for those of you struggling to remember sohcahtoa this is how my maths teacher told me to remember it. S - sex O - on H - hard C - concrete A - always H - hurts T - try O - other A - areas
What's confusing is that in the question where you use the cosine rule or tan there are right angles and acute angles but doesn't that mean opposite and hypotenuse which means the sin rule should be used?
Thanks a lot bro I was struggling with the trigonometry but this video helped me a lot and also my exam is in 2 days so good luck to everyone who also has an exam:)
I found this video really helpful but I'm confused as to why there are two different ways to get the hypotenuse. Why must we swap the numbers around but then in another calculation we have to times it?
I think I have an easier way to remember which way to solve the equations of which my teacher taught me. On the triangle whether its soh, cah or toa. Lets use soh. If you're trying to find O, you can simply put your finger over it and block it out, then you're left with S and H, and if you're going across you Times it. And if you're trying to find H on SOH, you simply block that out, and you're left with S and O above, if its like this where one is above and one is below, you divide it. Its kinda hard to explain it in text but I hope this helps.
this masterpiece was posted 8 years ago and still is helping countless students all around the world. THANK YOU!

Hi. Great question. Thanks MrHitman for chipping in.
You have sin41 = 12/X
Multiply both sides by X to get
Xsin41=12
divide both sides by sin41 to make X the subject
X=12/sin41
Net effect they swapped - quick spot but prob better to have all steps.

Thanks for this, I'm already doing higher but I needed to revise it because finding the length of a side using SohCahToa was my weak point, this really helped so thanks, good luck to everyone else doing GCSE maths tomorrow!
You sereously have helped me TOO much. this has been on for like 2 lessons, and I feel like I'm 95% sure of it now

Trigonometry is really hard but this video has really helped me, better than any lesson on it at school. Thanks :)
opposite is the side opposite to the angle you are trying to find and adjacent is the side next to the angle you are trying to find then the last one , hypotenuse , is the one opposite the right angle of the triangle - look at about 8:25
I take my hat off to you sir.
You have made me so confident with pythagoras and trigonometry.
Thank you

Delighted to have helped Aullonia! Check out the website for loads more. BEst wishes. Mr H
Yo this is lit. I literally learnt this in 10 minutes.
Thanks so much mate best maths video ive ever seen this will help me so much my exam to get into my school for life is tomorrow thanks again
Thank you, Mr Hegarty, I had real problems with this topic, but your vieo really helped me out!
This is really helping me in 2023🥰🤗 be blessed 🙏
I think I have an easier way to remember which way to solve the equations of which my teacher taught me. On the triangle whether its soh, cah or toa. Lets use soh. If you're trying to find O, you can simply put your finger over it and block it out, then you're left with S and H, and if you're going across you Times it. And if you're trying to find H on SOH, you simply block that out, and you're left with S and O above, if its like this where one is above and one is below, you divide it. Its kinda hard to explain it in text but I hope this helps.
Every video I watch teaches me a little more. I never knew that you SUBTRACT when trying to find the shorter side!
