I laughed out loud when you said you had to wash your back. I do the same thing, otherwise I break out! Blows my mind how that is never brought up in curly hair routine videos.
Same. I apply products in the shower, wrap my hair, then rinse off my skin and follow up with toner on my chest, back and neck when I get out of the shower.
I've been standing in the shower like "Am I crazy or does it seem... suboptimal to have conditioner and gel all over my back?" feels so good to get some validation
Yessss pls ive ordered the devacurl coconut styling blabla its coming today... im still gonna use it bc mell said once her hairs not dying from it lool and i trust her
@@kaih4967 And WHEN was that? Cause others who have suffered said, the NEW products destroyed their hair. Soooo..... I would think twice about using it even if Mell have once said she used it...
I’m newish with styling my natural curls but I find that wet styling works much better bc I get better clumps which I like. My hair is a weird 2b-c-3a mix and if I mess around with it too much after conditioning it, it gets stringy and more straight ☹️ haven’t really mastered volume yet though!
I prefer damp styling because my curls have more volume and length. Even though wet styling gives me rlly nice definition...I definitely prefer volume and length over that!:))
I use to do soaking wet but it weighed my fine curls down a lot! After seeing all of these videos I've had tons of success with damp hair and using all of Mell's methods especially now in the winter. My curls have been completely defined from roots to ends and get many compliments on how they look. Very soft, bouncy and makes it look fuller. I have alopecia on the top of my head but since using all of these techniques you can't even tell it's thinning! Very full! Thank you!!
@Simone Bralts she details it better in her wash day and applying products video (they are separate). Essentially it means cleaning your hair from build-up properly, and sectioning your hair to thoroughly apply product. It sounds easy, but when you have dense hair, it takes a long time.
With my fine, thick, 3b/3c curls I definitely don't wake up with the bouncing curls I went to sleep with. Sleep with a silk cap or pillow & in the morning just spray it generously with water. Just enough where your hair is slowly dripping water then scrunch and let it air dry. No need for products because the water will reactivate what's already in your hair. Unless its like day 3 or 4 then I usually have to scruch a very light amount of leave in conditioner and a little gel. You can also add a light fragrance to the water or use a spritz of rosewater after. Or if you hair is very dry you can add a small amount of leave in conditioner to the water. Everyone curls are different in some way, but that process is damage free and good for every curl and hair type. Good example is if I brushed or ran my fingers through my hair (wet or dry) like her, I would look like a straight up poodle, but it works great for her.
I wet style, because I'm a wavy, and plop when I get out with a microfiber wrap. Then I air dry while I drink my coffee, then do makeup. I dry my hair last. #teamlazy
There is absolutely nothing better than sinking into my big fluffy bed on a cold winter's night and seeing that I've got a new Manes by Mel upload! Six months into my journey and I learn new things...and spend more money...with each vid. Love you girl and I am so happy that you are so in your happy place now!
3C/4A here. I almost always wet style since my hair dries so fast right out of the shower and I lose all the moisture. The spray bottle helps of course, but my coarser hairs still do best with hitting it with products right away. To avoid wasting my "good products" I use a good but budget leave-in conditioner on soaking wet hair, plop with a cotton shirt for about 5 minutes, then apply "the good products" while it's between wet and damp, finger coil the stubborn hairs, and then diffuse. :)
What’s your porosity cause I have the same problem. I have to work real fast to get product in while it’s still very wet cause it dries super fast esp my bangs 😩
@@MA-rn2xp It's somewhere between low and medium or like grade 2 which I only just discovered from Mell's video about porosity! But I'm living in a very humid climate now, so I'm on a new mini journey of figuring out what my hair likes. 😅
Damn, Girl! I'm convinced you just have natural volume. 😞 I've done wet AND damp styling...nothing. Flat as a pancake. Correction: pancakes are fluffy. 🤦🏻♀️
You're not going crazy. My roots are naturally flat. She does have natural volume at her roots. I finally just cut my hair and put in layers so I could get max volume.(Didn't need to really cut the length to get volume i just like my hair short lol) I would try styling upside down it definitely helped me.
I prefer wet styling. I have thick low porosity 4a curls And I find that my washer and goals last longer when I do it on wet hair. It helps the moisture stay in my hair.
As a 2B wave, in order to get/maintain curl, my styling technique absolutely HAS to be wet/drenched & NO PLOPPING! But I ALWAYS struggle w/volume bcz my hair would RATHER frizz than hold a curl now that I’ve gone blonde. So I recently bought the Aveda styling products you use. We’ll see how they work.
I went blonde also and have fine thin curly 2c 3a type hair...I absolutely love A&G hair recoil and the mousse gel..defines..tames frizz for days and give volume.
I find that I like mixing up products - so would love to see you do a washday with your favorite single product from a line... Like a shampoo from one, conditioner from another, leave in from a third and so on - as long as it’s your favorite product ;) Just to see how the different lines work together :)
I started the cgm 4 years ago, and i was constantly frustrated with the results. 3 years ago I started highlighting my hair and I just stopped trying to style my hair at all, all I did was no sulfates no silicones, put in in a bun, don't think about it. I thought I was doommed but I recently came across your channel and you made me want to try again. Something about you just makes this seem much easier. So I followed all you tips and I could almost cry right now because my hair is curling so perfectly and you helped me do that! I missed my curls.... Thank you ❤️
Manes by Mell Hey Mell! For years, I put a straightener to my hair, and I regret it. I almost forgot that my hair is naturally curly, and so I decided a few months ago to get back to my roots. Your advice has helped me tremendously! I absolutely love your channel and videos. ❤️❤️❤️ My 3a curls are jumping with joy!
I do better with wringing my hair out of water and then applying product while in the shower. My hair is a mixture of 2c and 3a. Also I can do damp but it may get frizzy depending on the day.
Same exact issue with me. If I damp style I WILL get frizz. I feel like wavies are prone to frizz way more than curlies. Curlies can brush conditioner through their damp hair without any frizz which trips me out. I’d be looking like Hayden panettiere in Malcolm in the middle if I did that lol
Hey girl, hope you’re feeling better since taking a leave from work🙏💚. I’m a 2B wave and damp styling has ALWAYS been OUT of the question - FRIZZY CRUNCH CITY 😩. But I’m all ears. Educate me!!!
loved this awesome video YAAAS QUEEN🤩🥳 personally, wet styling is the best for my 2C-3A ringlets. I feel my hair gets more clumpy and I prefer that look, even though I live for the volume since it gets voluminous by day 2 and 3 and i loved it... if by that day my hair gets a little bit dry, I scrunch some leave-in conditionee diluted with water, then let it air-dry and my hair remains its natural beauty 🥺💕 we are truly blessed to have curls bc they are so beautiful😍😍😍
Oddly enough, my hair turns out better when I let it dry in a microfiber towel for 10-15 minutes before applying product. Whenever I apply product on dripping wet hair it tends to be flat on my head, lacking volume. I haven’t had much problem with losing definition either. Maybe it’s just different from person to person.
I am literally the exact same. If I do it wet I have no volume at all, super flat. I put mine in a towel while I do lotion, and foundation, as well as change. Then I do my hair. For me damp is the way to go!
I used to do the same before cgm . I think I'll go back to it, because I have a lot of hair, but it's fine and applying to wet hair totally flattens my roots.
@@heatherkasteler8363 so you just wash your hair I mean shampoo and conditioner ,then put it in a towel, finish rest of bathing and getting ready, after that do your hair..
I must be doing it wrong 😂 whenever I wet style, I lose almost all of my curl definition. I love the idea of wet styling but even putting a leave in changes my results in a bad way!
@RothysOOTD at least it's not just me! I definitely have really thick hair, always figured that wet styling diluted the products too much for them to work in my hair but 🤷♀️ I'm no expert lol
My ringlets form with damp hair. When I apply to wet hair, I get tiny separate waves. I think it has to do with an algorithm of things. I understand that I have poures thick medium strand hair. I guess that is why.
@@andromedalove my hair type and porosity are about the same! I've been thinking it just soaks up too much when I apply products wet, idk how it works though lol just what works best to get the ringlets!
I think u might not be using enough product or your cream is too light. When I style it wet, I use my denser cream and it doesn’t weight down. Kristyn Joanne videos are really good for this technique with wavy hair
Hi Mell-thanks for this video. I’m interested in learning more about sealing in moisture-such as what products and ingredients you recommend, and where this comes in during your routine. Could you do a video on it maybe? Thanks again for all of your expertise 😊
Thanks so much for educating us in this really refreshing "rule"-free manner! Very much appreciate that curly haired people must not be "banned" from all the wonderful things cosmetic science has to offer these days... for me the biggest downside to soaking wet is that it is very difficult fo me to "feel" the right amount of product that needs to be applied, I always end up with too much or too little... Also, could you do a video on enhancing curl pattern (as in making it the most curly it can be) for those among us that are not as blessed as you and your seester are?
I do a combo of sort of soaking wet & damp styling. I apply my leave ins in the shower with soaking wet hair, clip it up while I finish my shower. Then add my gel onto my now damp hair. My hair always comes out bomb
I have 2b 2c hair and did wet styling until I found your videos and tried damp styling. Damp styling works best for me it gives me a better balance in product I feel like.
I loved this experiment! My hair is a lot thicker so if I don't wet style it'll be super frizzy, also after conditioning I put it up in a clip (almost doubling as a deep conditioner moment) and finish my body so after styling (which I also do in the shower) I clip my hair up and do a quick rinse which has never had any negative effects!💗✨
I am SO GLAD I stumbled upon your channel!! We have similar hair textures and curl pattern. I have been trying the cgm for awhile and I feel like I have so much build up and my hair is so weighed down. I started watching TH-cam videos about it and have spent most of the day watching your videos and educating myself with your help. So glad I found you because you answered all of my questions! Thank you! (I also hope your mental heath is getting better and you’ve taken some time to clear your head) You’ve gained another follower and fan! Much love! Xoxo
For my low-med porosity hair, I’ve always found I get better results when I style in the shower..I style it and gently put it in a shower cap and then wash my body. When I get out, I scrunch out the excess water and product with my microfiber towel
I like to style soaking wet and use a microfiber towel to scrunch excess water. Mell could you please do a video on innersense products? They are one of the only hair care brands that has received a 100% clean rating on the Think Dirty app and my salon just made the switch from Deva to Innersense so I'd love to see how the products work on your hair. Thanks for all that you do for the curly community!
my hair texture is similar but i actually prefer wet styling because my curls are always more defined and clumpy which i prefer. BUT i still have a lot of volume because i diffuse so yea lol. for some reason every time i style damp i hate the results lol
Same. I think you're right about weight, along with density (for me, anyway). I need the smaller curl clumps to get any volume, otherwise I get 3-4 big sausage curls only, with flat roots.
I always enjoy your videos so much, thank you for all your great work! I have 3a/b hair and I'm so glad you did this video because I love to wet style my hair and I wasn't sure it was okay to do! I love to glop in all my products in the shower and then throw my hair up in a microfiber towel while I get dressed, etc. By the time I get around to my hair again the towel is usually sopping wet and my hair is half dry, then I just sort of shake it out, diffuse it and I get the nice clumpy curls I like. This seems to work best on my particularly lazy/depressed days, but I'm happy to know it's an actual legit option, I thought it was just me :) Thanks again!
As a 2a-2b wavy, wet styling (I learnt after the last video) actually works better for me as it tames frizz and makes my hair look balanced. My roots and ends have 2 definitions of volume, so this way I look less like a birds nest. Now all I need is a UK liquidy gel. 😁 Question: do you use supplements or products focusing and stating "hair growth?" If so, what and do they work? 🤔
Love your videos! I only do wet styling...soaking wet, styling, Plop, then I jump back in the shower, I’ve thought about damp styling. Thank you so much for this video😘
I have 2c-3a hair and my absolute fav is wet styling with the same bounce curl products right in the shower. I do scrunch out the excess water with a T-shirt after styling. Best results I’ve ever had! Con- I have to use a lot of product Pro- amazing definition for me
I’m wet styling atm but I am using products so it doesn’t dry out due to the cold weather. I am totally digging your comb and products. Thank you for your videos. Learning a lot. 😊
I am a 3b/3c and live in Alaska, the best results I get it’s definitely styling in the shower or at least as soaked as possible for that good definition plus since I am high density volume is never a problem regardless and oils are a must in order to retain my moisture as much as possible since the negative temperature out here are insanely bad for hair. At least is what works for me up here.
Hey Mel!! I have 3a/3b curls and my hair hates damp styling! It get so frizzy and doesn’t have much definition. Does not like to be plopped either. If a towel or microfiber towel touches my hair it sucks up all the moisture and there again...frizz. We all live and learn. Thanks for the videos!! ❤️
3b/3c hair - always soaking wet air drying style; weighs down hair, takes long to dry but once dry absolutely wonderful results. I think I will try 'damp styling'
This was super helpful and something I didn't even think about!!! The curls are better defined when my hair is wet instead of damp. Thank you as always Mell! It was great to see a review of a new product too!!
I damp style all the way! Whenever I try soaking wet styling my hair ends up like a super frizzy wavy straight hair! It reminds me of being super over moisturized. (My hair normally is def. 3a) I have course med.density. (not sure on porosity)
You are a life saver! I was literally telling my hubby that I feel more confident in choosing products because you taught me how to listen to my hair. Just the other day, I was wondering about wet styling and then some light towel drying whether before air drying or diffusing. And I thought, "what would Mell do?" (Let's make that a thing? #wwmd lol) I was thinking of a way to ask you and then this video came to bless me. Thank you, once again!! ❤️
I always do wet and it turns out great! I dont struggle with volume, i wash my hair at like 4 on a sunday and style it as soon as I wash out my deep conditioner, and my hairs dry in about 5 hours. Then i pineapple, sleep, and wake up with volume. (I have 3c/3b hair)
@Manes by Mell please make a video about your favorite gels! I would love a guide to different types of gels with various ingredients and which weather conditions to use them in. Thank you girl!!!!!!
I typically damp style . But I think wet styling the cream first will help with moisture , let it dry down a bit then add the gel might work . I love bounce curl
Dense, thick, wavy hair here. I like tht you point out how wet styling might be better if your hair is wavy bc that’s how it is for me. As much as I hate the dripping wetness of wet hair, the results I get for my hair is much better than when I damp style :(
Hi Mel- I'm a fan of damp styling because i dont want to blow dry my hair for so long. I clip the roots after I put my gel in that helps it dry with height. I do my make up, get dressed etc then diffuse as last step. Love from NYC xoxogena
Mel* are you willing to give advise to those of us suffering from DivaCurl damage. My scalp has been on fire for weeks, I have all over breakage at 3-4 inches from my scalp, my color is fried out,my hair will only hold a curl for a few hours. I have protein sensitive hair. I don't know what to do because Diva Curl won't tell us what screwed up our hairs 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Idk if you went to a dermatologist or not but i would definitely recommend that , personally i wasn't using devacurl, however, if I had been using it i would go to a dermatologist.
I am a 2b/2c and I love the look on day one of damp styling but then my hair is terrible the following days. When I wet style I am able to go several days and have my curls still look defined with minimal frizz.
2b/c hair- wet style, plop, add additional product to compensate for what was lost, diffuse. This technique helps eliminate frizz. I've also noticed that I get better curls.
Hey Mel! I work at a salon for 2A-4C curly hair and we WET style!! Long time to dry but worth it 😍 that moisture!!!!!! Is everything!!! I'd love to see videos on Day 2/3 of how you refresh your hair because my bonnet comes off and my hair looks crazy! Help. 😘😘
Soaking wet works best for my 3b-3c high density, high porosity curls. Otherwise, friz!! Learned a lot from you about being careful about glycerine in products in the winter. Thank you!! I love learning from you and your seester!
I love bounce curl so far as well. I’ve been using them for about a month and you don’t see a lot of people using them and I don’t get why I think it’s amazing and the smells are amazing! I would love to see more videos with you using them and your opinions and tips on how to keep it moisturized. I LOVE the results it gives me but I feel like it doesn’t last as many days as other products would. You’re amazing Mel! Thank you for sharing!
I'm a wavy with low porosity hair. I've tried both methods and prefer damp styling - it lets the product actually come into contact with my hair, otherwise I just drip or scrunch it out during plopping :')
Hey Mell! I find that wet styling gives me better curl clumps for sure. I have medium , high density wavy hair 2b-2c and I am 3 months into my transition. I have had my first Deva Cut but I do color my hair. I also plop to absorb some of the moisture. I usually do the curl cream in the shower and scrunch that in, then plop while I get dressed and then use gel with a bit of water mixed in it to scrunch in at that point I am very damp.
Unless the product specifically says apply to soaking wet hair, I prefer damp. I like the volume I get when I style my hair damp and also worry that having my hair wet too long makes me prone to hydral fatigue. Both sides of your hair look amazing but then again...you’re a pro 😉
I actually do both wet and damp styling on my coarse 3a-3c hair. On the healthier parts of my hair I do damp styling as wet styling tends to weigh them down. However on the crown and back of my head I have more damaged/dry hair. If that hair dries even slightly with no gel it frizzes immediately with a sporadic curl pattern, so I wet style and finger curl to maximize definition and reduce the frizz.
I'm still experimenting on which works better for me. I had decent results scrunching out some of the extra water from my hair before applying products and continuing on with styling and stuff.
It really depends on what you want and your hair type. I have very fine curls that are easily weighed down. If I wet style my curls clump together, the curls are bigger, looser, and flat but they last a lot longer. Damp styling weighs down my hair a lot less and because of that my curls maintain more of their natural tighter curl pattern, they dont clump together so I get much more volume. I prefer damp styling but its annoying because it lasts a lot less in between washes.
I apply products while damp, then spray my hair with water before I define with my denman. It's a new step in my routine, but seems to be making a HUGE difference!
Great video, it was super interesting to see both results side by side! It confirms what my gut feeling was telling me: that damp styling gives fluffier and less defined results. I personally usually wet style, and I have hair similar to Amanda's: very thick, coarse, 2b to 3b in pattern, and bleached!
Hey Mell, thanks for this video, I’ve been wondering for a while and trying to figure out which one is better for me and gives me more volume. In other topics, when can we expect the video about hair texture?
I think it depends so much on the individual's hair starting out and your porosity haha. My hair always turns out much better if I remove excess water and damp style, versus applying products on soaking wet hair. Weirdly, I get better definition and more even definition with damp styling. If I style on soaking wet hair, then the back of my head where my curl pattern is a very loose wave, it just ends up being nearly straight. So I need less water in the back and more in the front sometimes because sometimes by the time I reach the front of my head the hair needs some more water. I love the Bounce Curl Clumping Cream, it smells SO pretty! It definitely is a bit too moisturizing for me so I have to either use a very small amount or have some kind of protein in my wash routine
3b/c high density and about level 2 porosity here! Soaking wet and small section finger coiling for definition. Damp hair and bigger section finger coiling for body and fluff!
I work best with damp styling. As I am a low density, fine curly haired girl, I don’t like it when my curls clump like crazy; AND, I get tighter curls when I damp style rather than when I wet style, as there’s not so much water in my strands my curls are not so weighted down and the definition out of that is real nice! :3
Im so happy you did this review! It's been coming up on my newsfeed but I hadn't caved yet. I find my styling comes out best with damp hair, I have low porosity and 2B,2C curls. Unrelated, I was blowing videos for different curly hair vids and came across one with the Denman brush. She washed, styled, diffused and when she was done, she had frizz!!! I legit heard your voice in my head say "Never trust a curly girl's advice that has frizz"! LOL
I am not sure what my curl pattern is I think it is 2c-3a but I am just starting my curly journey. I find that I have a lot more success with damp styling a small amount of leave in and mouse. Wet styling and gel makes my hair very frizzy and my curls get weighed down.
I absolutely love your hair, Mel, and I've learned so much from you. ❤ I almost always style dripping wet although my hair always falls flat, even when I diffuse upside down. My hair is very sleek, so it must be the products I'm using. If I style damp, then my hair always comes out frizzy and stringy. 😝
I’m 3a over here and i prefer wet styling because i have very fine and dense hair so my hair dries up pretty quick and it gets pretty frizzy with damp styling. My curls just work their magic with wet styling. I plop and then i diffuse getting the most volume and definition
My hair is pretty fine and thin in density but it is long. I have had the best experience styling my hair while it's soaking wet. After I finish showering I flip my hair upside down, wet it, then rake through my products and scrunch. Plop for 15-20 minutes and then air dry. Sometimes I diffuse but mostly I'm really lazy. I tried damp styling today following your other video about dos and dont's. I've tried damp styling so many times in the past and it gives me the same result every time. SO MUCH FRIZZ. I seriously don't know what I'm doing wrong because I see all these youtubers with similar hair to mine and they get great results with damp styling. I want the volume that comes with damp styling so badly but my curl definition is heavily compromised if I damp style. It makes my 3b curls look like they're 2c.
Just found your videos a couple days ago and decided to give this curly thing another whirl (LOVE your videos)! I HATE wet styling, but up until I saw your videos that's all I had ever seen demonstrated. I tried doing more of a damp styling today and applying products the way you do and while the waves around my roots are the best they've ever looked, the body and ends are meh. I still need to figure out products though, so hopefully in time it will all get better. I'm just so overwhelmed with what all I need to buy/try and it's all so expensive 😩
Okay can I just say I LOVE your channel! I watched a few of your videos, did some research, bought new products last night and washed my hair. Styled & did the steps you usually do and this is the first time in 18 years I’ve loved my hair! I wanted to touch it all day 😂 I mean it was soft, barely any frizz, and it formed actual ringlets. Ugh thank youuuu 💕 also hope you’re doing better ❤️
What I have found is that I am not able to damp style my hair. I tried, but my curls disappeared and my hair dried too quickly. It also took forever to do, and it really just did not work. But I feel like wet styling does not work very well either. I can not seem to get clumps, I always have frizz (even when my hair is wet), and I never get my hair to curl up to the root. I have been trying for years, but give up after a week or two because it never seems to work and is very expensive, but then I pick it up again and try to get the curls at a later time. It is like a difficult cycle. I also have no support, there are no curly hair “experts” around here that I can talk to. Watching these videos are great and all, but I can not actually talk to you and get help. Your hair always looks so perfect. If anyone has any tips or advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
When I wet style, i tend to use more product but I get better definition, lift, and less frizz. I clip my roots and do mostly air drying and pineapple before bed. Depending on how close I am to bedtime, I hit it with some diffusing to get the cast before pineappling. I don't diffuse a lot because I get more frizz, so I tend to air dry completely, mostly overnight while i sleep. I get more frizz with damp styling.
I just want to thank you for this video!!! My wet styling never looked better between this video and the video you posted about finger coiling vs Denman Brush Styling!!!
I generally style on soaking wet hair. Damp styling always gives me more frizz and less definition. Styling on wet hair makes my hair more moisturized and my curls last way longer. Though I generally try to squeeze out a lot of water with the gel. I at least put in any creams and such on soaking wet hair and will put gel on damper hair (not towel dried but if it takes a while to style my hair I don’t re-wet before I put in my gel).
I wish I had your curlssss!!!!!! I have waves, but I still embrace them confidently and flawlessly (thanks to you and your seester!) LOVE YOU GUYS!!😍 y'all keep it real and that is greatly appreciated!
I do damp styling because I live in Spain and my hot water heater is tiny. TINY!!!!!!!!!!! I have just enough time to wash, condition, wash my bod and rise it all off before the water is going cold. I have even been forced to resort to waxing because I just do not have time to shave in the shower anymore. Might get laser hair removal now cause its such a hassle to deal with body hair when your a curly girl and you have to spend so much of your life dealing with hair already.
I have been binge watching your videos and learning so much! I would love to see a video about wavy hair and how styling/products/care might differ from curly hair
I usually comb and (gently) squish my wet hair right before coming out of the shower since the combo helps get rid of some extra water. Then, I immediately apply my styling products and plop for 15 mins or so. So my hair somewhere between soaking wet and damp when I style it. I have 3a-b hair.
I usually wet style and wet plop followed with micro plopping with a t shirt just before I diffuse, that way I don't lose to much product and still get definition. My hair is still transitioning but for now that seems to work
Mel!! What are your thoughts on Deva Curl? I saw a video saying they were damaging curls :( I use Deva Curl and now I am worried. Also, what are your thoughts on Innersense?
soaking wet works best for me, my curls are more defined and there are bigger clumps - which I like :) with damp hair I get way more frizz 😖
Same

Same!
@Miss Madeline bc of the frizz I think
Should you still use a cotton or microfiber towel?
I laughed out loud when you said you had to wash your back. I do the same thing, otherwise I break out! Blows my mind how that is never brought up in curly hair routine videos.
I also use my face toner on the back of my neck/top of my back to prevent it! You are right I haven’t heard many CG TH-camrs mention it.
I have never heard anyone mention that and it's like a lightbulb went off on my mind.
You should address the devacurl controversy !!! Honestly you’re one most trusted curl gurus on TH-cam !!
agreed Mel, I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Pleaseeee!!!

I prefer damp styling because my curls have more volume and length. Even though wet styling gives me rlly nice definition...I definitely prefer volume and length over that!:))

My curls have been completely defined from roots to ends and get many compliments on how they look. Very soft, bouncy and makes it look fuller. I have alopecia on the top of my head but since using all of these techniques you can't even tell it's thinning! Very full! Thank you!!
How do you make your curls last for so many days? By day 1, at the end of the day my hair looks like day 4 hair

In another video, she says you get long-lasting curls by putting a lot of effort during your wash day
@Simone Bralts she details it better in her wash day and applying products video (they are separate).
Samee but I keep scrunching throughout the day.
Yeah same my hair is almost half dry just afer I come out of my bathroom 😐
I really do prefer damp styling. I'm a wavy, and I find it really helps me to style in front of a mirror to address trouble spots and conquer frizz.
Damn, Girl! I'm convinced you just have natural volume. 😞 I've done wet AND damp styling...nothing. Flat as a pancake. Correction: pancakes are fluffy. 🤦🏻♀️
Try the aveda volumizing tonic.
Try styling and diffusing upside down and use less product, especially at the roots
You're not going crazy. My roots are naturally flat. She does have natural volume at her roots. I finally just cut my hair and put in layers so I could get max volume.(Didn't need to really cut the length to get volume i just like my hair short lol) I would try styling upside down it definitely helped me.
Mel does have alot of hair!
Thank you to everyone's recommendations! 😁😁
Allyson Sixx same problem for me
Yeah the idea of plopping scares me😂
My hair is exactly like that
I went blonde also and have fine thin curly 2c 3a type hair...I absolutely love A&G hair recoil and the mousse gel..defines..tames frizz for days and give volume.
I find that I like mixing up products - so would love to see you do a washday with your favorite single product from a line...
Like a shampoo from one, conditioner from another, leave in from a third and so on - as long as it’s your favorite product ;)
Just to see how the different lines work together :)
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for sharing that beautiful story, true music to my ears❤️xoxo
Manes by Mell
Hey Mell!
I've been seeing a lot of things about Devacurl and I want to know what u think because honestly I feel like you're the only one I can trust
Your videos are hands down the most informative and helpful on the internet! Thanks for taking the time to share you knowledge with us! Xo
I use a t shirt but same amount of time in it. I find my hair is softer and retains more moisture, well...for the first day or so
I am literally the exact same.
@@harshidhingra345 sorry no, I complete my shower then I put it in a tower right after. 😁
I've always wet styled becausenI thought that was what I was supposed to do. I will try out damp styling next time.
I definitely would love to see more reviews using the BounceCurl products!!
I loved how you addressed the backne, haha! So true and relatable. I’ve never heard anyone else mention that in styling videos before but you.
Much love! Xoxo
Your videos saved my hair and made me stop straightening my hair and appreciate my curls!! Thank you!! 😊💖
Wet styling using the bowl method has changed my life along with daily refreshes. In love with my curls now ❤
Needed this video right now!! Perfect timing 🙌🏽
My hair is wavy (2c-3a), I prefer damp styling because my hair looks more curly, I think maybe the weight is the reason. What do you think?
That makes sense. All the water drags down the curl.
my hair texture is similar but i actually prefer wet styling because my curls are always more defined and clumpy which i prefer. BUT i still have a lot of volume because i diffuse so yea lol. for some reason every time i style damp i hate the results lol
Same. If I style wet aka BM (before Mell) I thought I had to style my hair soaking wet.. but then would wonder... "why does it look weighed down?"
Martha Rincon how long after you leave the shower do you wait before styling?
Question: do you use supplements or products focusing and stating "hair growth?" If so, what and do they work? 🤔
Mell: "I'm actually quite DAMP..."
*smiling grimace"
One of the many reasons I love you 😄
Love your videos! I only do wet styling...soaking wet, styling, Plop, then I jump back in the shower, I’ve thought about damp styling. Thank you so much for this video😘
Leave in and curl cream go in soaking wet, then I dry my hair a little with a T-shirt and put in gel then mousse
Really? Gel then mousse? Have I been doing wrong order all this time?
@@tgif1207 In winter, mousse last works better because my gel has glycerin but my mousse doesn't. The definition is really nice too.
I have 2c-3a hair and my absolute fav is wet styling with the same bounce curl products right in the shower. I do scrunch out the excess water with a T-shirt after styling. Best results I’ve ever had! Con- I have to use a lot of product Pro- amazing definition for me
Mell it’s like you read my mind!!! I’ve been debating the whole wet vs damp question. Thank you for the video.
YES! Super helpful for me. I've always had problems with over-clumping and I always wet-style. Going to change things around this time.
I've also noticed that I get better curls.
would love to see this on wavy hair. My hair damp just turns into a mess and goes in a bun.
Help. 😘😘
Wet styling my curls are generally bigger and more clumped but with more “damp” styling my curls are more separated and a lil frizzier
Day 4 hair looks AMAZING!
I love all your videos. You are inspiring me to finally embrace my curls! ❤️ I look forward to every #texturetuesday videos.
I'm really enjoying these comparison videos! Please keep doing them as ideas come to you I've learned so much from you❤
I work best with damp styling.
BACNE! Ever since I started really focusing on my hair and styling with curl creams, the denman brush, deep conditioners, etc my back has been a MESS!
Jessica Kainu hi!
Side note! Love that fashion nova swim suit! It’s my fave and looks good on our skin tone 😍
