you on the bag made me understand the value of a re-assuring voice.....Guy's expression(I've been encouraging all the time, doesn't that count?!?!?!?!) HA!
I havnt played golf in 20 years, 32 years old now, and having my first lesson next week! thanks to you all on the show and all the videos you do. it has changed my life
My suggestion for the partner: have her tee up from a point on the golf course where she has a chance to hit the green in regulation. For a par 4, she might tee up 50 yards behind the 150 yard marker. With a 125 yard drive and a 75 yard approach shot, she can get on the green and have a good pace of play. For par 5s, maybe she starts 250 yards back. On the par 3s, she can take those at 100 yards. Basically, she can "tee it forward" at just the right distance for her.
Quite right. This is how everyone should play. If you can't reach a Par 4 in two shots (distance wise), then definitely move forward a tee box. It will be a much more fun experience.
my solution for playing with friends/family that aren't very good....the par 3 course. great place to hone your skill as a newbie while not pissing off anybody playing the "big" course.
LOVE IT when this drops on TH-cam at a nice early time. Makes the day :D Couple off wee questions guy seeing as yer here. 1. How long would you say it's reasonable for a new golfer to get to the point where they are breaking 100 consistently? I've been playing nearly a year now, a good amount, and having lessons... but feel I'm going backwards more than forwards. Makes me want to give up but the content you lads put out keep me going "Golf is hard"! 2. How do you guys feel/think about doing some behind the scenes content? What goes into making your videos? A VLOG of you guys making a video. Are there people playing behind you? What's a day in the office like etc? Just think a wee mini series on that from your perspective or something would be cool AF. More relatable to us at home too! Cheers mate!
1.) how long is a piece of string! Sadly, it's very hard to say! So many factors and sadly it's hard to say. However, I would look at just trying to avoid the really bad holes. Play sensible golf and try to avoid danger, if you end up in trouble just to play sensible shots. 2.) Possibly, but the big focus is the main channel so we want to spend as much time as possible to make those videos the best!
I played for 9 years before starting to break 100 consistently. It got better once I: 1) started playing/practicing more than once/twice per week 2) accepted I needed to practice chipping and putting more; regarding chipping specifically, I reeeally benefited from knowing exactly which clubs and how to hit from 40,60,80 yards
Great podcast. One of the best things you do on your podcasts is show different sides of golf - photographer, news reporter, caddy, etc. Great insight into what's normally never seen. Please do more tips and drills. And when you do more club reviews please consider 2 things. One, most club reviewers are pros like yourself - meaning they/you play at an elite level better than 90% of other golfers. They/you evaluate a club for their own skill level and game. If I played at your level I'd do my own evaluation and wouldn't need your reviews. I'll never play at your level and you'll never see a blade in my bag. So for #1 is: relate club reviews to the 90% of average golfers. Two, the bottom line reason for watching a club review is to be informed before I go to the store and demo clubs - in other words to influence my buying decision. I can't recall anyone ending a review by saying "These clubs are mediocre. Buy something else." All clubs seem to be "good" or "very good." That makes it hard for me to understand the differences. From the consumer perspective what I really want is to separate the "should demo" from the "waste of time" clubs. Also, l'd love to see you review direct-to-consumer clubs (New Level, Takomo, Sub 70, etc) because demoing their clubs is hard or impossible.
Definitely agree with you guys play golf with your loved ones. I am 40 years old and I still playing every weekend with my father who is 81 years old and suffered a major stroke in Golf as motivation to get him better. Definitely church those moments people
I loved hearing these stories, especially from the LPGA point of view. Shows how the intensity of LPGA is just as much as the mens tours. Would love to hear more from will
A big part of learning golf is learning how to play in a group. And bad golf doesn't need to be slow golf. I play with a lot of people who can't break 90 and they still play quickly, never holding up the group. I grew up playing with my father, so I was taught a lot of things that promote pace of play. Play ready golf. If you're playing honors, be ready when it's your turn (know your distance, your target and have your club in your hand) Watch your playing partners shots in case you have to look for a ball. Keep an extra ball in your pocket. Leave your clubs on the edge of the green near the next tee box. Collect your playing partners clubs if you've putted out. Walk with purpose.
Hello rick! in few words Rick.. Golf has changed my life last 5 years from playing going solo making increíble connections to now a first year caddie at some very nice clubs I love my job and would talk about how caddie changed my life ! Hahav
It was always Awesome to play golf with my Dad. And I always wanted to play with my kids. However Golf can be hard to learn. I was so HAPPPY when I have been able to go on the course now with my Kids where they can play FlingGolf and they Love it!!! This should be something families should check out. It is great being on the Courses and especially so with friends and Family.
Would love to see a break 75 with Rick + a tour caddie (caddie walks the course before hand and gets yardages etc) and compare the score to a previous round if its played on a previous break 75 course
The only place that you didn't mention the missing lob wedge turning up was on eBay. It's the first thing I thought. I'd love to have a few pints with Will and a group of caddies. I'd imagine some of the stories are priceless.
New subscriber and new to the world of golf; I’ve been listening to the catalog over the past few days, have to say I’m really not a fan of the click for the subscribe graphic. You’re the experts and I definitely appreciate the (FREE!) content but just wanted to provide some feedback since it stood out to me. Thanks for all you all do!
Hi Rick and Guy, another great podcast, it was a great insight to the other side of the game. If you was a caddy, who would you like to caddy for and at what event?
I understand wanting to spend time with your dad but having a girlfriend or boyfriend that wants to play more golf with you is an incredible opportunity. To say they are not on our level is selfish. I play golf with a ten year old and I don’t try to shoot my personal best I try to help my 10 year old enjoy his round and in the mean time I tweak my game while moving at the child’s pace. The girl friend problem could be solved with a similar attitude. I liked Rick’s comments about the different formats but one way or another quit trying to play for yourself and play for the enjoyment of others.
rick/guy, thanks for the awesome content! ive recently gotten back into golf after a few years without playing, thanks to you guys. With the recent collab with good good, i'd love to see some more collabs, especially with bobdoessports! maybe guy and rick can tour the US and get with more american golf youtubers!
I shot a 21 on a par 5 today. It was great. 3 on and 18 putts. Yup 18. Ball would go up by the hole and miss and come all the way back down about 25 yards. continue until you sink it. 2 in my group gave up.
100% agree that playing more team games and formats would improve the situation for everyone. A tour scramble or texas scramble is a great idea. I agree it's probably more due to the pace of play and the frustration that sets in. Scramble is so great that you rarely have to hit it out of trouble. The most frustrating thing for new players is hitting shots beyond their ability, out of trees, bunkers, thick rough, difficult lies, etc. The scramble format typically eliminates this part of the game.
Loving the content recently especially the break 75. Keep up the excellent work. 1 question o have and without goin into too much detail i always hit better shots from range mats but when out on course even on flat lies i don't get ad much distance or as smooth a contact, why is that?
Regarding player caddie relationships, Danielle Kang's caddie Olly played against his girlfriend Emily Pedersen in the final Sunday singles match at the Solheim cup last year 😂😂
I just want to reiterate how great it is to have Guy as part of the show! Great fellowship between the duo and really adds to the show and both channels.
My dads had parkinsons for 20 years now. his not able to get through 9 holes of golf. I've been playing now for 25 years and dad got my into the game. If your able to go play a round of golf with your old man. I'd do it straight away. some things you don't realise how much it means before it's gone.
No matter the shape your pops is in, if he is in your life, Ask him to go to the course with you. Even if he can’t play, he’d love to ride the cart and watch his son play. You’ll never understand how much that few hours means to you until you can’t ever do it again. Take every chance you can get, I promise you’ll never regret it.
As a person who plays as a single mostly and scratch handicap. I literally never play with anyone better than me... And I don't complain! It's a game against the course. 😁
If she’s new to golf. He might try doing range days with her (chip/putt/range), play rounds with dad. This way he gets to spend time with her, she can improve her game, and he can play rounds with dad. I have just as much fun during a practice session with a friend. Playing closest to the pin, little putting games, etc.
Rick/guy, maybe the guy should put one or two days a week to one side to spend time on the golf course win win. P.s nice to see you both at Jcb golf club👍Eddie.
My wife started golfing this year and I suggested let’s play scramble it basically was taken as insult to her game and she has since just quit golf sadly.

Brilliant, could listen to him all day long particularly as I'm a full time caddie myself, though not on tour.

Great insight into the life of a tour caddy , brilliant pod cast , well done all .
Love your understanding for the position of the ‘new golfer’ Rick.
Will, War Eagle buddy! Love the shirt!
As always, great episode Rick…love the show and all the content.

The guy who doesn't want to play with his wife, because she's not to his standard, better hope she doesn't use that same logic in the bedroom.
What’s if he’s better in bed you spud.
That is funny as hell, and I hope she doesn’t. 😂
